Assembling 11 Install the SIM or USIM card and batt er y When you subscribe to a c ellular ser vice, you will rec eive a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card, with subscription details, such as y our personal identification number (PIN) and optional ser vices.
Assembling 12 Inser t the SIM or USIM card with the gold-coloured 3 contacts facing down. Do not inser t a memor y card into the SIM car d slot. I f the memor y card becomes lodged in the SIM car d slot, you must take y our device to a Samsung Ser vice Cen tre to hav e the memor y card removed .
Assembling 13 Charge the ba tter y Before using the devic e for the first time or when the battery has been unused for an extended period, y ou must charge the battery . Y ou can charge the battery with a travel adapter or by connecting the device to a comput er with a USB cable.
Assembling 14 Charge with a tr avel adapt er › Plug the small end of the trav el adapter into the 1 multifunction jack . Connecting the trav el adapter improperly ma y cause serious damage to the device . Any damage caused b y misuse is not cov ered by the warranty .
Assembling 15 When the battery is fully charged (the battery icon is no 3 longer moving), unplug the tra vel adapter fr om the device and then from the electrical socket. Do not remov e the batter y before r emoving the travel adapter . D oing this may cause damage to the devic e.
Assembling 16 Charge with a USB cable › Before char ging, ensure tha t your comput er is tur ned on. Plug the small end (micro-USB) of the USB cable into the 1 multifunction jack . Plug the large end of the USB cable int o a USB por t on a 2 computer .
Assembling 17 Inser t a memor y car d Y our device accepts memory cards with maximum capacities of 32 GB. Depending on the memory card manufacturer and type, some memor y cards ma y not be compatible with y our device. Samsung uses approv ed industr y standards for memor y cards , but some brands may not be fully c ompatible with your device .
Assembling 18 Push the memory card in the memor y card slot until it 3 locks in place. Replace the battery and back cover . 4 Remov e the memor y car d › Before r emoving a memor y card, first unmount it f or safe remov al. In the application list, select 1 Settings → S torage → Unmount SD card → OK .
Assembling 19 A ttach a hand strap Remove the back co ver . 1 Slide a hand strap through the slot and hook it o ver the 2 small projection. Replace the back cov er .
Getting star ted 20 Getting star ted T urn your devic e on and off T o turn on your device , Pr ess and hold the Pow er key . 1 If you turn on your device f or the first time, follow the on- 2 screen instructions to set up your device . T o turn off your device , press and hold the P ower key and then select Po wer off → OK .

Getting star ted 27 Get to know the Home screen When the device is in Idle mode , you will see the Home screen. F rom the Home screen, y ou can view your device ’ s status and access applica tions. The Home screen has multiple panels . Scroll lef t or right to a panel of the Home screen.

Getting star ted 29 › Add or r emove panels t o the Home screen Y ou can add or remov e panels of the Home screen to organise widgets acc ording to y our preferenc es and needs. On the Home screen, pr ess [ 1 ] → Edit page . Y ou can also place your two fingers on the scr een and pinch them together to switch t o Edit mode.
Getting star ted 30 Add a Settings shortcut to the Home screen Y ou can creat e shor tcuts to fr equently-used setting options on the Home screen. In the application list, select 1 W idgets to open the widget panel. T ap and hold 2 Settings Shor tcut , and release it on the Home screen.
Getting star ted 31 If you rotat e the device while using some fea tures, the ● inter face will automa tically rotat e as well . T o preven t the inter face fr om rotating , open the notifications panel and select S creen r otation .
Getting star ted 32 Ac cess rec ent applications › Pr ess and hold the Home key to open the list of 1 applications you ha ve accessed recen tly . Select an application to access. 2 Use the task manager › Y our device is a multitasking device. It can run more than one application at the same time .

Select 3 Done or Set wallpaper . Samsung is not responsible f or any use of default images or wallpapers pro vided on your device .
Getting star ted 35 Adjust the brigh tness manually In the application list, select 1 Settings → Displa y → Brightness . Clear the tick box next to 2 Aut omatic brightness . Drag the slider to the left or right. 3 Select 4 OK . Set a screen lock › Y ou can lock the touch screen b y ac tivating the screen lock featur e.
Getting star ted 36 Set an unlock pattern In the application list, select 1 Settings → L o ck screen → Screen lock → P attern . View the on-scr een instruc tions and the example pattern, 2 and then select N ex t . Draw a patt er n to connect at least 4 dots and select 3 Con tinue .
Getting star ted 37 Lock y our SIM or USIM card › Y ou can lock your device b y ac tivating the PIN supplied with your SIM or USIM car d. In the application list, select 1 Settings → Security → Set up SIM card lock → L o ck SIM card . Enter y our PIN and select 2 OK .
Getting star ted 38 Drag the 4 SIM Change Alert switch to the right. Select 5 Alert message . Enter the text message that will be sent t o the recipients 6 and select OK . Add r ecipients: 7 Select ● Create and enter phone numbers manually , including the country code and the + symbol.
Getting star ted 39 Enter t ex t Y ou can enter te xt by speak ing wor ds into the micr ophone, or by selecting characters on the vir tual keypad. Y ou cannot enter te xt in some languages. T o enter text, you should change the writing language to one of the suppor ted languages.
Getting star ted 40 Y ou can also use the follo wing keys: 5 4 6 7 1 2 3 Number F unction 1 Change case. 2 Switch between S ymbol/Number mode and ABC mode. 3 Acc ess the keypad settings; Enter text by voice , or access the clipboar d (tap and hold). 4 Clear your input.
Getting star ted 41 When entering te xt with the 3x4 keypad, you can use the follo wing modes: Mode F unc tion ABC Select 1. to switch to ABC mode . Select a corresponding vir tual key until the 2. appropriate char acter appears. Number Select 1. to switch to Number mode .
Getting star ted 42 Release the finger on the last character . 3 When the wor d displays correctly , select 4 to insert a space. If the corr ect word does not display , select an alternative w ord from the list that appears . Repeat steps 1-4 to complet e your text.
Getting star ted 43 C opy and paste t ex t › While you ar e entering text, you can use the copy and paste featur e to use text in other applications. T ap and hold a passage of text. 1 Drag 2 or to select the text to be copied. Select 3 to copy , or to cut the text onto the clipboar d.
Getting star ted 44 Uninstall an application › In the application list, press [ 1 ] → Uninstall . Select 2 on an application icon and then select OK .
Communication 45 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options av ailable dur ing a call or customising and using call-relat ed featur es. Communication 50 In the application list, select 1 Phone . Pr ess [ 2 ] → C all settings → C all for warding → a call type. Select a condition. 3 Enter a number to which calls will be f or warded and select 4 Enable . Y our setting will be sent to the network.
Communication 51 V iew call logs › Y ou can view logs of your calls filter ed by their types. In the application list, select 1 Phone → Logs . Pr ess [ 2 ] → V iew by → an option to sort the call logs. F rom the call logs, you can make a call or send a message directly to a contact by quickly flick ing the contact to the left or right.
Communication 52 Option F unction Ringtones and keypad tones → Device vibration Add or select a vibration pattern. Ringtones and keypad tones → V ibrate when ringing Set the device to vibrat e and ring to alert you to incoming calls. Ringtones and keypad tones → Keytones Set the device to sound when you enter numbers on the dialling screen.
Communication 53 Option F unction Call accessories → A utomatic answering Set whether or not the device answers calls automa tically after a specified period (available only when a headset is connected). Call accessories → A utomatic answering timer Select the length of time that the device waits bef ore answering calls.
Communication 54 Option F unction Additional settings → C all waiting Set the device to alert you to incoming calls during a call. Additional settings → A uto redial Set to automatically r edial a call that was not connected or that was cut off .

Acc ounts Set to accept IP calls and set up your acc ounts for IP call ser vices. Use Internet calling Set whether to use IP call ser vices for all calls or only f or IP calls.

Communication 57 Listen to v oice mail messages › If you have set missed calls t o be diver ted to the voic e mail ser ver , callers may leave v oice messages when you do not answer incoming calls . T o access your voic e mail inbox and listen to v oice mail messages, In the application list, select 1 Phone → K eypad , and then tap and hold .
Communication 58 T o attach a file, pr ess [ 4 ] → A ttach pic ture or A ttach video → a file. Select 5 to send the message. If you are offline or outside y our ser vice area, the message will be held in the message thread until y ou are online and inside y our ser vice area.
Communication 59 T o add the message to the spam list, press [ ● ] → Report spam or Repor t phishing . T o change the email settings, press [ ● ] → Settings . Email Learn to send or view email messages via y our personal or company email ac count.
Communication 60 Select the subjec t field to enter a subject. 3 Select the tex t input field to enter y our email text. 4 Select 5 and attach a file. Y ou cannot attach Digital Rights Management (DRM)- protected files . Select 6 to send the message. T o send the message at a specified time and date , press [ ] → Schedule sending .
Communication 61 T o save the message t o your device , press [ ● ] → Save email . The message will be sav ed in My Files → A ll files → sdcard0 → Sav ed Email . T o print the message via Wi-F i or USB, press [ ● ] → P rint . Y our device is compatible only with some Samsung printers.
Communication 62 Add friends t o your friend list › In the application list, select 1 T alk → . Enter an email addr ess of the friend and select 2 DONE . When your friend acc epts the invitation, the friend is added to your friend list. Star t a chat › In the application list, select 1 T alk .
Communication 63 Messenger Learn to send and r eceive instant messages to friends and family with the Google+ messenger instant messaging ser vice. This f eature ma y be unavailable depending on your region or service provider . In the application list, select 1 Messenger .
