Assembling 10 Inser t the SIM or USIM card. 3 Place the SIM or USIM card into the devic e with • the gold-colored contacts facing down. If you do not insert a SIM or USIM card, you can • only use your device ’ s non-network services and some menus.
Assembling 11 Charge the batt er y Before using the device f or the rst time, you must charge the battery. Y ou can charge the device with the pro vided travel adapter or by connecting the device to a PC with a PC data cable. Use only Samsung-approved char gers and cables.
Assembling 12 Plug the large end of the trav el adapter into a power 3 outlet. Y ou can use the device while it is charging , but it • may take longer to fully charge the battery . Assembling 13 Inser t a memor y card (optional) T o store additional multimedia les, you must insert a memory card. Y our device accepts microSD™ or microSDHC™ memory cards with maximum capacities of 32 GB (depending on memory card manufacturer and type).
Assembling 14 Remove the memory card › Before remo ving a memory card, rst unmount it for safe removal. In Idle mode, select 1 → Settings → SD card, USB Mass Storage & phone stor age → Unmount SD card . Remove the back cov er . 2 Push the memory card gently until it disengages from 3 the device.
Assembling 15 Attach a hand str ap (optional) Remove the back cov er . 1 Slide a hand strap through the slot and hook it over 2 the small projection. Replace the back cover . 3 F ormat the memory card › Formatting y our memory card on a PC may cause incompatibilities with your device .

Getting started 21 Get to know the idle screen When the device is in Idle mode, you will see the idle scr een. F rom th e i dle s cree n, yo u c an vi ew y our devi ce’ s status and access applications. The idle screen has multiple panels. Scroll left or right to switch panels.
Getting started 22 Remove items fr om the idle screen › T ap and hold an item to remove . 1 The item is magnied and the icon appears on the application area, meaning that the application area a t the bottom of the idle screen changes to the trash.

Getting started 24 Adjust the v olume of the ringtones › In Idle mode, press the Volume key up or down to adjust the ringtone volume. Switch to the silen t mode › T o mute or unmute your device , do one of the followings: In Idle mode, press [ • ] or select → Ke ypad , and tap and hold # .

Drag the slider 2 to adjust the level of brightness . Select 3 OK . The brightness level of the display will a ect how quickly the device consumes battery power .
Getting started 26 Once the PIN lock is enabled, you must ent er the PIN each time you turn on the device. If you enter an incorrect PIN too many times , your • SIM or USIM card will be blocked. Y ou must enter a PIN unlock key (PUK) to unblock the SIM or USIM card.

Getting started 31 Download applications fr om Android Market Based on the Android platform, y our device’ s func tionality can be extended by installing additional applications. Android Market provides you an easy and quick w ay to shop for games and mobile applications.
Getting started 32 Search for an application › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Market . Select 2 Accept when the terms and conditions appears. Press [ 3 ] → Search . Enter a word of an applica tion and select [ 4 ]. Select an application you want to access.
Getting started 33 T o install applications downloaded from websites other than Android Market, you must select Settings → Applications → Unknown sources . Synchr onize data Y ou can synchronize data (Google messages , calendar , and contacts) with various web servers and back up or restore your data.

Communication 35 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options available during a call or customising and using call-related f eatures. Make and answer a call › Y ou can use the buttons or the touch screen when you make, accept, end or r eject calls.
Communication 36 T o activate the speakerphone feature, pr ess [ • ] → Speaker . In noisy environments, y ou may have diculty hearing some calls while using the speakerphone feature . Use F ixed Dialing Number (FDN) mode In FDN mode, your device will restrict outgoing calls, except f or the numbers stored in the FDN list.
Communication 38 Set call waiting Call waiting is a network featur e to alert you of an incoming call while you are on a pr evious call. In Idle mode, open the application list and select Settings → Call settings → Additional settings → Call waiting .
Communication 39 Send a multimedia message › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Messaging → New message . Enter a name or recipient number . 2 Select 3 T ype to compose and enter your message text. T o insert emoticons, press [ ] → Insert smiley .
Communication 40 Listen to v oice mail messages › If you have set missed calls to be div erted to the voice mail server , callers may leave v oice messages when you do not answer incoming calls. T o access your voice mail inbo x and listen to voice mail messages , In Idle mode, press [ 1 ] or select → Ke ypad , and then tap and hold 1 .

Communication 42 Archive messages Fr om the Inbox screen, tap and hold a message. 1 Select 2 Archive . The message will move to A rchive . Filter messages Fr om the Inbox screen, press [ 1 ] → V iew labels . Select the label of the messages you want to view .
Communication 43 Select 8 Send to send the message. If you are oine or outside your service area, the message will be held in the message thread list until you are online and in your service area.
