P RINT M EDIA 4. 1 Choosing Paper and Other Media Y ou can print on a variety of print media, such as plain paper , envelopes, labels, tr ansparencies, card stocks and so on. See “P aper Specifications” on page A.2. T o get the best possible print quality , use only high-quality copier -grade paper .
P RINT M EDIA 4. 2 Choosing Paper and Other Media Plain Paper Letter (8.5 x 11 in.) Legal (8.5 x 14 in.) Executive (7.25 x 10.5 in.) F olio (8.5 x 13 in.) A4 (210 x 297 mm) JIS B5 (182 x 257 mm) A5 (148 x 210 mm) A6 (105 x 148 mm) Envelopes No. 10 (4.
When selecting or loading paper , envelopes, or other special media, keep these guidelines in mind: • Attempting to print on damp , curled, wrinkled, or torn paper can cause paper jams and poor print quality . • Use cut-sheet paper only . Y ou cannot use multi-part paper .
P RINT M EDIA 4. 4 Selecting the Output T ray The printer has two output locations: the rear output tray and the top output tray . T o use the top output tray , be sure the rear output tray is closed.
P RINT M EDIA 4. 5 Selecting the Output T ray 1 Open the rear door by pulling it down . The cover functions as the output tr ay . To open the rear output tray: 2 Pull the extender to extend the output tra y to its full-length position. This will allow the tra y to hold longer paper .
P RINT M EDIA 4. 6 Loading Paper Auto T r ay holds 270 sheets of paper . See “Media Sizes and Capacities” on page 4.2 for acceptable paper size and capacities of the tra y . Load a stack of paper into the Auto T ray and print. F or details on loading paper in the Auto T ray , see “Load Paper” on page 2.
P RINT M EDIA 4. 7 Loading Paper When you change the print settings, if you select Manual in the Paper Source option, you can manually load paper in the Manual T ray . Manually loading paper can be helpful when you want to check the print quality after each page is printed.
P RINT M EDIA 4. 8 4 Print the document. 5 The Manual light on the control panel blinks. Press the Demo button on the control panel. The sheet of paper is loaded and printed. 6 After one page is printed, the Manual light on the control panel blinks again.
P RINT M EDIA 4. 9 Printing on Envelopes Guidelines • Only use env elopes recommended for laser printers.
