Y our Phone 19 Display Layout The display is comprised of three areas . Area Description First line Displa ys various icons (see “Icons” on page 20 ). Middle line s Display messages , instructions and any inf ormatio n that y ou enter (number to be dialed, for example).
Y our Phone 20 Icons Icon Description Shows the received signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the better the signal strength. Appears when a call is in progress.
Y our Phone 21 Backlight The display is illuminated b y a backlight. When you press any k ey , the backlight illuminates. It turns off if no ke y is pressed within a given period of time, depending on th e Back Light men u option. T o specify the length of time f or which the backlight is active , set the Back Ligh t menu option ( Menu 6.
Y our Phone 22 Main Screen Display Y our phone has a main screen display . It indicates that y ou hav e an incoming call or a message, and notifies y ou at the specified time when you set an alarm. Ser vice Light The ser vice light is abo v e the e xternal display on the f older cov er .
Getting Star ted 23 Getting Started Installing the SIM Card When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a plug-in SIM card loaded with y our subscription details, such as your PIN, and an y optional ser vices a vailab le.

These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus , accessed via the two soft ke ys marked and . Each menu and sub-menu allows you to vie w and alter the settings of a par ticular function.

Phonebook 41 Phonebook Y ou can store phone numbers and their corresponding names in the memor y of y our SIM card. In addition, y ou can store up to 500 numbers in the phone memory . The SIM card and phone memories, although ph ysically separate , are used as if they w ere a single entity , called the Phonebook.

Entering T ext 51 Entering T ext When using your phone , you will often need to enter te xt. F or e xample, when storing a name in the phonebook, creating your personal gre eting or scheduling e v ents in your calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters b y using your phone’ s ke ypad.
Entering T ext 52 Using the T9 Mode The T9 predictive te xt input mode allows y ou to key in an y character using single k eystrok es. This te xt input mode is based on a built-in dictionary . 1. When you are in the T9 predictiv e te xt input mode, start entering a word by pressing k eys to .

Options During a Call 57 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of control functions that you can use during a call. Putting a Call on Hold Y ou can place the current call on hold at any time . Y ou can make another call while y ou have a call in prog ress if this ser vice is supported by the network.

Options During a Call 59 Muting/Sending DTMF These options allow y ou to turn the key tones off or on. If the Mute ke ys option is selected, y our phone does not transmit the k ey tones . It allows y ou to press keys without hearing any ke y tones dur ing a call.

T e xt Messages 73 T ext Messages The SMS (Shor t Message Ser vice) function is a network ser vice and ma y not be suppor ted by your netw ork. Messages can be sent by te xt, fax, Email and paging messaging systems, pro vided that these services are suppor ted by y our network.
T ext Messages 74 Delete : allows y ou to delete obsolete messages. Send : allows you to resend the message . Reply : (inbo x only): allows you to reply to the sender b y sending a te xt message. Y ou can also change the SMS center number , if required.
T e xt Messages 75 While Reading a message, y ou can choose the following options by pressing the Options soft ke y . Delete : allows y ou to delete messages. Send : allows you to resend the message . Save Address : allo ws you t o extr act a number from the message te xt, so that you can call the number or sa ve it in the phonebook.

Multimedia Messages 83 Multimedia Messages Multimedia Message Service (MMS) is a messaging ser vice v er y similar to Shor t Message Service (SMS). It provides automatic and immediate deliv er y of personal multimedia messages from phone to phone or from phone to e-mail.

Call Reco rds 91 Call Records In this menu, you can view the: ● Missed, incoming or outgoing calls ● length of the call you made or receiv ed ● cost of your calls Note: Y ou can access all numbers in t he three types of call records b y pressing the key in idle mode.
Call Records 92 Outgoing Calls This option lets you vie w the last 20 numbers dialed. The number and name, if a v ailable , are displa yed, together with the date and time at which the call w as made.
Camera 93 Camera Using the camera module b uilt in your phone , you can tak e pictures of people or e v ents while on the mov e. Additionally , you can send photos to other peo ple in a picture message or as an e-mail attachment. The camera produces JPEG pictures.

F ollow the procedures in “Creating and Sending a Picture Message” on page 86 to send the photo as a picture message. New Photo In this menu, you can take a picture and sa v e it.
Sound Settings 95 Sound Settings Y ou can use the Sound Settings f eature to customize various settings, such as the: ● Ring melody , v olume and type ● Sounds made when y ou press a k ey , mak e an error or receive a message Ring T one This option allows y ou to select the required r ing melody .
Sound Settings 96 Melody : the phone rings using the ring melody selected via the Vibration : the phone vibrates b ut does not ring. Vibra+Melody : the phone first vibrates three times and then star ts ringing. Keypad T one This option allows y ou to select the tone that the keypad generates when yo u press a ke y .
Sound Settings 97 Single Beep : the phone beeps once. SMS CB T o ne This option allows y ou to select how the phone informs you that a ne w cell broadcast (CB) message has been received. The f ollowin g options are av ailable. OFF : the phone does not use the CB tone.
Sound Settings 98 Extra T ones Y ou can customize v arious other tones used b y the phone. The f ollowin g options are av ailable. Error T one : sets whether the phone informs you that y ou hav e made a mistake or not.
Phone Settings 99 Phone Settings Many diff erent features of y our phone can be customized to suit your pref erences. All of these f eatures are accessed via the Phone Settings men u. Infrared Activate Infrared Activ ate provides use of y our phone as a modem or to synchronize to the EasyGPRS application.
Phone Settings 100 The connection is ready f or data transmission. If there is not communication between y our phone and the IrD A -compliant de v ice within 30 seconds of activ ating the f eature, it is automatically deactiv ated. Note: For the best perf or mance, use the optional data link cab le.
Phone Settings 101 1. Scroll through the list by pressing the or key . Y ou hav e v arious preset images av ailable . Y ou can also select the blank bac kground and any images downloaded from the Internet or the EasyGPRS program. 2. Press the Select soft k ey when the required image is highlighted.
Phone Settings 102 Greeting Message This option allows y ou to set a greeting message to be displa yed briefly when the phone is s witched on. The current message is displa yed. F or fur ther details on how to enter char acters, ref er to “Entering T e xt” on page 51 .
Phone Settings 103 Security The Security feature enab les you to restrict the use of your phone to: ● The people of your choice ● The types of calls of your choice V arious codes and pass words are used to protect the f eatures of your phone .
Phone Settings 104 Phone Lock When the Phone Lock f eature is enabled, the phone is lock ed and you must enter the 8-digit phone pass word each time the phone is switched on. The passw ord is factory set to “00000000”. T o change the phone pass word, ref er to the Chang e P assw ord menu option.
Phone Settings 105 Enable : y ou are required to enter the SIM Lock pass word when you s witch the phone on. FDN Mode The FDN (Fix ed Dial Number) mode, if supported by y our SIM card, allows y ou to restr ict y our outgoing calls to a limited set of phone numbers.
Phone Settings 106 Display Settings Brightness This option allows y ou to adjust the contrast of the d isplay and make it lighter or dark er . T o adjust the display contrast: 1. Select the required displa y , Main LCD or Front LCD , and press the Select soft ke y .
Phone Settings 107 Disable : the backlight is used according to the setting in the Bac k Light menu option. Enable : the bac klight is used only during the specified period of time. Set the time when the phone will tur n on the light and tur n it off , using the appropriate number ke ys.
Phone Settings 108 The f ollowin g options are av ailable. Au t o R e d i a l : when this option is check ed, the phone makes up to ten attempts to redial a phone n umber after an unsuccessful call. Note: The interval between two call attemp ts varies.
