Getting started 11 Installing the SIM card When you subscribe to a cellul ar network, you are prov ided with a plug-in SIM card load ed with your subscription details, such as your PIN , any optional service s av ailable, and many other de tails. • K eep all miniature SIM cards out of the reach of small children.
Getting started 12 Inserting the SIM card 1. R emove the battery cover . 2. Insert and slide the SIM ca rd under the two tabs, as shown, ensuring that the gold coloured contacts of the card are face down into the phone. Continue to i nstall the battery .
Getting started 13 Installing the battery Y our phone is powered by a re chargeable Li- ion batter y . Use only approved batteries and chargers. Installing the battery 1. R emove the battery cover . 2. Insert the battery into the battery compartm ent, with the gold-culoured contact to ward the top of the phone.
Getting started 14 Removing the battery 1. If necessary , switch off the phone by pressing and holding until the power-off image displays. 2. R emove the battery cover . 3. Lift the battery aw ay from the phone. Charging your phone 1. Plug the connector of the tra v el charger into the jack on the right side of the phone.
Getting started 15 4. R emove the tr avel charger from the phone by pressing the buttons on both sides of the connector and pulling the connector out. Note : Do not remove batteries while charging. It ma y cause malfunctions and may damage the device.

Using the Home screen When you turn on your phone, the Home screen, the phone’ s idle screen, appears. Y ou can also access this screen by pressing from any progr am.
The basic s 17 Status bar On the top line of the screen, the Status bar displays icons to show your phone’ s current status. The basic s 32 Menu shortcut settings The number keys can be used as shortcut keys to directly access specific programs that exist in the Start menu. Note : Y o u can also assign phone numbers, e-mail addresse s, or web pages in Contacts to the number keys as speed dial entries.

Locking the keys Y ou can lock the keys on the phone to keep an y accidental key presses from causing a progr am’ s launch or phone switch on or off .

3 42 Synchronisation Using Microsoft ® ActiveSync ® , you can synchronise data on your desktop computer with the data on y our phone. Synchronisation comp ares the data on your phone with your desktop computer and upda tes both your phone and computer with the latest data.

Synchronisation 44 Customising co nnection settings T o establish a connection betw een your computer and the phone, you must enable the co nnection(s) you w ant to use in the ActiveSy nc program . By default, all connections are enabled. 1. From the ActiveS ync window on your computer , select File → Connection Set tings.

Connecting with a PC data cable Connect one end of the PC data cable to the charge r/PC data cable jack on the right of the phone and the other end to the USB port on your com puter .

Configuring an Exchange Server connection 1. In ActiveSync on y o ur phone, press the Menu soft key and select Add Server Source .

4 50 Call functions This chapter explains all of the call- functions provided by your p hone . Turning the phone functions on and off Y ou can choose to turn off the phone functions and just use the PDA functions at any time and then turn it back on when you want.
Call functions 51 Using the Dialling screen When you start entering a num ber or press , the Dialling screen opens. Y ou can view the most recent calls you have dialled, received, and missed on the screen.
Call functions 52 Making a call from Contacts 1. On the Home screen, press the Contacts soft key . Y ou can also press the Start soft key and select Contacts . 2. Select a contact card from the contact list. 3. Scroll to the number you want and press .

Call functions 54 Making an emergency call Y our phone provides the emergency number 112 . This number can normally be used to make an emergency call in any country , with or without a SIM card inserted, if you are within a mobile phone network’ s service area.
Call functions 55 Options during a call Y our phone provides a number of control functions that y ou can use while a call is in progress. Putting a call on hold If a person is trying to ca ll you when y ou are talking on the phone, a notification wi ndow will pop out.

The lo cation 0 and 1 on the Speed Dial list is preset for the internatio nal call prefix + and the voicemail centre number , respectively .

Select the option you w ant. • Last Call Cost : shows the cost of the last call you made. • Total Cost : shows the total cost of all calls made since the cost counter was last reset. If the total cost exceeds the maximum cost set in the Set Max Cost option, you can no longer make any calls until y o u reset the counter .

Messaging, Inte rnet, and Messenger 72 Synchronising E-mail messages Use the Outlook EMail account to send and receive e-mail messages by synchronising e-mail m essages with Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Outlook on your PC. E-mail messages can be synchronised as part of the general synchronisation process.

The next time you connect, the mail server will see that the messages are missing from the phone Inbox and delete them.
