Your phone 12 Ends a call. Also switches the phone on and off when held down. In Menu mode, cancels your input and returns the phone to Idle mode. In Idle mo de, acce sses your voic e mail when held down. Enters numbers, letters, and some special ch ar acters.
Your phone 13 Display Display layout The display has three areas: Area Descriptio n First line Displays various ico ns. See page 14. Middle Displays messages, instructions, and any information that you enter , such as the number you are dialling. Last line Shows the current functions assigned to the two soft k eys .
Your phone 14 Icons Icon Description Shows the received signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Appears when you are out of your home area and have logged onto a different network; for example, when travelling in other countries.
Your phone 15 Appears when you set an alarm to ring at a specified t ime. Appears when a new i- m ail or i- MM S message has been received. Depending on its colour , it indicates the status of the mail or message. • Grey: indicates that t here is a new mail or MMS message in yo ur phone.
Your phone 16 Backlight The backlig ht illumin ates the dis play and the keypad. When you press any key or open the phone, the backlight comes on. It goes off when no keys have been pressed within a given period of time, depending on the se tting in the Back light menu ( Menu 7.
17 Getting started Installing the SIM card When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a plug-in S IM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, an y optional services av a ila ble, a nd so on.
Getting started 18 3. Slide the SIM card into the SIM ca rd sock e t, as shown, so that the card locks into position. Make sure that the gold-coloured contacts of the card face down into the p hone. Note : When you need to remov e the SIM card, slide it u pw ard, as s hown , and ta k e it out o f the sock et.
Getting started 19 5. Press the battery down until it clicks into place. Make sure that the batter y is properly installe d before switching the power o n. Charging the battery Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery . A trav el charger comes with your phone for charging the battery .
Getting started 20 2. Plug the charger into a standard AC w all outlet. The LED on the charger indicates the charging progress with the following colours: • R ed: the battery is being charged.
Getting started 21 Switching the phone on or off 1. Open the phone. 2. Press a nd hold the key unt il the phone switches on. 3. If the phone asks you to enter a passw ord, enter the password and press the OK soft key o r th e Centre key . The password is preset to “00000000” at the factory .
22 Call functions Making a call When the idle scre en displays, enter the area code and phone number , then press t he key . Note : When you activ at e the Auto redial option in the Extra settings menu ( Menu 7.2.4 ), the phone will au tomatically redi al up to 10 tim es if the perso n doe s n ot a n sw e r th e c a ll or is already on the phone.
Call functions 23 Ending a call When you want to end your call , brief ly press t he key or close the phone. Redialling t he last number The phone stores the numbers of the calls you ’ve dialled, receiv ed, or missed, if t he call recip ient or caller is identifi ed.
Call functions 24 Making a call from Phonebo ok Y ou can store phone numbers that you use regularly on the SIM card or in the phone’ s memory . These entries are col lectively called Phonebook. Once you have stored a number in Phonebook, you can dial it by pressing a few k eys.

Call functions 26 Dialling a number from Phoneb ook Once you have stored phone numbers in Phonebook, you can dial t hem easily and quickly by using the location num bers that were assig ned to them in Phonebook. Note : If you cannot remember a location number , you must go into the Searc h menu ( Menu 2.

Call functions 28 Answering a call When somebo dy calls you, the phone rings a nd displays an incomi ng call im age. The caller ’s phone number or name, if stored in Phonebook, displays. 1. If necessary , open the phone. Pres s the Accept soft key or the key to answer the incoming call.
Call functions 29 Viewing misse d calls When you are unable to answ er a call for any reason, you can find out who called you. The number of calls you hav e missed displays on the idle sc reen imm ediately af ter a call is missed . T o view a missed call im mediately: 1.
Call functions 30 Editing a misse d call number Note : When the number for the missed ca ll is not av aila b le , the Edit optio n does not dis play . 1. Press the Options soft key or the Centre k e y . 2. Press the Up or Down key to highlight the Edit option.
Call functions 31 Quickly switching to S ilent mode Silent mode is convenient when y ou wish to stop the phone from ringing, in a the atre for example. In Idle mode, press and hold the key until the “Silent mode” message and the Vibration icon ( ) display .
32 Selecting functions and options Y our phone offers a set of functions that allow you to customise it. These functions are arranged in menus and submenus, accessed using the two soft keys, and . Each menu and submenu allows you to view and alter the settings of a particular function.
Selecting functions and options 33 Selecting options T o view the va rious functions and options av ailable and to select the one you want: 1. Press the appropriate soft key . In some functions, you may be asked for a password or PIN. Enter the co de and press the OK so ft ke y or th e Cen tr e ke y .
34 Entering text When using your phone, you w ill often need to enter text, such as when storing a name in Phonebook, writing a m essage, creating your personal greeting, or scheduling events on your calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by usin g you r phone ’s keypad.
Entering text 35 Changing the text input mode When you are in a field that allows characters to be entered, you will notice the tex t input mo de indicator on the display . Example : Writing a text message To sel ect Press the right soft key until Alphabet mode displays.
Entering text 36 Using Alphabet mode Use the 1 to 0 keys to e nt er yo ur tex t. 1. Press the keys labe lled with the letter you wa nt: - Once for t he first lette r - T wice for the second letter - And so on 2. Select t he other letters in the same way .
Entering text 37 • T o insert a space, press the k ey . • T o change case in Alphabet mode, use the key . There are three cases; Capita l lock ( ), Lower case ( ), and Initial C apital ( ). • Y ou can move th e cursor by pressing the Navigation ke ys.
Entering text 38 Using T9 mode T9 is a predictive text inp ut mode that allows you to key in an y character using single keystrokes. This text input mode is based on a built - in di ctio n ary . T o enter a word in T 9 mode: 1. When you are in T9 mode, start entering a word by pressing the 2 to 9 keys.
Entering text 39 T o add a new word into the T9 dictionary: 1. After pressing the k eys corresponding to the word you want to add, press the 0 or Do wn ke y to display the alternative words. 2. When there are no more alternative words, t he display shows Add on the bottom line.
40 Options during a call Y our phone provides a number of control functions that you can use during a call. Putting a call on hold Y ou can place the current call on hol d whenever you want. Y ou can make another call while you have a call in progress if your network sup ports this service.
Options during a call 41 When you have an activ e call and a call on hold, you may switch between the two calls, changing the one on hold to active and placing the other on hold.
Options during a c all 42 Switching off the microphone (Mute) Y ou can temporarily switch off your phone’ s microphone so that the other person on the pho ne cannot hear you. Example : Y ou wish to say something to a person in the room, but d o not want the person on the phone to hear you.
Options during a call 43 Muting or sendi ng key tones The Mute keys and Send keys options allow y ou to turn off and on the k e y tones. If the Mute keys option is selected, y our phone does not transmit the DTMF (Dual T one Multi- Frequency) tones of the keys, which allows you to press keys without hearing annoying key tones during a call.
Options during a c all 44 Searching for a number in Phonebook Y ou can search for a number in Phonebook during a call. 1. Press the Options soft key or the Centre k e y . 2. Press the Down key to highlight the Phonebook option. 3. Press the OK soft k ey or the Cent re key .
Options during a call 45 Call waiting Y ou can answer an i ncoming call while you have a call in progress, if your network sup ports this service and you hav e set the Call waiting menu ( Menu 7.5.3 ) to Activate ; see page 131. Y ou are notified of an in co m in g ca ll by a call w aiting tone.
Options during a c all 46 3. T o join the first participant to the multi-party call, press the Options soft key or the Centre key and select the Join option. Press the OK soft key o r the Ce ntre key . 4. T o add a new person to the multi-party call, call the new pers on in the normal way and press the Optio ns soft key o r th e C en tre k ey .

48 Using the menus The phone offers a rang e of functions that allow you to tailor it to your needs. These functions are arranged in menus and submenus. The menus and submenus can be accessed by scrolling or by using th e shortcuts. Accessing a menu function by scrolling 1.
Using the menus 49 Using shortcuts Menu items, such as menus, submenus, and options, can be accessed quickly by using their shortcut numbers. F or the main menus, you can access any one of them by pressing the number keys ( 1 to 9 ) corresponding to their location on the screen.

55 Call records In this menu, you can view the: • calls you ha v e misse d, rece iv e d, or dial le d. • length of your calls. • cost of your calls, depending on y o ur SIM card. Notes : • Y ou can acces s th e call re cord s of a ll thre e t ypes of calls by press in g the key in Id le mode.
Call records 56 Received calls (Menu 1.2) This menu lets you view the 20 most recent calls you rece ived. The number or name, if av ailable, displays together with the time and date the c all was re ceived.
Call records 57 Delete all (Menu 1.4) This menu allows you to dele te all of the recor ds in each call record s eparately . Y ou can also delete all of your call reco rds at one time. 2. Press the Delete soft key to delete the marked records. 3. When a confirmation message display s, press the Yes soft key or the Centre key t o co nf i rm .
Call records 58 Call time (Menu 1.5) This menu le ts you view the ti me log for call s made and received. Note : The actual time inv oi ced by y our servi ce provider may v ary , depending on network features, rounding-off for billing pu rposes , and so on.
Call records 59 Call cost (Menu 1.6) This network fea ture le ts y ou v iew the c ost o f calls. This menu may not be available, depending on your SIM card. The following options are availab le: Last call cost : shows the co st of the las t call you made.
60 Phonebook Y ou can store phone numbers and their corresponding names in both your SIM card and your phone’s memories . They are physically separate but are used as a single entity , called Phonebook. Note : Depending on y our particular SIM card, the maximum number of phone numbers th e SIM card can store may differ .
Phonebook 61 3. Once you have found the entry , you can: • Press the key to dial the number . • Press the Options soft key or th e C en tre key to access the Phonebook entry opt ions; for further details, see the next sections. • Press the i-mail soft key to send an i-mail.
Phonebook 62 Ringtone caller ID : allows yo u to assign one of the ring tones to sound when y ou receive a call from the selected number . For details about the ring tone feature, see page 124. Ringtone caller : allows you to assign one of the ring tones to the number .
Phonebook 63 Caller group : allows you to organise your Phonebook en tries in ca ller grou ps so tha t the phone alerts you in a specific way when a person from one of your groups ca ll s you. Sele ct one of th e 10 groups av aila ble. T o remove an en try fro m a group , select th e No group option.
Phonebook 64 4. Enter the number or addr ess y ou want to sto re and press the Save soft key or th e C en t re key . 5. If you do not w ant to save the number and name in the suggested location, press the C key to clear the lo cation number and enter another location by pressing the number keys.
Phonebook 65 Group search (Menu 2.3) Y ou can search Phonebook entries by group. 1. Enter the first few letters of the group name that you want to find.
Phonebook 66 Group edit (Menu 2.4) In this menu, you can change the p ropertie s of each group. 1. Scroll through the group list by pressing the Up or Down key . 2. When the group you wa nt highlights , press the Optio ns soft key o r th e C en tre key .
Phonebook 67 Speed dial (Menu 2.5) Y ou can assign up to 8 phone numbers from your Phonebook list that you us e mo st frequentl y to the number keys ( 2 to 9 ), and then dial them eas ily whenever you w ant, simply by pressing and holding the associated number k ey .
Phonebook 68 Delete all : allows you to clear the settings for all the keys so that no numbers are assigned to any of the keys. Number : allows you to view the number assigned to the key . Speed diall ing T o quickly dial the numbers assig ned to the 2 to 9 keys, pr ess an d hold t he appr opriat e key in Idle mode.
Phonebook 69 4. When a confirmation message appears, press the Yes soft key or the Centre key . 5. When the display asks for confirmat ion again, press the Yes soft key or the Centre key . Memory status (Menu 2.7) Y ou can check how many names and numbers are stored in Phonebook, in both the SIM card and the phone’s memory .
Phonebook 70 SDN (Service dialling numbers) (Menu 2.9) Y ou can view the list of Service Dial ling Numbers (SDN) ass igned by your ser vice provi der . These numbers include emerge ncy numbers, directory enquiries, an d v o ic e m a il nu m be rs. 1. Scroll through the numbers by pressing the Up or Down key .
71 Organiser The organiser feature enables you to: • set an alarm so that the phone rings at a specific time, for example, to remi nd y ou of an appointment. • view the calendar and organi se your schedule. • define a list of things to do . • record a voice memo.
Organiser 72 T o set an alarm: 1. Choose the type of alarm to be set and press the Select soft key o r the Centre key . 2. Enter the time for the alarm to s ound. Note : Y our phone is preset to a 12-hour form at. T o change the format, se e page 119 .
Organiser 73 Calendar (Menu 3.2) With the calendar feature , you can: • consult the calendar and check y our memos. • write memos to keep track of y our schedule. • set an alarm to act as a reminder . Consulting the calendar When you select the Calendar menu, the calendar displays wit h today’ s date highlighted.
Organiser 74 2. Press the Centre key . An empty memo screen d isplays al lowing you to enter your memo. 3. Ent er your memo and t hen press t he OK soft key or t he Cen tr e key . Note : For further details about how to enter characters, see page 34. Y ou are asked if you wish to set an al arm.
Organiser 75 Viewing a me mo When you select a day on which more than one memo exists , the lates t memo for that day di splays. In that case, press the Up or Down ke y to scroll to the previous or next memo. Press the New soft key or t he Centre key to ad d a new memo for the day .

Organiser 77 Mark : allows you to change the status of a task as completed as of the current time and date. Edit : allows you to edit an existing task. Y ou can change the text, priority , and/or deadline for the task. Sort : allows yo u to sort the ex isting tasks by priority or status.
Organiser 78 3. Enter the second number . 4. T o view the result, press the Centre key . 5. Re peat ste ps 1 to 4 as m a n y tim e s as required. Voice memo (Menu 3.5) Y ou can record voice m emos. After recording , you can send the memo to other people usi ng the i-MMS featur e.
Organiser 79 5. Press the C key to clear the default name, if necessary , and enter a name for the m emo. For further d etails about how to enter characters, see p age 34. 6. Press the OK soft k ey or the Centre key . The memo is saved and then the display shows the memo in formation.
Organiser 80 Delete all (Menu 3.5.3) In this menu, you can delete all of yo ur voice memos. When a confirmation message appears, press the Yes soft key or th e C en tr e key . When the displays asks for confirmation again, press the Yes soft key or th e C en t re key one mor e time.
81 Messages Using the Messages menu, you can use v ari ous message features, such as: • text messages •v o i c e m a i l • broadcast messages Text messag es (Menu 4.1) Short Message Serv ice (SM S) allo ws y ou to send and receive short text me ssages to and from other GSM mobile phones.
Messages 82 Inbox (Menu 4.1.1) This message box is used to store messages that you have received. When you enter this menu, the list of messages in the box displays with the senders’ phone numbers or names, if available in y our Pho neb ook.
Messages 83 Move to sim : allows yo u to mov e the message from the ph one’s memory to the SIM card. This option is only available for messages stored in the phone’s memory . Select objects : allows yo u to sav e media items, such as sounds or images, from the message into your phone.
Messages 84 Move to phone : allows you to move th e message from the SIM card to the phone’ s memory . This option is only av ailable for messages stored on the SIM card. Move to sim : allows yo u to mov e the message from the ph one’s memory to the SIM card.
Messages 85 2. When you finish entering the m essage, press the Options soft key or the Centre key . T he following opti ons a re a v ailable: • Send only : allows you to send the message. The message is then deleted afte r sending. • Save and send : allows you to first sav e a copy of the message and then sends the message.
Messages 86 Creating a message usi ng options 1. Create a message. 2. Press the Options soft key or the Centre k e y . 3. Select one of the follow ing options by pressing the Up or Down key and press t he Select soft key or t he Cen tr e key: • Text formatting : allows you to format the style of the text.
Messages 87 • Add from bookmarks : allows you to add a web page address stored in your Bookm arks list. Select one from th e list. • Language : allows you to change the language to be used in T9 input m ode. Select the language to be used. 4. Complete the message, and send or sav e it by following the procedure from step 2 on page 85.
Messages 88 Send : allows y ou to retrieve the message template. Once you have completed the message, you can send, save and send, or simply save it. F or f urther details about how to send a message, see page 84. Delete : allows y ou to delete the message t emplate.
Messages 89 V alidity period : allow s y ou to set the le ngth of time your text messages are stored i n the me ssage centre while atte m pts are m ade to d eliv e r them .
Messages 90 Delete all (Menu 4.1.6) This menu allo ws you to delete al l o f the text messages in each message box separately, an d all broadcast mess ages. You can also dele te all of your messages at one time. 2. Press the Delete soft key to delete the marked messages.
Messages 91 Voice mail (Menu 4.2) This menu allows you to access your v oice mailbox, if your network supports this service. The following options are availab le: Connect to voice server : before us ing the voice mail feature , you must enter the voi ce server number obtained from your service pro vider .
Messages 92 The following options are availab le: Read : lets you view the received broadcast messages. The Volatil e box displa ys broadcast messages from the network, but loses its contents as soon as the phone is switched off . Scroll through the message by using the Up and Down keys.
93 i-mode Using this menu, you can use various features related with the i-mode connections, such as: • i-mode browser • i-mode mail and m u ltim edia messa ge servic es • Java applications Note : Y ou can quickly access this menu by pressing the i-mode soft key in Idle m ode .
i-mode 94 Menu (Menu 5.1) It is extremely simple to connect to i-mode. Just choose Menu and then Main Menu, and enjoy unique services. Get well informed, communicate, have fun, and mak e any transac tion quick and easy with a simple press of a button.
i-mode 95 Using brow ser menu opti ons V arious menu options are av ailable when you are using the i-mode browser . T o access a menu option: 1. Press the Menu soft key . A menu list displays. 2. Highlight a menu by pressing the Up or Dow n key . 3. Select an option by pressing the Centre key .
i-mode 96 Reload : updates the data on the current w eb p age. Page info : shows the URL address of the current web page. Create message : allows you to send the URL addres s of the cur rent pa ge to other people by using an i-m a il. F or further details, see the nex t section.
i-mode 97 3. Press the Down key to highlight the Subject field and press the Centre key . 4. Enter a mail subject and press the Centre key . Note : In addition to 4 normal input mode s, y ou can use Pictographic mode in the Subject and Message field s, which allows y ou to enter a variety of pictogram s to enhance your text.
i-mode 98 10. Press the Down k ey to highlight Send and press the Centre key . Note : If the phone enco u n te rs a prob le m w hi le sending a mail, it wi ll sa ve the m a il in th e Draft box.
i-mode 99 Change to Cc : allows you to change a T o or Bcc address to a Cc address. Change to Bcc : allow s you to change a T o or Cc address to a Bcc address. Del. address : allows you to delete the currently selected address. Attach heade r : allows you to attach a header specified in the Edit header option of the Mail settings to the mail.
i-mode 100 • Delete : deletes the highlighted part of the text. • Copy all : copies the whole text you have created. • Save address : (dependent on your SIM card) allows you to extr act the destination number and URL, e-mail addresses, or phone numbers from the receiv ed message text.
i-mode 101 Creating and sending an i-MM S m e ssage 1. When the To1 field is highlighted , press th e Centre key . 2. Enter a destination addres s or phone number and press the Centre key . For further d etails about entering text, see page 34. 3. Press the Down key to highlight the Subject field and press the Centre key .
i-mode 102 • Remove text : removes the entered text. • Add image : allows you to add an image. • Remove image : remov es the added image. • Add audio : allows you to add an audio c lip. When you add an audio , the icon appears on the top right of the slide.
i-mode 103 Slice : the image is scaled so that the shorter side of the height or width, fits the corresponding side of the display area. This may cut off part of the display . • Options : allows you to change the displa y time for each items on the messag e, such as a slide, text, an image, and an audio clip.
i-mode 104 Inbox (Menu 5.2.3) In this box, y ou can acce ss the lis t of i-mails and i- MMS messages you ha ve received. Note : When the Inbox reaches its maximum limi ts, a new mail or an MMS message will overwri te old mail or message that has already been read.
