Assembling 11 Install the SIM or USIM card and batt er y When you subscribe to a c ellular ser vice, you will rec eive a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card, with subscription details, such as y our personal identification number (PIN) and optional ser vices.
Assembling 12 Inser t the SIM or USIM card with the gold-coloured 3 contacts facing down. If you do not inser t a SIM or USIM card , you can only use your device ’ s non-network ser vices and some menus. Inser t the batter y . 4 Slide the back cov er to close.
Assembling 13 Charge the ba tter y Before using the devic e for the first time, you must char ge the battery . Y ou can charge the device with a tr avel adapt er or by connecting the device to a PC with a USB cable. Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers and cables .
Assembling 14 Connecting the trav el adapter improperly ma y cause serious damage to the device . Any damage caused b y misuse is not cov ered by the warranty . Plug the large end of the tra vel adapter into a pow er 2 outlet. Y ou can use the device while it is charg ing, but it ma y ● take longer to fully charge the batt er y .
Assembling 15 › Charge with a USB cable Before char ging, ensure tha t your PC is turned on. Plug one end (micro-USB) of the USB cable into the 1 multifunction jack . Plug the other end of the USB cable into a USB port on a 2 PC. Depending on the type of USB cable you are using , it may take some time bef ore charg ing begins.
Assembling 16 Pr ess the button at the bottom of the back cov er and slide 1 the back cov er until it stops. Remove the batt er y . 2 Inser t a memor y card with the gold-coloured contacts 3 facing down. Inser t the batter y . 4 Slide the back cov er to close.
Assembling 17 › F ormat the memor y card F ormatting your memor y card on a PC may cause incompatibilities with y our device. F ormat the memory card only on the device. In Menu mode, select S ettings → Gener al → Memory → F ormat memor y card → Ye s .
Getting star ted 18 Getting star ted T urn your devic e on and off T o turn on your device , press and hold the P ower key . If you turn on your device f or the first time, follow the on-scr een instructions to set up your device . T o turn off your device , press and hold the P ower key and select Ye s .

Getting star ted 21 › Idle screen When the device is in Idle mode , you will see the idle screen. F rom the idle screen, you can view y our device’ s status and access applications . The idle screen has multiple panels , and you can add new panels to the idle screen.

Getting star ted 24 T o avoid scra tching the touch screen, do not use ● sharp tools. Do not allow the touch screen t o come into contact ● with other electrical devices. Getting star ted 25 Flick: F lick the screen quick ly to activate an application. ● Area z oom: Place two fingers on the scr een and pull them ● apar t to zoom in or squeez e them together to zoom out . Y our device turns off the touch screen when y ou do ● not use the device for a specified period .
Getting star ted 26 Ac cess menus T o access your devic e’ s menus, In Idle mode, select 1 Menu to access Menu mode . When the help screen f or adding shor tcuts to the idle 2 screen appears , select OK . If you do not want to see the scr een again, selec t the check box next to Do not show again .
Getting star ted 27 › Organise applications Y ou can reorganise the applica tions by changing their order or grouping them in to categories to suit y our prefer ences and needs. T o add a shor tcut to the idle screen, In Menu mode, tap and hold an application.
Getting star ted 28 T o change the order of the screens , In Menu mode, place your two fingers on the scr een and 1 pinch. T ap and hold the thumbnail of a screen and drag it to the 2 location you wan t. Add ne w screens › In Menu mode, tap and hold an application.

Getting star ted 30 Organise the widget panel › Y ou can reorganise the widgets b y changing their order and activating or deactivating them. In Idle mode, press the Home key to open the widget 1 panel and tap and hold the screen. T o activate or deactivate a widget, drag the slider next to 2 the widget.

Getting star ted 32 Adjust the brigh tness of the display › In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Displa y . Drag the slider next to 2 Aut o Brightness . Drag the slider to adjust the lev el of brightness. 3 The brightness level of the displa y will affect how quickly the device consumes batter y pow er .
Getting star ted 33 › Lock y our SIM or USIM card Y ou can lock your device b y ac tivating the PIN supplied with your SIM or USIM car d. In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Gener al → Security . Drag the slider next to 2 PIN lock . Enter the PIN of y our SIM or USIM card and select 3 OK .
Getting star ted 34 Drag the slider next to 4 SIM change aler t . Select 5 Add r ecipients to open the recipient list. Enter a phone number including a coun tr y code (with +). 6 When you ar e finished setting the recipients, select 7 Done . T o add more recipien ts, r epeat steps 5-7.
Getting star ted 35 Number F unction 1 Change case. 2 Switch between Number/S ymbol mode and ABC mode. 3 Acc ess the keyboard settings. If you set two or more input languages , this icon will change to . Select to change the input language. T ap and hold to access the keyboard settings .
Getting star ted 36 Enter t ext using input methods › Change the text input method. 1 Change the text input mode. 2 Select the appropriate vir tual keys or write on the screen 3 to enter y our text. When entering te xt, rotate the device t o display the QWERT Y keyboard on the wider screen.
Getting star ted 37 Mode F unc tion Number Select 1. 123 to switch to Number mode . Select an appropriate vir tual key to enter 2. a number or a symbol. Y ou can enter numbers by tapping and holding a vir tual key in ABC or T9 mode. Symbol Select 1. ?#+ to switch to S ymbol mode.
Getting star ted 38 Release the finger on the last character . 4 When the wor d displays correctly , select 5 to insert a space. If the corr ect word does not display , select an alternative w ord from the list that appears . Repeat steps 2-5 to complet e your text.
Communication 39 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options av ailable dur ing a call or customising and using call-relat ed featur es. › Make or answ er a call Y ou can use the buttons or the touch scr een when you make, accept, end , or reject calls.
Communication 40 Answ er a c all When a call comes in, pr ess [ 1 ] or drag right. When the device is ringing , press the V olume key to mute the ringtone . F or a video call, press [ 2 ]. The fron t camera lens is activated to show y our image. Y ou can set whether to show y our live image or preset image.
Communication 41 › Use a headset By plugging a headset into the device , you can answer and contr ol calls hands-free: T o answer a call, pr ess the headset button. ● T o reject a call, press and hold the headset button. ● T o place a call on hold or retrieve a held call during a call , ● press and hold the headset button.
Communication 42 T o answer a second call , selec t ● Ac cept + Hold Active call or Ac cept + End Active call . T o switch between the two calls, select ● Swa p .
Communication 43 › Use additional f eatures Y ou can use various other call-relat ed featur es, such as auto rejection, F ixed Dialling Number (FDN) mode, call diverting or waiting. Set auto rejection Use auto r ejec tion to reject calls from certain numbers automatically .
Communication 44 Set call diverting Call diverting is a network feature t o send incoming calls to another number that you specify . Y ou can set this feature separately f or several conditions when you ar e not able to answer calls , such as when you ar e already on the phone or when you ar e outside of the ser vice area.
Communication 45 Logs Learn to view and manage logs of calls y ou have dialled, receiv ed, or missed. › V iew call logs Y ou can view logs of your calls filter ed by their types. In Menu mode, select 1 Log s . Select 2 All or Missed . F rom the call logs, you can make a call or send a message directly to a contact.
Communication 46 › Send a text message 1 In Menu mode, select M essages → . Add r ecipients for your message . 2 Enter phone numbers manually . Separate multiple ● numbers by inserting a semicolon or comma or by selecting Enter . Select phone numbers from the lists by selecting the ● options under the recipient input field .
Communication 47 Option F unction Pr otocol Select a net work protoc ol. Home URL Enter the MMS server address. Pr oxy address Enter the addr ess of the proxy ser ver . Linger time (sec) Enter how long the devic e will wait for responses fr om the network.
Communication 48 › V iew a text or multimedia message 1 In Menu mode, select M essages . Y our messages are gr ouped into message threads by contact, like a messenger . Select a contac t. 2 F or a multimedia message, select a message to view the 3 details.
Communication 49 › Send an SOS message In case of an emergenc y , you can ask f or help by sending an SOS message to specified recipien ts. This f eature ma y be unavailable depending on your region or service provider . In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Messages → SOS messages .
Communication 50 Email Learn to cr eate and send email messages, and view or manage messages you hav e sent or received . › Set up an email accoun t and profile In addition to the email account pr edefined by your ser vice provider , you can add your personal email ac counts .
Communication 51 Option F unction Secure connection Select a secur ity protocol f or the SMTP ser ver . Incoming ser ver type Select the t ype of the incoming ser ver (POP3 or IMAP4). POP3 ser ver/ IMAP4 server Enter the addr ess of the incoming ser ver .

Communication 54 ChatON Learn to cha t with your friends and family in ChatON. This is a global communication service based on mobile phone numbers, r egardless device type or operating sy stem. While having a con versation with your buddies , you can send various multimedia files and data, such as photos , videos, and contact numbers.
Communication 55 Social Hub Learn to ac cess Social Hub ™ , the integr ated communication application for email , messages, instant messages, con tac ts or calendar information. V isit socialhub.samsungapps.c o m for more details . In Menu mode, select 1 Social Hub .
Entertainment 56 Ent er tainment Camer a Learn how t o capture and view photos and videos. Y ou can take photos at r esolutions up to 2560 x 1920 pix els (5 megapixels) and videos at r esolutions up to 1280 x 720 pixels . Photos are sav ed in jpg format and videos are sav ed in mp4 format.
Entertainment 57 Number F unction 1 Change the shooting mode and scene mode. 2 Change the camera settings. 3 Hide or display the icons in the viewfinder . 4 View the phot o or video you captured or recor ded last. 5 Capture a phot o. 6 Switch between the fr ont and rear camera lenses.
Entertainment 58 After taking photos, select the image viewer icon to view the captured photos . T o view more photos , scroll left or r ight. ● T o zoom in, place two fingers on the scr een and spread ● them apar t. T o zoom out, mov e your fingers closer together .
Entertainment 59 › Captur e a photo in Self shot mode Y ou can take photos of yourself c onveniently using the fron t camera lens. In Menu mode, select 1 Camer a .
Entertainment 60 Make any necessary adjustments. 4 Select 5 to take the first photo . Slowly mov e the device in the direction you selected and 6 align the gr een frame with the viewfinder . When you ha ve aligned the green frame and viewfinder , the camera will automatically take the next photo .
Entertainment 61 Option F unction Effects Apply a special effect, such as sepia or black and white tones . Exposure metering Select a t ype of exposure metr e. Blink detection Set the camera to alert you when people close their eyes . Guidelines Display guidelines on the preview screen.
