You r ph one 11 Key (s) Desc ript ion (so ft ke ys) Perfo rms the functions indicated by the screen text ab ove th em, on th e bottom line of the display . In Idle mode , quickl y ente rs the following menus respective ly: • Up: your favourite menu opti on.
Your p hone 12 Ends a call. Also switches the phone on and off w hen held do wn. In Menu mode, cancels your input and returns the p hone to Idle m ode . In Idle mode, accesses your v oice mail when held down. Enters numb ers, letters, and so me special characters.
You r ph one 13 Displ ay Display layout The display has 3 area s: Area Description First line Displays v arious icons. See page 14. Middle Displays messages, instructions, and any information that you enter , such as the n umb er you are dialling . Last line Shows the current functions assigned to the two soft key s.
Your p hone 14 Icons Icon Desc riptio n Shows the rece ived signal strength. The greater the numb er of bars, the strong er the sig nal. Appears when a call is in progress. Appears wh en you are out of your serv ice area. When it displ ays, you cannot make or receive a call.
You r ph one 15 Back li gh t The backlight illuminates the display and the keyp ad. Wh en yo u press any k ey o r open the phone, the backlight come s on. It goes off when no keys are presse d within a given period of time, depen ding on the se tting in the Back light menu ( Menu 9.
Your p hone 16 External di splay Y o ur phone has an external display on the front of your phone. It indicates when y ou have an incoming call or a message. It also alerts you at a specified time when yo u have set an alarm. The backlight turns on and the corresponding ico n appears on the external display .
You r ph one 17 Camera The camer a module on the fro nt of your phone allows you to take a pho to and record a video while on the move. Fo r further details about the Cam era feature, se e page 139.
18 Getting started Installing the SIM card When y ou subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a pl ug-in SIM card l oaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, any optional services av ailable, and so on.
Getting started 19 3. Slide the SIM card into the SIM card socket, as shown, so that the card locks into position. Make sure the m etal contacts of the card face into the ph one. Note : When y ou need to remo ve the S IM car d, slide it upwards, as shown, and take it out of the socket.
Getting starte d 20 5. Press the battery down until it clicks into place. Make su re that the ba ttery is properly installed before switching the power on. Getting started 21 2. Plug the ada pter into a standard AC w all outlet. 3. When charging is f inished, unplug the adapter from the pow er outlet and disconnect it from the phone by pressing the buttons on both sides of the connector and pulling the connector out.

23 Call funct ions Making a call When the i dle screen displa ys, enter the area code and ph one num ber , the n pre ss t he key . Note : When you act ivate the Auto redial option in the Extra settings menu ( Menu 9.7 ), the pho ne will a utomati cally red ial up to 1 0 times when the person does not answ er the call or is already on t he phone.
Call functions 24 Ending a call When y ou want to end yo ur cal l, briefly press the key or clos e th e pho ne. Redi al lin g t he l ast n umber The phone stores the numb ers of the calls you’ve dialled, received, or m i ssed, if the call recipient or caller is identified.
Call functions 25 Making a call from Phon e book Y ou can store phone numbers t hat you use regularly in the SIM card or in the phon e’ s mem o ry , wh ich a re co llect ive ly call ed P hone boo k.
Call functions 26 Answering a c all When som ebody calls you, the phone rings and displays the incoming call image. The caller’s phone num ber or name, if stored in Phonebook , di splays . 1. If necessary , open the phone. Pr ess the key or the Accept soft key to answer the incom ing call.
Call functions 27 Viewing mi ssed calls When y o u are unable to an swer a call for any reason, you can find out who called you so that you can call the person back. The number of calls you’ve missed displays on the idle screen immediately after a call is missed.

30 Sele cting fu nction s and options Y our phone offers a set of functions that allow you to customise it. These functions are arr anged in menus and sub - menus, accessed using the tw o soft keys, and . Each menu and sub-menu allows you to v i ew an d alter the setting s of a particular function.
Selecting functions and op tion s 31 In each main menu, on e o f the most popular sub- menus is assigned to the left soft ke y — for example, if you select the Sound settings menu, Ringtone is assigned to the left soft key . This allows you to quickly access the most popular menus.
Selecting functions and option s 32 In some functions, you ma y be asked for a password or PIN. Enter the code and press the OK so ft ke y or th e ke y . Note : When you access a li st of op tions, your phone highl ights t he currentl y act ive op tion.
33 Phoneboo k Y ou can store phone numbers and their corresponding nam e s in both your SIM card and your ph one’ s memory . They are physically sep arate but are used as a single entity , called Phoneb ook. Note : Depending on your particular SIM card, the maximum number of phone number s the SIM car d can store may di ffer .

Using Phonebook entry options While acces sing any Ph onebook entry , press the Options soft k ey or the ke y to access the options fo r th e ent ry .
Phonebook 37 Copy : allows you t o copy the number to anot her location. Y ou can select the memory location, either SIM or Phone, and the location number . Paste : allow s you to paste the number into the normal dialling mode. Use this option to dial a number similar to one in Phonebook , such as a different extension in the same office.
Phonebook 38 Dialling a number from Phonebook Once you have stored phone numbers in Pho neboo k, you can dial the m easily and quic kly by using the location numbers that were assigned to them in P honebook. Note : If you cannot remember a location number , you must g o into the Search option to search for the ent ry by name.
Phonebook 39 Speed dialling Y ou can assign up t o 8 phone numbers fr om Phonebook that yo u use most frequently to the number keys ( 2 to 9 ), and then dial them easily whenever you w ant , simply by pressing and hold ing the associated number k e y .
Phonebook 40 • Change : allows you to assign a different numb er to the k ey . • Delet e : allows yo u to clear the setting s o that no number is assigned to the key . • Delete all : allows you to clear the settings for all keys so that no numbers are assigned to any of the keys .

46 Entering text When using yo ur phone, you will often need to enter text, such as when storing a name in Phonebook , cr eati ng your pers onal gr eeti ng or scheduling events on y our cal endar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’ s keypad .
Entering text 47 Changing the text input mode When you are in a fi eld that allows characters to be entered , you will notice the tex t i nput mod e indicator on th e di splay . Example : W riting a text message Note : Addit ional text i nput mode may be availabl e, depending on your country .
Entering text 48 Using T9 mode T9 is a pred icti ve tex t input mo de that al lows yo u to key in any char act er using single keystrokes. This text inp ut mode is base d on a buil t-in dic tion ary . T o enter a word in T9 mode: 1. When you are in T9 mode, start ent ering a word by pressing the k eys 2 to 9 .

After press i ng the key s corresponding to the word you w ant to add, press the 0 key or the Down key t o di splay t he al ter nati ve words . 2. Wh en you pres s t he 0 key or the D own key at the last alternative word, the display show s Add on the bo ttom line.
Entering text 50 Using Alphabet mode Use the 1 to 0 keys t o ent er you r t ext. 1. Press the ke ys labelled with the letter y ou want: - Once for the first letter - T wice for the second letter - And so on 2. Select the o ther l etters in the sam e wa y .
Entering text 51 • T o insert a space, press the key . • T o shift case in Alpha b et mod e, use the ke y . There are three cases; Capital lock ( ), Lower case ( ), and I nitial capital ( ). • Y ou can move the cursor by using the Left and Right k eys.
52 Options during a cal l Y our phone provid es a number of contro l functi ons that you can use during a call . Putting a call on hold Y ou can place the current call on hold whenever you want. Y ou can make another call while you have a call in progress if your network supports this service.
Options du ring a call 53 When yo u have an active call and a call on hold, you may s wi tch betw een the t wo calls, changing the one on hold to active and placing the other on hol d. T o switch betw een the two calls, simply press the Swap soft key .
Options du ring a call 54 Switching the microphone off (Mute) Y ou can temp orarily switch your phone’ s microphone off so that the other person o n the phone cannot hear you. Example : Y ou wish to say something to a person in the roo m, but do not w ant the person on the pho ne to hear you.
Options du ring a call 55 Muting or sending key tones These o ptions allow y o u to turn the key tones off or on. If t he Mut e keys opti on i s sel ecte d, your phone does no t transm i t the D TMF ( Dual T one Multi- Frequency) tones of t he keys, which allows you t o press keys wi thout hear in g annoyi ng key tones duri ng a call .

Options du ring a call 57 Call waiting Y ou can answer an incoming call while you have a call in progress, if your network supports this service and you have set the Call waiting menu ( Menu 3.3 ) to Activate ; see pa ge 78. Y ou are notified of an incoming call by a cal l waiting tone.

60 Using t he menus The phone offe rs a range of f unctions that al low you to tailor it to your needs. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus. The menus and sub-menus can be accessed by scrol l ing u sing the N aviga ti on keys or by usi ng th e shortcuts.
Using the m enus 61 Using shortcuts The menu items, such as menus, sub-menus and options, are numbered and can be accessed q uickly by using their shortcut numbers. For the main menus, you c an acce ss any o ne of them b y pressing the number k eys ( 1 to 9 ) corresponding to their location on the screen.

69 Call rec ords In this menu, you can view t he: • calls you have missed , received, or dialled. • length of your calls. • cost of your ca lls, if the SIM card supports it. Notes : • Y ou can acces s the numbers in the 3 types of call record s by pr essing th e key in I dle mode .
Call records 70 Receive d calls (Men u 2.2) This menu lets you view the 20 most rece nt cal ls you have received. The number or name, if available, displays together with the time and date the call was rece ived. T o dia l t he number , pr ess the key .
Call records 71 Delete a ll (Menu 2. 4) This menu allows you to delete all of the records in each call record. Y ou can also delete all of your call records at one time . 2. Press the Delet e soft key to delete the mark ed records. 3. When a confirmation messag e displays, press the Yes soft key or the key to confirm.
Call records 72 Call time (Men u 2.5) This menu lets you view the timers for calls you mad e a nd r ec e iv ed . Note : The actual time invoiced for calls by your servi ce provid er may vary , depe ndi ng on network features, rou nding-off for billing purp oses and so on.
Call records 73 Call costs (Men u 2. 6) This network feature lets you view the cost o f calls. This menu may not be av ai lable depending on your SIM car d. The fo ll owing op tions ar e avail able: Last call cost : shows the cost of the last call you mad e.
74 Network service s These menu functions are network services. Please contact your service p rovider to check their availability and subscribe to them , if you wish. Call diverting (Men u 3.1) This network service enables incom ing calls to be rerouted to a num b er that you specify .

83 Sound setting s Y ou can use the Sound Sett ings feature to customise v arious settings, such as the: • ring melody , volume , and type. • sounds made when yo u press a key , receive a message, o pen/close the phone or sw itch your phone on or off.
Sound set ting s 84 Alert type (Menu 4. 3) This menu allows you to specify how you are to be informed of inco ming calls. The fo ll owing op tions ar e avail able: Light only : the service light flashe s; the phone neither rings nor vibrates. Melody : the phone rings using the selected ring tone.
Sound set ting s 85 Message tone (Menu 4. 5) This menu allows you to select how the phone informs you that a new me ssage has been received. SMS to ne (Menu 4. 5.1) The following options are available for alerting you to new SMS messag es: Off : the phon e does n ot use an SMS tone.
Sound set ting s 86 MMS to ne (Menu 4. 5.3) The following options are available for alerting you to new MMS me ssag es: Off : the phon e does n ot use an MMS ton e. Light only : the service light flashes. Vibrat ion : the pho ne vibrates. Single beep : the phone be eps once.
Sound set ting s 87 Power on/off (Menu 4.7) This menu allows you to select the melody that the phone sounds when it is switched on or off . T o turn off the sound, select Off .

Messages 90 Creating a simple text mess age 1. Create your me ssage. Y ou can create a message using standard Alphabet characters or spe cial Uni-code chara cters, dep ending on the s etting in the Charact er suppor t menu; see page 97. Messages 92 • Add content : allows you to add a sound, melody , picture, or animated image to the message. Selec t the category of the object to be added. In each category , you can select from the vario us f actory -set items or items received from other s ources, such as the Internet or o ther phones.
Messages 93 Inbox (Menu 5.1.2) This message box is used to store messages that you have received. When y ou enter this menu, the list of messages in the box displays w ith the send ers’ phon e numb ers or names, if available in yo ur Phonebo o k. 1.
Messages 94 Move to SIM : allow s you to m ove the message from the phone’ s memory to the SIM card. This option is only available when yo u select a message stored in the phone’ s memory . Select content : allows you to sav e media objects, such as sounds or images, from the m essage into your phone.

Messages 96 Settings (Men u 5.1. 5 ) In this menu, you can set up default message information. A setting group is a collection of settings required to send messages. The num ber of setting grou ps av ailable depe nds on the capaci ty of your SIM card .
Messages 97 Common setting : The following options are available: Re pl y p a t h : allows the recipient o f your me ssage to send you a reply through your message centre, if your network supports this service. Delivery report s : allows you to ac tivate or deactiv ate the report fu nction.
Messages 98 Multimed ia mess ages (Men u 5. 2) Mu ltim edia Mess age Se rvic e (MM S) is a ser vice providing delive ry of personal multimed ia messages from phon e to phone or from phone to e-mail. In addition to the familiar text co ntent, multime dia messages can contain images, p hotos, audio clips, and combinations of these things.
