Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to star t using your SCH-R630 phone by activating your service, setting up your Voicemail, or getting an understanding of how this manual is put together .

17 Input m ode Input mode dete rmines how you enter text, numb ers, and symbols. Optional input modes are abc , Abc , ABC , Fn (symbols), and Fn (symbols locked). Understanding Y our Phone 18 Speak er phone M ode During a call, you can use your pho ne handsfree or share th e call with other people nearby by pl acing your phone in Speakerphone Mode. • T o enable Speakerphone Mode: 1. Follow the prompt and unlock the screen.

Call Functions 20 Section 3: Call Functions This section provides procedur es for making and answering calls. This section al so describes features, such as call logs and call timers, that help you make calls and manage your call time.
21 Thr ee-w ay Calling Call two other numbers and conne ct them to your call us ing three-way calling. 1. In Standby mode, tap Dialer . The Dialer screen appears in the displa y . 2. Enter the number for the first party in your call, then press . 3. When connected, ask the other party to re main on the line.
Call Functions 22 2-T ouch Dialing Use 2-touch dialing to speed dial Contacts from 10 through 99. 1. In Standby mode, tap Dialer . The Dialer screen appears in the display . 2. T a p the number key representi ng the first digit of the desired Contact’ s sp eed dial number .
23 V oice C ommands The voice recogniti on capabilities of yo ur R630 are exceptional due to advanced, spe aker -independent te chnology . This means you do not need to “t rain” your phone to understand y our voice. Y ou can use your voice in a natural manner to dial numbers.
Call Functions 24 If the recognize d name has multi ple numbers stored for it (that is, Mobile 1, Mobile 2, Home, and so on), Voice Commands displays the possibl e choices and prompts you with “ Which location? ” 5.
25 • If the caller can be identified, the calle r’ s number (or name if it’ s in your Contacts) appears in the display . • If the caller cannot be identified, Call from unav ailable # , Call from restricted # , or no number appears in the display .
Call Functions 26 Call Waiting If you’re on a call, your phone beeps when another call is incoming. Contact your Wirele ss Carrier for availability . 1. Press to connect and ask th e calling party t o remain on the line. 2. Press and the second caller is placed on hold and you’re returned to th e original caller .

31 3. Ta p Done . Y ou are prom pted to confirm the reset of the timer(s) and/or counter(s ). 4. T o reset the timer(s) and/or counter(s), tap Ye s . Note: Although T otal call tim ers and data counters can be reset, Lifetime call timers and data counters can never be reset.
Understanding Y our Contacts 32 Section 4: Understanding Y our Contacts This section details how you can ma nage your daily contacts by storing their names and numbers in your Contacts list. Y ou can have your Contacts en tries sorted by name. Contac ts Up to 500 entries can be stored in Contacts .
33 Adding a New Contacts Entr y Y ou can use either of two methods to a dd an entirely new entr y to Contacts. Dial Meth od 1. From a Home screen, tap Dialer . 2. Enter the number you wish to add to your Co ntact List . 3. Ta p Save . The following options pop-up in the display: • Add New Contact — Lets you creat e a new Contact s entr y .

37 3. Ta p Options . The following pause options appear in the display: • Wai t — A hard pa use (wait s for input f rom you) . • 2-Sec P ause — A 2-second pa use after which dialing resumes. 4. Select the pause option of your choi ce to it into the number sequence.

39 Create a New Entr y 1. Select Add New Contact . The Add New Contact screen appears in the display showing the following number type options: 2. Select the number type that matches your new entry . 3. Enter a name for the new entr y . (For more information, refer to “Entering T ext” on page 16.
Understanding Y our Contacts 40 • T o speed dial the Contacts entry assigned to Location 235, tap , tap , then press and hold (3-touch dialing). Y ou can assign one or more Spee d Dial numbers to a Contacts entry during ne w entry crea tion or by edit ing an existing entry.
41 Contacts Groups Contact Groups le t you easily send messages to multiple, selected Contacts. Y ou can also use Groups to find Contact entries and to add/remove Cont acts names in a Group or to create or rename a Gro up.
Understanding Y our Contacts 42 Note: T o unmark a marked Contact, tap the Contact to clear the check mark. 4. When you have marked the Co ntacts you want to add to the group, tap Done . “ Contact added to ” appears briefly in the display , followed by the selected Gro up name.
43 5. T o confirm erasure of the highlighted Group, tap Ye s . T o retain the Group, tap No . Deleting a Contacts Entr y 1. In Standby Mode, tap Contacts ➔ . The Erase screen appears in the display . 2. Scroll to and ta p the Contact you want to erase.
Messaging 44 Section 5: Messaging This section explains ho w to send or receive different types of messages. This section also describes the features and function ality associa t ed with messaging. Note: Y ou can only enter message text using the QWERTY keypad.

Ta p Add ➔ From Cont acts / Recent Calls / Groups / Online Album and find and select a recipient for this message. – or – Ta p New# and enter a recipient number or e-mail address. 7. T a p and slide to scroll down to, and then tap, the Te x t field, then enter the message text using the keypad.
47 Send Picture Messages in Standby Mode Send Picture messages to recipien ts with a compatible phone or other device, and acco mpany the Picture me ssage with a voice memo, ring tone, or downloaded melod y . Tip: Y ou can send a Picture message to up to ten recipients.
Messaging 48 • Ta p Record New or tap the desir ed sound f ile to be inser ted into your me ssage. 8. T a p and slide to scroll do wn to, and then tap, the Subject field. Enter a subject for the Picture message using the keypad. (For more information, refer to “Enterin g T ext” on page 16.
49 3. Press to complete the me ssage and set message send options. The follow ing options appear in the display: • Play Agai n — Play the soun d file included in the picture messag e again. • Forward — Send a copy of this message to an other recipient .
Messaging 50 Ta p New# and enter a recipient number or e-mail address. 4. T o add a video clip to the message, tap the Vi de o field. The My Videos folder appears in t he display . 5. T a p the desired video, then tap ➔ Add . – or – Activate the phone ’ s camcorder and record a new vi deo clip, by tapping ➔ Record V ideo .
51 4. Using the display as a viewfinde r , when the imag e that you wish to send appears in the di splay , press the Camera key ( ) to reco rd a vid eo. The time counter at the b ottom of the Camcorder viewfi nder screen indicates recording time in seconds.
Messaging 52 • Reply With Copy — Compose and send a reply message to the originator of the received messag e and include a cop y of the original message. •E r a s e — Delete this message from the Inbox. • Lock / Unlock — Block/ permit erasure of the h ighlighted message.
53 4. T ap to complete the messa ge text and set message send options. The following opti ons appear in the display: • Save As Draft — Save the message to your Draf ts box. • Insert Quick T ext — Insert pre- composed text in your message. •P r i o r i t y Level — Choose Urgent or Normal .
Messaging 54 V oicemail Messages in your voi ce mailbox are logg ed in the Voicem ail folder of the Messages menu. Open the Voicemail folder to view the Callback # (if available), Urgency , an d other details of the Voicemail messages in y our voice mailbox.
55 • All Messages — Deletes all unl ocked messages stor ed in all of the message f olders, exc ept Voicemail. 3. Select the folde r containing the messa ges that you wish to delete. Y ou’re prompted to confirm the e rasure of all messages in the sel ected fo lder or in all folde rs.
Camera-Camcorder 56 Section 6: Camera-Camcorder Use your Samsung phone to take full color digital pictures and videos, display them on your phone’ s vivid co lor display , and instantly share them with family an d friends. It’ s fun, and as easy to use as a trad itional point-and-c lick camera or camc order .

59 Tip: Y ou can change a number of the Camcorder’ s settings to suit particular uses for your pictures. For more information, refer to “Camcorder Options” on page 65. Screen Layouts Camera Screen When you activate your phone’ s camera, the first line of the di splay is reserved for the current camera setti ngs and picture counter .

61 Mode Switches to Camc orde r mode. The Camcorder view finder screen appears in the display . Shootin g Mode Shooting Mode lets you set your pho ne’ s Camera to take a one or more pictures, with or without co lorful formats or frames, at the touch of a key .
Camera-Camcorder 62 2. Select the desired Timer option. If you select 3 , 5 , or 10 , the Self Timer icon appears in the camera scre en in the display . When you press the Camera key ( ), the countdown timer indicates the t ime remaining before the camera takes the picture.
63 Effects Change the look of your pictures with Effects. Choose from six available settings such as Gray , Negative, an d Sepia. The selected color effect previews in the display be fore you take the picture. 1. In Camera mode, tap Options ➔ Camera tab ➔ Effects .
Camera-Camcorder 64 Revi e w 1. In Camera mode, tap Options ➔ Settings tab ➔ Review . The following op tions pop-up: •O n — Photos are disp layed for review i mmediatel y after you ta ke them. •O f f — Photos are not display ed after yo u take them.
65 in the display . 2. T o Zoom in on a subject, press the Volume key down. 3. T o Zoom out from a subje ct , press the Volume key up. The next time you press the Camera key ( ), the camera takes an enla rged picture according to yo ur selected Zoom setting.
Camera-Camcorder 66 Re s o l u t i o n This is an indicator only . Camco rder resolu tion is fixed at 176 x 144 (pixels). Brightness Brightness lets you temporarily lighten the videos you record. Increasing the Brightness (-4 – +4) lightens your videos ( 0 is normal).
67 • Black & Wh ite — Subjects and pictures appear i n black an d white. •S e p i a — Subjects and p ictures a ppear in a brownish-gr ay hue. • Aqua — Subjects and pictures ap pear in an aqua hue. •N e g a t i v e — Subjects an d pict ures appe ar in inv erted col ors.
Camera-Camcorder 68 as an audible reminder that your camcorder has stopped recording a video. 1. In Camcorder mode, press Options ➔ Settings tab ➔ End Sound . The following options pop-up: •O f f • Stop Beep 2. Select the desired end sound. Y ou’re returned to the camcorder viewfinder screen.

Multimedia 74 Section 7: Multimedia This section outlines your phone’ s multimedia func tions and key features associated with multimedia. Accessing Multimedia 1. In Standby mode, tap Menu ➔ Multimedia . T he following Multimedia options appear in the display: • Camera — Lets you launch and set up yo ur phone’s camera.
75 • All Song s — Lists all music files on the Memory Card and lets you play individ ual music file s or play multiple m usic files by cr eating a tempor ary music pl ayli st. • Playlists — Lists any playlists you have saved and lets you create, save, and manage playlists.
Multimedia 76 Loading Mu sic Files T o transfe r music to a micr oSD™ Memory Card, do the following: 1. Before loading music files on a Memory Card, do the following: • With your phone powere d off, insert th e Memory Card int o your phone. (For more information, see “Install a Memory Card” on page 8.
77 4. Press to return to the previous menu, or press to return to St andby mode. Re c o r d N e w My Sounds lets you record voic e memos and lets you assign preloaded and downloaded sound files as ringers for calls, alarms, and othe r alerts. 1. From the Multimedia menu, tap Ringtones .

T ools 82 Section 9: T ools This section explains ho w to use your phone’ s digital assistant functional ity to schedule even ts, set reminders, perform calculations, and more. T ools Menu T ools is a suite of Perso nal Informa tion Mana gement (PIM) applications, such as a Calendar a nd Memo Pad, that run on your phone.

97 Security Use the Security menu to lock your phone, set up emergency numbers, enable or disable voice pr iv acy , set restri ctions, as well as other security options. 1. From the Phone Settings menu, tap Security . The Enter Code keypad screen appears in the display .
Changing Y our Settings 98 • On Power U p — The phone lo cks automatical ly the next time your phone is powe red ON. (The phone stays locked until you enter the lock code.) 2. T a p the desired Ph one Lock Setting. Lock Phone Now This setting locks the phone immediately .
99 2. T ap the desired NAM setting. The phone powers itself off and back on. PC Connec tion PC Connection lets you select the default type of PC connection you wish to use to exchange fi les between a PC and your r630. Tip: For more information on using PC Connection , contact your service provider .
Changing Y our Settings 100 • Every 60 Seconds — Phon e automatica lly re-dials a num ber every 60 seconds. • Off — Disables automatic re-d ialing of numbers. 2. T a p the desired setting.
