Getting Started 5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section describes the first st eps to op erating your ph one. SIM Card Infor mation When you subscribe for 3G cellular network services, you receive a plug-in SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, and available optional services.

Insta lli ng and Remo ving t he SI M Car d Important!: The plug-in SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratches or bending. Use caution when inserting or removing the card, and keep all SIM cards out of reach of children.
Getting Started 7 Note: The angled corner of the SIM should be inserted as shown in the previous diagram. Improperly inserting the SIM can cause the phone to not recognize the SIM.
8 2. Press the bat ter y do wn until it clicks into pla ce. Make sure the battery is properl y instal led and not obstructing the SIM card before repl acin g the cover . 3. With the batt ery in position on the phone, plac e the cover back on the handset and pre ss down until the cover is flush with the back of the phone.
Getting Started 9 1. Open the s ide slot and pl ug the connect or of the t ravel adapt er jack into the jack on the side of the phone. Note: The previous illustration is the correct and incorrect method for connecting the charger .
10 The Idle screen di splays while the phone searches for your network. After the phone fi nds your network and displays adequate signal strength bars , you can make or receive calls. Note: The display language is preset to Automatic at the factor y .

16 Icons Shows the received signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Displays t he level o f your batte ry . The more bars you see, the more power you have remaining. Displays when the phone is a ccessing services in a GPRS network.

T hese funct ions are arran ged in menus and sub-menus, accessed usi ng the two soft keys . Each menu and sub-menu allows you to v i ew and alte r the settings of a particular function.

Call Functions 21 Section 3: Call Functions This section describes how to make or an swer a call. It also inc ludes the features and functional it y associa ted with maki ng or answering a c all. Making a Call When the Idle scre en displays, enter the area code and phone number , and press the key .
22 3. Continue to enter numbers if desired. Tip : Y o u can create pauses longer than two seconds by entering multiple P pauses. R edia lin g the Last Number T o display the la st number dialed: 1. In Idle mode, briefl y press the key to view the Recent Calls menu.

24 Viewing Misse d Calls The number of missed calls displays on the Idle screen. T o view the numb er de tails: 1. Press the Vi e w soft key . The most recent ly missed call displays. Note: If there is a voicemail sent by the same number , associa ted icons are displayed and can then be selected.

Call Functions 27 When you are e ngaged i n an active call and also ha ve a call on hold, you may switch between th e two calls. Swi tching calls automat ically pl aces th e second call on hold. T o switch between the two call s: 1. Press Options soft key .
28 When the second call activates, t hese options are a vailable. • Swap : Places the active call on hold and then re- activates the call on hold. • Join : Joins all of the e stablished calls (both activ e and on hold) into a multi-party ca ll. Press the key to end ea ch call.

Menu Navigation 31 Section 4: Menu Na viga tion This section explains the menu navi gation for your phone. It also includes an overview o f all the a vailable menus associa ted with your phone. Some menu options are controll ed by the SIM provided by your service prov ider .
32 4. Press the key for Languag e . 5. Highlight t he Screen T ext field and press the Change key to display the list of available languages. 6. Highlight a language and press the OK soft key . If you select Automatic , the language will default to what is preset in your SIM card.
Entering T ext 33 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines how to sele ct the desired te xt inpu t mode when entering characters into your phone. This section also describes how to use the T9 pred ictive text en try system to reduce the amount of key strokes associated with entering text.
34 If you prefer the T9 Input Method, press the Options soft key and sele ct Te x t M o d e . Choose you r preferred text input mode. 2. After you have se lected an in put method , keep pressing the k.
Entering T ext 35 If the word doesn’t d isplay correctly , press the key to display alternative word choices. Example: Both “Of” and “Me” use the and keys. The phone displays the most commonly used choice first. 5. Insert a space by pre ssing the key and start entering the next word.

Understanding Y our Addres s Book 37 Section 6: Understanding Y our Address Book This section allows you to manage your daily contacts by storing their name and number in your Address Book. Address Book entries can be sorted by name, entry , or group.

42 Y ou can assign up to 8 speed dial entries on the Speed Dial List and then dial them whenever yo u want by pressing and holding the assoc iated numeric k ey . T o call an assigned speed dial number , in Idle mode, press and hold key 2 through 9 to speed di al the number assigned to that key .

FDN Co ntac ts FDN (F ixed Dialing N umber) mode, if supported by your SIM card , restricts your outgoi ng calls to a limited set of phone numbers.

48 Section 7: Push to T alk (PTT) This section describes the Push to T alk (PTT) fea ture which allows you to contact your fami ly , friends, and co-workers (also using PTT) instantly . Initializing Push to T alk Ser vice 1. From the Idle screen, press the PTT key .

Select Add Contact then press the Select soft key or the key . 3. Enter the name and number of your new contact and press the OK soft key or the key .

Messaging 59 Section 8: Messaging This section describes how to send or receive diff erent types of messages. It also inc l udes the features and fu nctional ity associated with messaging.

Messaging 61 Creating and Sending Multimedia Messages The Multimedia Messaging Se rvice allows you to send and receive multim edia messa ges to and from other mobile phones. Y ou can send and receive messag es from email addresses as well. T o use this feature, you may need to subscribe to your serv ice provider’ s mul timedia messa ge servi ce.

Messaging 63 Inbo x The Inbox stores received messag es. Y ou can tell wha t kind of message was receiv ed by the icon displayed. If the icon envelope is open then the message was read, otherwise a closed envelope displays.
64 • Delete : allows you to delete the Sele cted message or Multiple messages. • Forward : allows you to forward the message. • Save to Address Book : allows you to save the recipient or sender’ s information from the message to your Address Book on either the Phone or SIM.
