6 Activating y our Phone If you purchased your phone at a Verizon Wireless store, it is activate d and ready to use. If you rece ived a new phone by mail , it may need to be activa ted before yo u can use it. T o activa te your phone, choose fro m the following: • Visit a Verizon Wireles s store.
Getting Started 7 Batter y Co ver The battery is under a removable co ver on the back of the phone. Remo ving the batter y cover 䊳 Pull up using the slot provid ed (1), while lifting the cove r off the phone (2). Installing the batter y cov er 䊳 Align the cover and press it fi rmly into p lace, making sure it snaps into place at the corners.
8 Charging the Batter y Y our phone comes with a W all/USB Charger (Charging Head and USB cable) to charge your phone from any 120/220 V AC outlet. Note: The battery comes partially charged. Y ou must fully charge the batter y before using your phone for the first time.
Getting Started 9 T ur ning Y our Phone On and Off T u r ning Y our Ph one On 䊳 Press and hold the Power/Lock Key for three seconds. While powering on, the phone connects with the network, then displays the Home sc reen and active alerts. Note: Y our phone’s internal antenna is located along the bottom back of the phone.
10 Y our Goog le Account Y our new phone uses your Go ogle account to fu lly utilize its Android features , including Gmail, Google T alk and the Android Market. When you turn on your phone for the first time, set up a connection wi th your existing Google account, or create a new Google account.
Getting Started 11 T ask Manager Y our phone can run applications simultaneously , with some applications running in the background. Use T ask Manager to see which applications are running on your phone, and to end running applicat ions to extend battery life.

22 Annu nciator Line The Annunciator line displays icons to show network status, battery power , a nd other details. Signal Str ength : Current signal stre ngth. The greater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Airplane Mode Active : All wireless communications are disabled.

Call Functions 33 Making Calls using Spee d Dials Speed Dials are 1-, 2-, or 3-digit shortcuts (1 to 100) you assign to contacts, to allo w you to quickly ca ll the contact. For more information about set ting speed dials, see “Speed Dials” on page 51.
34 Thr ee-W ay Calling Merge two calls to set up a thre e-way call between you and two other parties. Setting up a Multi-Par ty Call 1. Establish a call, either by dialing or answeri ng an incoming call. 2. T ouch Add Call . The first call is placed on hold, and the Dialer displays.

Accounts Y our phone provides t he ability to synchroniz e information from a variety of accounts, including Google, a Corporate Exchange server , and social networking si tes such as Facebook, T witter , and MySpace.
