You r phon e 13 Used for v arious purposes in different functions. When pressed and held while entering a phone nu mber , th e key en ters a pause . When p ressed and held in idle mode, the key ente rs or exits quiet mode. (on the left side of the phone) During a call, adjusts the earpiece volume.

You r phon e 15 Icons Icon Des cription Shows the receiv ed signal strength. The more ba rs, th e stronger the signal. Appears when a call is in progress. When your SIM card s upports ALS (A lternat e Line Service), this icon may appear with the numb er 1, 2, or both .
Your p hone 16 Back li ght on mo de The displays and the keypad are illuminated by a backlight. When y ou press any key or open the Appears when y ou set the alarm(s) to ring at a specified tim e. Appea rs when t he Call diverti ng feat ure is activated.
You r phon e 17 folder , the ba cklig ht illuminates. It turns off if no key is pres sed wit hin a gi ven peri od of time, dependi ng on the Backlight option settings. Your p hone 18 Service light The service light is on the folder . It flashes when services are av ailable on the phone. T o activate o r deactivate the service light, set the Service light menu ( Menu 9.1.6 ). See page 155. Camera The cam era embe dded in you r phone allows yo u to take a picture of people or ev ents while on the move .
You r phon e 19 Built-in antenna Y our p hone has a built-in antenna. As w i th other mob i le r adio transm itting equipm ent, do no t touc h the antenna unnecessarily when t he phone is switched on. Contact with the antenna affects call quality and may cause the p hone to operate at a hig her pow er le vel th an need ed.
20 Getting started Inserting/Remo v ing the S IM card When y ou subscribe to a cell ular netw ork, you are provided w i th a SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, any optional services av ailable, and so on. • K eep all SIM cards out of the reach of small children.

Getting starte d 24 3. When charging is finished and the ‘Fully charged’ message is display ed, disconnect the adapter from the power outlet and from the phone by press ing the gr ey tabs on both si des of the connector and pulling the connector out.
Getting started 25 Switching the phone on or off T o switch the phone on: 1. Hol d down the key unt il t he phon e switches on. 2. If the phon e asks for a PIN, en ter the PIN and press the OK soft key . For further details, see page 167 . The phon e searches your ne twork and the current date and time appear o n the display .
Getting starte d 26 Selecting functions and options Y our phone offers a set o f functions that allows you to customise y our phone. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-m enus, accessed via the two soft keys m arked and Each menu and sub-menu allows you to view and alter the settings of a particular function.

Viewing missed calls If you have a subscription that includes Caller Line Identification (CLI) and you are unable to answer a call, you can find out who was calling you so that you can call the person back.
Call functions 31 Speed-dialling from Phon ebook Once you have stored numbers in the Phone book, you can dial a number simply by pr essing one or two keys. F or further det ails, see page 61. Ending a call When y ou want to finish your call, briefl y press the key or close the folder .
Call functions 32 Adjusting the volume During a call, if you wish to adjust the earpiece volume, use t he volu me keys on t he l eft si de of the phon e. When you hear a sound, such as a ri ngtone, you can also adjust the earpiece volume . However , the volume ad justment will not be permanent.
Call functions 33 Accessing options during a call Y our p hone provides a number of contro l functions that you can use during a call . Using the loudspeaker Y ou can speak and listen to the phone from a short distance w ithout holding the phone to yo ur ear .
Call functions 34 Note : Y o u cannot activate V oiceclari ty when y ou use the louds peaker or the ha ndsfree car kit. Putting a call on hold Y ou can place a call on hold whenever you want. Y ou can m ake another call while you have a call in progress if this service is supported by yo ur network .
Call functions 35 2. When Unmute highlights, press the Select soft key . The Mute icon disappears and your correspondent can once again hear you. 42 Entering text There are many situations in which you need to enter text, such as when storing a name in Phonebook , writin g a message, creati ng your pers onal gr eeti ng, or s chedul ing even ts on your calendar .
Entering text 43 Changing the text input mode When y ou are in a field that allows characters to be entered , you will see the text input mo de indicator at the bott om of the display . Example : Enteri ng a name in the Phonebook T o change to another text input mode: 1.
Entering text 44 Quickly chan ging the text input mode Using ABC mode When inputting wo rds in ABC mode, press the ke y labelled with the required letter: - Once for the first letter - T wice for the second letter - And so on Example : T o display the letter “C” , quick ly press the 2 key th ree times.

Accessing a menu function The menus and sub-menus can be accessed by pressing the Menu or Phoneb ook soft key in idle mode , then scrolling with the navigation k eys.

Phonebook menu 58 Editing phone memory en t ries While looki ng at a Phone book ent ry , sc roll t o the category that you w ant to edit by pressing the Left or Right key . The following categories are available and y ou can edit the information of each category by pre ssin g the Opti ons soft key .
Phonebook menu 59 Editing SIM mem ory entries T o change SIM m emory entry information, press the Options soft key . The fo llowing opti ons are avail able : Edit number This option allows you to change the number . Y ou can also add a new number if none has been stored for the selected entry .
Phonebook menu 60 Add entry (Pho nebook 1.2) Y ou can store phone numbers and the corresponding nam es i n the m emory of your SIM card. In addition, you can store up to 1000 names in the phone’s m emory , and each name can be associated with up to five numbers.

68 Call rec ords Via this menu, y ou can v iew the: • calls you missed, received , or diall ed. • cost of your calls. • length of your calls. Note : Y ou can access t he phone num bers that are in the three t ypes of call r ecords by pres sing the key i n idle mode.
Call records 69 By pressing the Opti ons soft key , you can also: • delete the current call reco rd from the list. • delete all o f the calls. • paste the n umber into Phonebook . Dialled calls (Menu 2. 3) This option lets you view the last 20 dialled numbers.
Call records 70 Call time (Menu 2 .5) This option lets you view the timers for calls made and receiv ed. Notes: • If your SIM card s upports ALS (Alter nate Line Service) , you must first se lect the appropri ate line.
Call records 71 The fo llowing opti ons are avail able : Last ca ll cost : cost of the last call made. Total cos t : total cost of all calls made since the cost counter was last reset. If the total cost ex ceeds th e max imu m co st set via th e Set max cost option, you can not make an y calls until you reset the counter .

Networ k ser vices 78 Network selection (Menu 3. 4) The Network selectio n feature enables you to manually select the network used when roaming outside yo ur home area or to let the phone automatically select the roaming netwo rk.

Note : Some networks do not allow the user t o change this se tting. The fo llowing opti ons are avail able : Defau lt : the defaul t setting provided b y the network is used.
80 Sound setting s Y ou can use the Sound settings feature to customise v arious settings, such as the: • ringtone, volume, and type for incom i ng calls or messages. • sounds made when yo ur cal l is connected or when you press a key . • quiet mode to which your phone switches to when you hold down the key in idle mode.
Sound set tings 81 Alert type : lets you specify how you are informed of incoming calls. Melo dy : the phone plays the melody selecte d via the Melody option. S ee abov e. Vibra tion : the phone vi brates , bu t does not ri ng. Vibra tion th en melody : the phone first vibrates and then plays the melody selecte d via the Melody opti on.
Sound set tings 82 Rep etitio n : allows y ou to specify how often the phone informs y ou of a new mes sage. Y ou can choose either Once or Perio dic . Power on/off (Menu 4. 3) This option allow s you to select the melo dy that the phone sound s when you s witch it on or off .
Sound set tings 83 Off : th e keys do not make any sound. Tone : each key , when pressed, makes a different sound. Beep : each key , when pressed, makes the same sound. Piano / Drum : each key , when pressed, mak es the sound of a pi ano or a drum, depending on which you choose.
Sound set tings 84 Alerts on call (Men u 4.8) This menu allows you to choose whether o r not the phone informs yo u w hen you receive a new message or when an alarm goes off during a call. The fo llowing opti ons are avail able : Off : the phon e doesn’t alert you to incoming messages or alarms.
85 Mess ages This menu allows you to create, send, re ad, and save me ssages with the Short Message Service (SMS: text mess ages), Enhanced Message Service (EMS: messages including simple images, anim.

Mess age s 89 Inbox (Menu 5.1.2) Y our phone receives incoming mess ages and saves them in the Inbox . SMS messages are usually sav ed on the SI M card, but if th e SI M me mor y i s fu ll , t he incoming messages will be saved in the phone’ s mem ory .
Messages 90 Cut address : extra cts phone num bers, email addresses, or URL addres ses i n the text, so that yo u can call the number or send a message to the number or s ave it in your Phonebook . Send : allows you to send the message to another pers on.
