Getting Started 6 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to st art using your phone by f irst configurin g your hardwar e, activating your serv ice, and then setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is ne cessary t o install both the ba ttery and SIM into their corresponding internal compartments.
7 Important! The plug-in S IM card infor mation an d its contac ts can be easily damaged by scratching or bending, so be careful when handling, inserting, or removing the card. Keep all SIM cards out of reach of small children. Carefully slide the SIM card into the SIM card socket (as shown) until the card locks into place.

Charging a Batter y Y our device is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery . The USB 3.0 T ravel Charger tha t is used to charge the battery , is included wit h your device.
Getting Started 10 1. Plug the flat end o f the USB 3.0 T ravel Cha rger into the Power/Accessor y Interface connector and the other end into the T ravel ada pter . Plug the T ra vel adapter into a standard AC wall outlet. 2. When charging is finished, remove the flat end from the interface connector jack on the phone.
11 Low Ba tter y Indicator When the battery is weak and only a few minutes of talk time remain, the battery icon ( ) blinks and the device sounds a warning tone at regular int ervals. In this condi tion, your phone conserves its remaining battery power , not by turning off the backlight, b ut by entering the dimming mod e.

13 Creating a New Google Account In order to utilize your device to the fulles t extent, you will need to create a Google™ Acco unt when you first use your device. With a Google Account, Google a pplications will always be in sync between your phone and computer .

19 Using the S P en There are several different functions you can perform by using the S Pe n. Air Command T oolbar Once removed from its slot, S Pen shows an on-screen Air Command button toolbar tha t allo ws you to quickly activate frequently used applications or actions.

33 R epositioning the Multi Window The Multi window contains tw o components: tab and apps panel. The tab can be manually moved across the screen. The apps panel (contain ing the scrollab le apps) can b e relocated to lock onto the different sides of the screen (top/bottom/left/right).

Drag the ic on over the Remove icon and release it. As you place the shortcut in to the T rash, both items turn red.

As you place the Widget into the T rash, both items turn red. Note: This action does not actually delete the Widget, it just removes it from the current Home scr een.

47 Enterin g T ext Using Handwriting Y ou can enter text simply by using your finger to handwrite letters on your screen. 1. Press and hold on the keyboard, then tap . 2. Use your finger tip to write out each character . Y ou can print or use cursive.

T o enabl e Swyp e: 1. From a screen where you can enter text, touch and drag down from the Notifications ar ea then tap Select inpu t method .

For mor e information, refer t o “Adding Pauses to Contac t Numbe rs” on page 63. Cor recting an Entered Number Use the following steps to correct a mis-typed entr y when dialing.
51 1. From the Home screen, tap . 2. Enter the emergenc y number (ex: 911) and then tap . 3. Complete your call. During this t ype of call, you will have access to the Speaker mode, Keypad, and End Call features. • After completing yo ur emergency call, appears in the Notification area until you exit the Eme rgency calling mode.
Call Functions 52 Answ ering a Call When a call is received the phone rings and displays the caller’ s phone number , or name if stored in the Address Book. 1. At the incoming call screen: • T ouch and drag in any direction to answer the call. • T ouch and drag in any direction to reject the call and send it to your voicemail.
53 Call Log The phone stores the numbers of the calls you’ve dialed, received, or missed in the Call log. The Call log displays the details of the call. 1. From the Home screen, tap . 2. Ta p t h e Logs tab. A list of recent calls is di splayed. If the number or caller is listed in your Address Book, the asso ciated nam e is displayed.

55 4. At the Add to reject list prompt, tap OK . Future calls from this number will be rejected and sent to your voicemail. Call Duration 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Logs . 2. Press ➔ Call duration . 3. The following times a re displayed for Voice and Data: •L a s t c a l l : shows the length of time for the last call.
Call Functions 56 – Ta p Speaker again to use the phone’ s earpiece (see “Using the Speakerphone During an Active Call” on page 58). The green line will disa ppear when Speak er is not activated. • Mute/Unmute turn the onboard micro phone either on or off.
57 Placing a Call on Hold Y ou can place the current call on hold a t any point during a conversation. Y ou can also make another call while you have a call in progress if your network supports this service. 1. While on a call, tap Hold . This action places the current caller on hold.
Call Functions 58 Ta p Ending call with "Nam e/Number" to end the first call. 3. T o switch betwee n the two calls, tap Swap . •S w a p : Places the current call on h old and then activates the previous call. The ac tive call will appear in a gre en box.

Switching off the Microphone (Mute) Y ou can temporarily switch y our phone’ s microphone off, so that the other person cannot hear y ou. Example: Y ou wish to say something to per son in the room, but do not want the person o n the phone to he ar you.

65 Linking Contacts Linking Contact Infor mation Many people now maintain mul tiple email accounts, social networking logins, and other similar account informa tion. For example, a Facebook account login name might differ from a corporate email account login because they are maintained separately and for different groups of people.

67 Synchronizing Accoun ts From the A ccounts menu you deci de if you want applications to synchronize, send, and receive data at any given time, or if you want the applicat ions to synchronize automatically. After determining how you want the accounts to synchronize, indicate which account to synchronize with your Contacts list.

69 • Separate conta ct : allows you to separate co ntacts that have been linked. This option o nly appears if the contact has been linked. • Mark as de fault : when you have multiple con tacts linked together , you can mark one of them as default (only displays when contact is saved to the phone).

Pictures and Videos 74 Section 5: Pictures and Videos This section explains features related to the us e of the camera and camcorder on your phone. Y ou can take photographs and shoot video by using the built-in camera functionality . Y our 13 megapixel camera produces photos in JPEG format.

77 – Surround shot : Use this to take a 360- degree pictures that are then used to create a spherical pan orama. – Sport s : Use this to take fast action photos. Quick Settings T ap at the top of the d isplay to quickly change Camera settings. Not all of the following options are a vailable in both still camera and video camera modes.

79 • Guidelines : Display viewfinder guid es to help composition when selecting subjects. •F l a s h : activate or deactivate the flash. • Voice control : activates/deactivates voice control featur e that allows you to ver bally take a photo. • Contextual filename : allows you to h ave your location added as part of the filename.
