Assembling 9 Inser t the SIM card. 3 Place the SIM card into the devic e with the gold- • coloured contacts facing down. If you do not insert a SIM card, you can only use • your device ’ s non-network services and some menus.
Assembling 10 Charge the batt er y Before using the device f or the rst time, you must charge the battery. Y ou can charge the device with the pro vided travel adapter or by connecting the device to a PC with a PC data cable. Use only Samsung-approved char gers and cables.
Assembling 11 Plug the large end of the trav el adapter into a power 3 outlet. Y ou can use the device while it is charging , but it • may take longer to fully charge the battery . While the device is charging , the touch screen may • not funct ion d ue t o a n uns table pow er su pply .
Assembling 12 Inser t a memor y card (optional) T o store additional multimedia les, you must insert a memory card. Y our device accepts microSD ™ or microSDHC ™ memory ca rds wit h max imum capac ities of 16 GB (depending on memory card manufacturer and type).
Assembling 13 › Remove the memory card Ensure that the device is not currently using the 1 memory card. Remove the back cov er . 2 Push the memory card gently until it disengages from 3 the device. Pull the memory card out of the memory card slot. 4 Replace the back cover .
Assembling 14 Attach a hand str ap (optional) Remove the back cov er . 1 Slide a hand strap through the slot and hook it over 2 the small projection. Replace the back cover . 3 › F ormat the memory card Formatting y our memory card on a PC may cause incompatibilities with your device .

Getting started 20 Use the touch scr een Y our device’ s touch screen lets you easily select items or perform func tions. Learn basic actions to use the touch screen. T o avoid scratching the t ouch screen, do not use • sharp tools. Do not allow the touch screen to come in to • co nta ct wit h oth er el ectric al de vice s.
Getting started 21 Area zoom: Place two ngers on the scr een and pull • them apart to zoom in or squeeze them together to zoom out. Y our device turns o the touch screen when you • do not use the device for a specied period. T o turn on the screen, press any key .
Getting started 22 Select a menu or application. 3 Press [ 4 ] to return to Idle mode. Y our device has a built-in motion sensor that • detects its orientation. If you rotate the device while using some features , the interface will automatically switch to landscape view .
Getting started 23 Add new main menu screens › In Idle mode, press the Menu key to access Menu 1 mode. Select 2 Edit at the top left of the screen. Rotate the device anti-clockwise to landscape view. 3 Select 4 to add a new main menu screen. Y ou can add up to 10 screens.

Getting started 25 Y ou can organise each panel of the idle screen with your favourite widgets . Scroll left or right to a panel and then position widgets anywhere on the screen. T o move a widget on the idle screen, tap and hold the widget until the yellow frame appears , and then position it anywhere on the screen.
Getting started 26 › Set the current time and date In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Date and time . Select the time zone option and a time zone. 2 Enter the current time and date , and set the time and 3 date format. Select 4 Back . › Adjust the v olume of the key tones In Idle mode, press the Volume key up or down.

Select an image. 2 T o select an image from the image folder , select the folder . Select 3 Set . Samsung is not responsible for any use of default images or wallpapers provided on your devic e.
Getting started 28 Enter the new password again and select 4 Done . The rst time you access a menu that r equires a password, y ou will be prompted to crea te and conrm a password. Once the device lock is enabled, you must en ter the password each time you turn on the device .

T o change the text input method, tap and hold and select Keyboard type → a text input method.

When the word displa ys correctly , select 3. to insert a space. If the correct word does not display , select and an alternative wor d from the list that appears.
Getting started 32 Enter text using the QWERTY ke yboard Slide open the device to use the QWERTY keyboard. Press appr opriate alphanumeric keys to enter characters, numbers and symbols. Communication 34 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options available during a call or customising and using call-related f eatures. › Make and answer a call Y ou can use the buttons or the touch screen when you make, accept, end , or reject calls.
Communication 35 › Use the headset By plugging the supplied headset into the device, y ou can make and answer calls: T o redial the last call, press and hold the headset button. • T o answer a call, press the headset button. • T o end a call, press and hold the headset button.

Communication 37 Make a fake call Y ou can simulate incoming calls when you wan t to get out of meetings or unwanted con versations. T o activate the hot key to make fake calls, in Menu mode, select Settings → Applications → Call → F ake call → F ake call hot key → S ave .
Communication 38 Use F ixed Dialling Number (FDN) mode In FDN mode, your device will restrict outgoing calls, except f or the numbers stored in the SIM card. Y ou must rst set up your FDN list in the phonebook to use FDN mode. T o ac tivate FDN mode, In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Security → F ixed dialling mode .
Communication 39 Set call waiting Call waiting is a network featur e to alert you of an incoming call while you are on a pr evious call. In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Applications → Call → V oice call → Call waiting . Select 2 Activate . Y our setting will be sent to the network.
Communication 40 › View the log manager F ro m t he lo g man ager , yo u c an ch eck t he nu mber of messages sent or received and the c ost and duration of your calls.
Communication 41 Messages Learn to creat e and send text (SMS) or multimedia (MMS) messages, and view or manage messages you hav e sent or received . Y ou may incur additional charges for sending or receiving messages while outside your home service area.

Entertainment 51 Entertainment Camera Learn how to capture and view phot os and videos. Y ou can take phot os a t r esol uti ons u p to 20 48 x 153 6 pix els (3.2 mega pixels) and videos at resolutions up t o 320 x 240 pixels. Phot os are saved in jpg f ormat and videos are saved in mp4 format.

Y ou can simply select the proper mode for your shooting condition and subjects. For e xample, when you take photos at night, select the night mode that uses an extended exposure.

Settings 106 Reject call with message - : Select a message to be sent to a caller when you reject a call. Answering mode - : Set how to answer calls— either by pressing [ ] or by pressing an y key— or set the device to answer automatically after a specied period (available only when a headset is connected).
