6 T o replace the battery cover: 1. Position the battery cover over the batter y compartment and press down until you hear a click. 2. Press down along the edges of the cover to verify it is secured.
Getting Started 7 2. Carefully slide t he SIM card in to the SIM card socket until the card is secured into place. Make sure that the card’ s gold contacts face down an d that the upper -left angled corner of the card is positioned as shown. T o remove the SIM card: 1.

10 4. When charging is finished, first unp lug the charger’ s po wer plug from the AC wall outlet, then disconnect the charger’ s connector from the phone. Important!: If your handset has a touch screen display , please note that a touch screen responds best to a light touch from the pad of your finger or a non-metallic stylus.

If prompted to enter the pho ne pass word, use the keypad to enter your pa ssword and press Confirm (LSK) or . – or – If prompted to unlock the keypad, use the keypad to press Unlock (LSK) ➔ OK (RSK).
12 Accessing Y our V oice Mail Y ou can access your vo ic e mail by either pressing and holding on the keypad or by using the phone’ s menu. 1. In Idle mode, press and ho ld . Y our phone dials the specifi ed voicemail number . 2. When connect ed, follow the voice pro mpts from the voicemail c enter .

16 Side Views of Phone The following illus t rations show th e side elements of your phone: 1. Vo lume keys allow you to adjust the Ring volume in standby mode (with the phone open) or adjust the Speaker volume during a call. When receiving an incoming call, if you press the volume key , yo u can mute the ring tone.

18 Icons This list identifies th e symb ols you’ll see on your phone’ s display screen: Shows the received si gnal strength. The gre ater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Displays when connected to the GPRS network. Displays when your phone is co mmunicating with the GPRS network.
Understanding Y our Phone 19 Bac klight A backlight illuminates the internal displa y and the keypad. When you press any key , the backligh t comes on. It goes off when no keys are pressed within a given pe riod of time, depending on the setting within the Backlight time menu.
20 2. Select the On opti on. Choose from 5 seconds , 15 seconds , or 30 seconds and press . 3. Select the Dim option. Choose from Off , 5 seconds , 15 seconds , or 30 seconds and press . 4. Press Save (LSK) to retain your new settings. Menu Naviga tion Menus, sub-menus, and features are accessed by scrolling through the availa ble on-screen menus.

24 Answ ering a Call When somebody calls you, th e phone rings a nd displays the incoming call ima ge. The caller ’ s phone number , or name if stored in Contacts, is then display ed.
Call Functions 25 Note: At any time while you are in Call history, you may use the optical joystick to scroll left or right between All calls , Missed calls , Dialed calls , Answe red calls, and Voice mail . Note: Recent Calls records only calls that occur while the phone is turned on.

Call Functions 27 Vibr ation Profile The Vibration audio profile is co nvenient when you wish to stop the phone from maki ng any noise , in a theater for ex ample. From the Home screen, pr ess an d hold until the “ Vibration profile on” message and ( ) displays.
28 3. Press the Up or Down Volume keys to view the next function or highlight the next opti on on a list. – or – Use the optica l joystick to move back to the p revious function or option on a list. 4. Press to exit the menu structure without changing the settings.
Call Functions 29 Placing a Call on Hold Y ou can place the current call on hold whenever you want. If your network supports this service, yo u can also make another call while a call is in progress. T o place a call on hold: 1. Press Options (LSK) ➔ Hold .
30 2. With the Contacts entri es di splayed, enter the name to locate in the fie ld above the entries. If you enter the fi rst few letters of the name, the Contact entries list starting with the first entry matching your input. – or – Use the optical joyst ick to highlight a contact.
Call Functions 31 T o set up a multi-p arty call: 1. From th e Home screen, ente r the desired num ber and press . 2. Wait for the caller to answ er , the n press Options (LSK) and select New call to place the current ca ller on hold and dial the second call.
32 Dropping One Par ticipant 1. While in a multi-party c all, press Options (LSK) ➔ End ➔ Select participant . 2. Highlight the desired partic ipant to drop and press to place a checkmark alongside their entr y . 3. Press Drop (LSK) to drop the participant.
Menu Navigation 33 Section 4: Menu Na vigation This section explains the menu navigation for your phone. Menu Naviga tion Y ou can tailor the phon e’ s range of functions to your needs using menus and sub-menus. Menus and sub-menus can be accessed by scrolling usin g the Optical jo ystick or by using s hortcuts.
34 Using Shor tcuts The menu items, such as sub-menus, and options, are nu mbered and can be accessed quickly by using thei r shortcut n umbers. Within the main menu’ s Grid view, you can access any one of menus or sub-menus by pressing th e number keys (1 to 0) corresponding to their loc ation o n the screen.
Entering T e xt 35 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines how to sele ct the desired te xt input mode when entering characters. This se ction also descri bes h ow to use the T9 predictive text system to reduce the number of key strokes associated with entering text.
36 5. Shift key converts the alphabetic ch arac ter into uppercase. Changes the text in put mode to Upper/ Lower case mode. 6. Sym key allows you to enter symb ols, such as punctuation marks. 7. Left Softkey (LSK) allows yo u to select soft key actions or menu item s correspon ding to the bottom left line on the display screen.
Entering T e xt 37 Changing the T ext Input Mode When using you r phone, you often need to enter text, su ch as when storing a name in Contacts, creating yo ur personal greeting or scheduling event s on yo ur calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’ s keypad.
38 • Numeric • Symbol 3. When the T ext input mode indi ca tor displays your selected mode, enter text within the text message. Using T9 Mode T9 is a predictive text input mo de that allows you to enter any character using single keystrokes . This text input mode is based on a built- in dictionary .
Entering T e xt 39 Adding a new word into the T9 dictionar y 1. After pressing the keys corresponding to the word you want to add, press to display alternative words. If the last alternative word is not recognized by the dictionary, the screen displays Spell on the bottom left line.
40 Using ABC Mode T o enter text in ABC m ode: 1. Press (RSK) to change the text input mode. 2. Scroll to the ABC mode and press Select (LSK) or . Use the 2 to 9 keys to ente r your text. 3. Press the key labeled with the lette r you want. Once for the first letter , twice fo r the second letter , and so on.
Entering T e xt 41 Ke y s By default, the first lett er of an entry is capitalize d and all consecutive le tters are kept in lowercase (unless t he Shift ke y is used). After a ch aracter is ente red, the cursor automatically advances to the next space afte r two seconds or when you enter a character on a different k ey .
42 4. Press OK (LSK). The new symbol is inserted into your message. Each on screen sy mbol set offers di fferent symbols for each key . 5. T o clear the symbol(s), press . When the input field is empty , this key re turns th e display to the previous mode.

44 View T ab The View T ab is an area that displays on the screen when a missed call, m essage, or voicemail is sent to the phone. The three View tabs th at display icons are: • New messages • Mis.

46 Picture Messages This menu allows you to use the Multimedia Message S ervice (MMS) to create a Pictu re messages. Picture Messaging is a messaging service that prov ides delivery of personal picture messa ges from phone to phon e or from phone to email.
Messaging 47 Note: Y our recipient must reside in Contacts before you can add the recipient to this message. 4. Highlight the text fiel d and create your message. Note: For more information about entering characters, see “Using ABC Mode” on page 40.
48 Message Inbox The Message inbox stores received message s. Y ou can tell what kind of message it is by the icon displayed. If the o pen envelope icon displays then the message was read, otherwise the c losed envelope icon displays.
Messaging 49 Viewing a T ext Message 1. From the Home screen, press Menu (LSK) ➔ Messaging ➔ Conversations . 2. Select a text m essage from the li st and press Vi ew () to view the co ntents.

Highlight the message bubble containing the grey multimedia icon and press Play/Pause ( ) to play or pause the multimedia message.
Messaging 51 Drafts This message box stores messages you may want to edit or send at a later time. When you ente r this menu, the li st of draft messages is displayed.

Press Options (LSK) to access the following applica tion options: • V oicemail settin gs : allows you to record a gr eeting, change your PIN, or acti vate the v oicemail f eature. • Call voicemail : dials the vo ice mailb ox. •S y n c n o w : synchro nizes with th e voicema il inbox and displays recent voicemail messages.
Messaging 55 Exc hange Email Use the following procedure to configure your phone to synchronize with a corpora te em ail account. Befo re you begin synchronizing, record the se rver and URL address of the Exchange server , your Exchange account user name, and your Exchange account password.
56 6. Press More (RSK) once you are sig ned in to refresh the screen, change settings, minimize the screen, exit, or view help. 7. Press t wice to exit the a pplication. – or – Press ➔ Ye s (LSK) when " Do you want to exit? " displays to ex it this application.
Messaging 57 Te x t m e s s a g e Centers around T ext sendin g options. The following Sending options are available: • Reply path : allows the recipient o f your message to sen d you a reply m essage us ing your mes sage cente r , if y our network supports this service.
58 • Send delivery repor t : when enabled, the phone info rms the network whether or not your message was received. • Reject anonymous : automatically rejects mes s ages with a category of anonymous. • Reject advertisement : automatically rejects me ssages with a category of advertisement.

60 Section 7: P eople This section explains how to use and manage your Contacts list. Y ou can save phone numbers to yo ur phone’ s memor y or to your SIM card. Mobile Backup Y our Contacts list is backed up by T -Mobile the firs t time you turn on your phone and each time y ou make a change to the address book.
People 61 The following opti ons are availabl e: • Mobile : assigns t he number ente red to the Mob ile entr y . •H o m e : assigns the number ente red to the Home entry . •W o r k : assigns the number entered to the Office entry. •O t h e r s : allows you to ent er an addi tional ph one number f or this entry .
62 Finding a Contact Entr y Y ou can store phone numbers and their corre sponding names onto either your SIM card or phone’ s built-in memory. They are physically separate but are used as a single entity , called Contacts. Note: A Phone icon appears to the left of a Contact entry stored on the phone.

64 Configuring the Caller G r oups Settings 1. Highlight the n ewly creat ed group and press . 2. Press Options (LSK) ➔ Group settings . 3. Highlight the Picture field and pr ess Select (LSK) or to create a Picture ID for this new c aller group.
People 65 5. Highlight the Ringtone field and press Change ( ) to alter the rington e. The following options are available: • Sounds : display s a list of sou nds from whic h to select as a ringtone . • Voice lis t : displays a list of voice messages from which to select as a ringtone.
66 Note: The Phone and SIM card option from the Menu ➔ Peo p le ➔ Management ➔ View contacts from ➔ Phone and SIM card option must be selected in order to access all Contacts. Sav e Contacts T o This option allows you to assign the default storage location fo r new contacts.
People 67 Deleting Contact Entries from the Phone or SIM Import ant!: Once contact entries are deleted, they cannot be recovered. 1. From the Home screen, press Menu (LSK) ➔ People ➔ Management ➔ Delete contacts . 2. Select Phone and when the Delete? confirmation messag e displays, press Ye s (LSK) to delete or press No (RSK) to cancel.
68 My number This function is a memory aid, which you can use to edit or remove your own phone number . Y ou can also edit the default name assigned to your phone number . 1. From the Home screen, press Menu (LSK) ➔ People ➔ My number . 2. Press ( ) to change the information.

Additional ly , you can send these photos to other people in a Picture Messag ing message or set a wallpaper or picture ID im age. 84 Memor y Status With Memor y Status , you can check the amount of memor y being used and memory remaining for Ph otos, Music, Images, Sounds, Videos, Other files, or Games and Apps. 1. From the Home screen, press Menu (LSK) ➔ Media ➔ Memory s tatus .
Organizer 85 Section 9: Organizer This section outlines the various applications that a re available on your phone. Organizer The Organizer allows yo u to set alarms, sc hedule appointments, view the calendar , create tasks, perform simple math calculations, chec k wo rld time, perform unit conversions, set a timer , and use a stopwatch.
86 Week view When you selec t this option, th e calendar di splays the selected week with today’ s date and time highlighted. 1. From the Home screen, press Menu (LSK) ➔ Or ganizer ➔ Calendar ➔ Options (LSK) ➔ Vie w by ➔ Week .
Organizer 87 • Missed alarm events : displays a list of mi ssed alarm events. • Memory status : displays the number of calendar events you presently have and ho w many events you can create for each categor y . For example: 0/ 50 means you used zero of fift y availa ble events for this category .
88 Holidays This option allows you to record holidays in your calendar . Y ou can also set an alarm to remind yo u of important a nniversaries. 1. From the Home screen, press Menu (LSK) ➔ Or ganizer ➔ Calendar . 2. Press Options (LSK) ➔ Event list ➔ Holidays .

90 Alar m This feature allows you to: • Set up to ten alarms to ring at specified times. • Set the phone to switch on automatically and ring the alarm even if the phone is switched off.
