17 Getting to know your phone Antenna The antenna is a device fo r transmitting and receivin g signals. The shape and size of the antenna is determined, in pa rt, by the frequency of the signals that they receive. An antenna makes the call so und clearer when it i s fully extended.
18 Headset connector This is where the option al hands-free headset is connected. The headset includes an earbud and micropho ne in a convenie nt, lightweig ht unit so you can talk without using your hands. • Before inserting the ha nds-free headset connec tor to your phone, gently pry open the top of the cover to expose the headset connector .
19 Send key The key perf orms several useful functions: • Press once to answer call s. • Enter a number and pres s o nce to c onnect a call. • Press twice in standby mode to redial the last outgoing number . Navigation The Navigation key allows you to l ocate different menu o ptions by pressing in the appropriate direction.
20 The top line of icons sh own on the liquid crystal display (LCD), appear according to th e phon e’ s operating mode. The lower area of the LCD di splays in-use information. Display screen icons Signal strength: This icon always appears w h en your phone is on.

23 Installing the battery Note: Your phone comes packag ed with a partially charged rechargeable standard Li-Ion battery and travel adapter . The pho ne can be used while the battery is chargi ng, but must be fully charged the first time you use your phone otherwise the batt ery could be damaged.
24 Charging the battery Y our phone is powered by a recha rgeable standard Li-Ion battery . Only use Samsung-approved adaptors and batterie s. These adaptors are desi gned to maximize battery life. Using other adaptors may invalidate your warranty and may cause damage.
25 1. With the battery in positi on in the phone, att ach the cord from the travel adaptor by plugging it into the adapto r outlet at the bottom of the phone.

28 T alk mode Y ou can place and answer calls only w hen your phone is turned on. When you are on a call your phone is in T alk mode. Pressing will display a list of the In-Use menu options. Vibrate mode In standby mode: 1. Press the down arrow located on the le ft side of your phon e to adjust the ringer volume .
29 Getting Started Getting service Y ou must contact your se rvice provider and follow t heir instructions for obtaining service for your ph one. We suggest that you read this user guide to fully understand the services that your phone supports. T urning your phone on T o turn your phone on: 1.
30 T urning your phone off T o turn your phone off: 1. Press and hold for more than two seconds. 2. The display screen and the backlight go off. Note: If your phone is on, and is pressed for less than one second, the phone will not power off. This feature prevents your phone from being turned off accidentally .

These fu nctions are arranged in menus and submenus. The menus and submenus can be accessed by using the navigation key or using shortcuts.
35 Accessing menus using shortcut numbers All main menus, menu levels, and menu content i tems are assigned numbers. All menus and their cont ents can be acc essed using these “Sho rtcut” numbers. The following steps are a sample ex ercise to access games: 1.

37 Erase log Y ou can erase any one of the call direct ories (Outgoing, Incoming or Missed) , or you can erase a ll three directorie s. T o er ase all directories: 1. In standby mode, pre ss to display the main menu . 2. Press for the Calls menu. 3. Press for Erase Log .
38 4. When the call log option di splays, press to locate the call information you require. If there is a Phone Book mat ch, the name displays. If there is no Phone Bo ok match, on ly the phone n umber will display . 5. When your selection is highlighted you can: • Press to be connected to that party .
39 4. Press to highlight an optio n. The available options are: • Last Call • To t a l • LifeT ime • Erase T otal 5. Press to open an option, or press to cancel, a nd return to the previous screen. Last call Last call allows you to review the amou nt of time spent on the last call you made.
40 The screen displays the tota l number of calls, and the tot al air time for calls made and receive d since you la st set the Total air time to ze ro (by using the Erase Total option. ) 5. Press to return to the previous display screen. LifeTime LifeT ime air ti me is the amount of time the phone has been used since it was first activated.
41 4. Press for Erase Total . 5. Press to highlight Yes or No . 6. With Yes highlighted, press to erase the total airtime and return to previous display , or press to cancel the operation an d re turn to the previous display screen. Call waiting Y our phone beeps when an other c all is coming in.
42 Three way calling T o place a three way call: 1. Call the first party , a nd press . When connected, ask them to remain on the line, press and they will be placed on hold. 2. Call the se cond phone numb er , and pre ss . 3. When the second party answers, press and all parties will be connected.
43 Find by name This option allows you to find a stor ed name (alphabetic ally) in the Phone Book and place a call to that name. 1. In standby mode, pre ss t o display the main menu. 2. Press for Phone Book . 3. Press for Find . 4. Press t o highlight By name .
44 Find by group This option allows you to find a stored entry in a related group. 1. In standby mode, pre ss t o displa y the main menu. 2. Press for the Phone Book . 3. Press for Find . 4. Press to highlight by Group. 5. Press to select t he entry .
45 Add This menu allows you to add in formation to your Phon e Book. With the phone in standby mode: 1. Press for t he main menu. 2. Press for Phone Book . 3. Press for Add . The Phone Book display screen prompts you to confirm Number or E-mail . 4. Press .
46 Setting secret This feature allows you to k eep certain numbe rs in your Phone Book confidential so that ot hers cannot access the m. 1. From the Phone Book (option) screen, press to highlight Secret . 2. Press to hi ghlight Secret On or Secret Off .
47 Overwriting existing name and number information Y ou can overwrite existing inf ormation usin g separate actions in both the name and number fields. Follo w these instructions: 1. At the Phone Book (options) screen, pre ss the to highlight an existing name or number fiel d.
48 Storing pauses in a phone book entry T o store a number in your Ph one Book that contains pauses: 1. Enter the phone nu mber you want to st ore (such as the ban k’ s teleservice phone number). 2. Press . The pause me nu options display . 3. Press to h ighlight one of th e three pause menu options offered .
49 Note: Storing pauses is convenient if you plan to call the number frequently . Erasing individua l phone book entries T o erase an existing entry from eit her the Find by Name or Find by Entry option. 1. In standby mode, pre ss t o displa y the main menu.
50 4. Select Ye s and press to erase the Phone Book entirely, or press to cancel the operation. Erasing Phone Book and Voice Dial displays. The p hone then returns to standby mode. Editing an existing e-mail address T o edi t an existing e-mail addre ss: 1.

Storing incoming phone numbers at the end of a call T o store a phone number after ending a call: Note: If the call was incomi ng, and Caller ID information was unavail able, then the store option will also be unavailable.
52 One-touch dialing Memory locations 001 through 0 09 are special O ne-T ouc h locations. You can call the phone numbers stor ed in the Phon e Book memory from 001 through 009 by pressing one key . For example, for loc ation number 001. Press and hold until the name and number are displayed and called.
53 5. Press to call that entry’ s Speed Dial number . My phone # T o display your phone’ s number: 1. In standby mode, pre ss t o display the main menu. 2. Press for the Phone Book . 3. Press for My Phone # . The phone’ s number displays. 4. Y ou can press to return to th e previous menu at any time.
54 Creating SMS text messages 1. In standby mode, pre ss (press when in-use) to display Message . 2. Press for New Messages . The screen displays Send To: . 3. Press to select from options. ( Phone Book , T9 Word, ABC, Symbol, 123) . 4. Press to highlight an option.
55 • 2 days • 3 days • Send Later: Allows you decide when you want your message sent. • None • 30 min. • 1 hour • 2 hours • 12 hours • 1 day • 2 days • 3 days • Message Save: Provides options on how your message is saved.
56 T o change the input mode again: 1. Press to view the options. 2. Press to highlight your choice. 3. Press to save. • ABC: This is the text entry mode. • T9 Word: This is the predictive word entry mode . Y ou can quickly and easily enter frequently used words.
57 T9 ® word text entry T9 Word, or T9 for text on 9 keys, requ ires only one key press per letter , and recognizes the most commonly used word of a numeric sequence. For example, to enter the wo rd hello, you can spell ou t the word by pressing only five keys, 4-3-5-5-6.
58 4. Pressing permi ts selection from the options: Phone Book, T9 Word, ABC, Symb ol and 123 . 5. After finding an d entering th e Send To: information, press to go to the Message menu. 6. Enter your message data, (press to selec t your text entry mode), when finished, pres s to return to the New Message menu.
59 Outbox Y our phone stores message s in Outbox, re gardless of whether the message was successfully transmitted. If Do Not Save was not set in the Save Message setting under Msg Setup, you can review , resend , or del ete any me ssage stored in the Outbox.
60 Messages and lock mode Incoming messages are received e ven when your phone is in Lock Mode. The screen will display the time and date of t he message but you ca nnot access the message. T o access the message, un lock the ph one to proc eed. Filed message Y our phone c an store draft messages th at are yet to be sent in t he Filed Msg folder .
61 9. Enter a message, when finished press , the New Messages screen displays. 10. Press for Action . 11. Press for Filed Msg . W eb Alert Y our ph one alerts yo u w ith incoming browser mess ages. When a new message arrives, your phone will display a text notification together with an audible alert.
62 Message setup 1. In standby mode, pre ss (press when in-use) to display the Message menu. 2. Press for Message setup . Y ou can preset a number of options fo r general settings or new messages. The message indicator is displa yed and remain s on the screen until you listen to the new voicemail message, read the New BrowserMsg or Text Msg.
63 Auto Sav e - automatical ly saves the created message to the Outbox after the message is transmitted. Entry Method Y ou can navigate between Alphabet and T9 Word (predictive keypad) for the default setting. Select to save t he setting. Auto delete This option allows you to have your messag e automatically deleted after viewing it.
64 Receiving a message while on a call When you receive a message while you a re on a call, the New Messages screen displays two options: Ignore and Read. The closed envelo pe icon is displayed. Y ou can easily review the new message while on the call by just pressing .
65 • While reviewing the message, you can press the to locate message information such as: date an d time, send er’ s call back number , senders number , E-Mail a d dress, and message. However , if you wait a few seconds the ph one will automatically scroll through t he display .
66 • Save addr: to save the sender’ s e-mail address to the Phone Book. The address is automatically copied into the Add Entry or E-mail Entry field. • Save cb#: to save the call back numb er to the Phone Book. The number is automatically copi ed to the Add Entry field.
67 Mobile web Y our phone comes equipped with Wi reless Web Internet access through a MiniBrowser . The MiniBrow ser displays immediate in formation through your phone. Y ou can view specia lly designed versions of popular sites which include sports, weather , news, stock quote s, etc.
68 Launching the minibrowser Note: The first time you use the MiniBrow ser , you will be prompted to go through a security setup process that takes approximatel y three to five minutes. Note: When the security key is initially sent to the carrier , a unique value i s created.
69 Exiting the web/minibrowser Press to exit the Web. If the Prompt to end or Prompt both option is selecte d in the MiniBrowser setup ( ), a prompt asking if you want to end the MiniBrowser call is displayed. The minibrowser start and end prompts Y our phon e can be set to vi ew a prompt each t ime you start or en d a MiniBrowser session.
70 Navigating the web When you use the MiniBrowser , some of the keys on your keypad will operate differently than during a normal phone call. The MiniBrowser presents on-screen items in any of the fo.
71 Asterisk / Shift: Press this ke y before enterin g text to create upper case c haracters. Y ou can also use this key to move back one space on the display s creen. 0/Next: Press this key to enter a 0, or to move to the next word wh en in T9 predictive word e ntry mode.

77 4. Enter the date and time you wa nt to “ Count Down ” to. For example: if today’ s date is April 1, 2001 and you want to know how many months, days, and hours remain before 7:00 P .M. February 14th 2002, enter the time 07:00 P .M. and the date 02/1 4/2002.

81 Banner This option allows you to edit and pe rsonalize a banner to display on your phone while in Standby Mode. Note: Enter the personal greeting using the keypad, Press f or T9 Word, ABC, symbo ls and 123 options respectively Note: The key also navigates through the same options in identical order , and can be pressed for upper case characters.

83 Contrast The LCD has contrast setting that can help you see the screen better in different lighting conditions. T o set the LCD contrast: 1. Press to display the menu. 2. Press for Display . 3. Press for LCD Contrast . 4. Scroll between the contrast settings to determi ne what contrast is most visible to you.
84 Sounds Ringer options Y our phon e provides a variety of ringer options throu gh the Sounds me nu. These options allow you to customize yo ur ringer type and ringer volume settings in order to easi ly recognize a cer tain type of incomi ng call, message or scheduled event.
85 Ringer type Six monotone ringer types and fiftee n melody tones can be found under t he ringer type option in the Sounds menu. Ringer type — Calls T o ac tivate, view or change the ringer type for calls: 1. In standby mode, pre ss t o display the main menu.
86 Note: You c an press to return to the previous menu at any time. Ringer type — data/fax incoming T o ac tivate, view or change the ringer type for incoming data/fax calls: 1. In standby mode, pre ss to display the main menu. 2. Press for Sounds .
87 Key beep Key Beep allows you to adjust the tone leng th and volume level that the keypad generates each time you press a key . The di spla y icon shows up to 5 levels (the loudest setting). No bars indicate that the key be ep function is sil enced.
88 Alerts Y our phone will beep from ti me to time, this beep is calle d an alert beep. Ale rt beeps can easily be turned on or of f. Th is feature of fers the following options: Minute beep, S ervice, Connect, Discon nect, Fade, Roam, and Privacy .
89 Note: Y ou can press to return to the previous menu at any time. When a call experiences a failed or dropped cal l, a text message will display . Press to clear the prompt and return to standby mode. If the dropped call was an outgoing call from y our pho ne, you can redial the number automatically by pressing twice.
90 Roam ringer When this option is set to On , your phon e sounds a uniq ue tone when a call is received in a network service area. This feature is set to On by default. T o set the Roam Ringer alert on or off: 1. In standby mode, pre ss t o display the main menu.
91 Vo i c e d i a l Y our phone features Voice Dial(ing). Us ing the Voice Dialing feature requires that you first program the phone to reco gni ze the name of the pe rson you are calling. Note: Y ou can store only one voice d ial entry per stored name.
92 5. Wait for the beep and then say the name. For best resu lts, use names with at least two syllables, or use bo th a first and last name. Th e phone stores the name as a “first” sa mple, and then prompts you t o say the name again. 6. Respond to the prompt by repeating the name exactly as you did the first time.
93 5. At the voice and screen prompt, press to confirm that you want to Erase All of the entries. A screen prompt will display whe n the entries have been erased.

96 Object The object of the game is to fly the ribb on through a maze of obstacles. Use the navigation key to control the pat h of the ribbon. Move the flig ht path of the ribbon up or down to av oid the wall. The longer t he distance, the faster the ribbon goes.
97 Spider Hunter T o open Spider Hunter: 1. Press to display the me nu. 2. Press for Game s . 3. Press for Spider Hunter . 4. Press any key to start the game. 5. Select the level by pre ssing for easy or for hard. Object The object of the game is to drop the potted plants on the spiders from the top of the wall.

The options are: data/fax off, fax for next call, fax unt il powered off, data for next call, and data un til powered off.
100 Note: Once you have set your phone’ s mode to fax for next call, you cannot receive regular voice calls until you chan ge back to data/fax off, or a fax is received. Ending a fax or data ca ll Some of the normal ways to e nd a call, like closing the phone, will not end a fax or data call.

104 Note: Emergency number 911 is hard-coded into your ph one. You can dial these numbers and press at any time, even when the p hone is locked or restricted. If you call 911 an audible tone is heard and an Emergency prompt is displayed during the duration of the call.
105 Calling emergency numbers in lock mode T o call emergency numbers in lock mode: 1. In standby mode, use t he keypad to enter the emergency number . 2. Press to place the cal l. Clear Memory Clear Memory erases your Phone Book and Voice Dial recordings.

Call answer With this option activated, yo ur phone wil l allow you to select a speci fic answer mode when you receive an incoming call. Auto retry With this option activated , your phone automaticall y dials the number when a connection fai ls. Dependent up on your locatio n, the number of times your phone automatically dial s the number may vary .
108 Note: You c an press to return to the previous menu at any time. Clock set Y our phon e is equipped with a standard cl ock and a dual cl ock for seeing time in multiple cities or countries. Your phone automatically displays the time and date when in digital mode.
