Getting star ted 21 Installing the batter y Inser t the included batter y . 1 Slide the latch and open the flap . Do not bend or twist the batter y cov er exc essively . Doing so may damage the cov er . 2 Inser t the batter y . Make sure to pr operly align the battery ’ s gold-coloured contacts when inser ting the battery .
Getting star ted 22 3 Replace the flap and slide the latch. Removing the batt er y T urn off the device bef ore r emoving the battery . I f you r emove the battery when the device is turned on, the device may malfunction. Slide the battery lock to release the battery , and then pull it out.
Getting star ted 23 Char ging the ba tter y Befor e using the device for the first time or when the ba tter y has been unused f or an extended period, you must char ge the battery . Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers , batteries, and cables. Unappr oved chargers or cables can cause the battery to explode or damage the device.
Getting star ted 24 • The device can be used while it is char ging , but it may take longer to fully char ge the battery . • If the device receiv es an unstable power supply while charging , the touch screen may not function. If this happens, unplug the charger from the devic e.
Getting star ted 25 Reducing the batter y c onsumption Y our device provides options that help y ou save ba tter y power . By customising these options and deactivating featur es in the background, y ou can use the device longer between charges: • When you ar e not using the device, switch to sleep mode b y pressing the P ower butt on.
Getting star ted 26 1 Slide the latch and open the flap . 2 Inser t a memor y card with the gold- colour ed contacts facing upwar ds. 3 Push the memory card into the slot until it locks in plac e. 4 Replace the flap and slide the latch. Removing the memor y card Befor e removing the memory card, first unmount it f or safe remo val.
Getting star ted 27 F ormatting the memor y card A memor y card f or matted on a c omputer may not be c ompatible with the device . F ormat the memor y card on the device . On the Home screen, tap Apps → Settings → Mo re → Stor age → F ormat SD card → F ormat SD card → Erase ev er ything .
Getting star ted 28 T urning the devic e on and off When turning on the device f or the first time, f ollow the on-screen instructions to set up your device .
Getting star ted 29 S witching to silent mode Use one of the f ollowing methods: • Rotate the Z oom button anti-clock wise until it switches to silen t mode. • Pr ess and hold the Po wer button, and then tap Mute or Vibrate . • Open the notifications panel at the top of the scr een, and then tap Sound or Vibrate .

Basics 31 U sing the touch scr een Use only fingers to use the t ouch screen. • Do not allow the touch scr een to come int o contact with other electr ical devices .
Basics 32 T apping and holding T ap and hold an item for mor e than 2 seconds to access a vailable options. Dragging T o mov e an icon, thumbnail, or preview to a new loca tion, tap and hold it and drag it to the target position. Double -tapping Double -tap on a webpage or image to zoom in a part.
Basics 33 F licking Flick left or right on the Home screen or the A pplications screen t o see another panel. F lick up or down to scr oll through a webpage or a list, such as contacts. Pinching Spread two fingers apart on a webpage, map , or image to zoom in a part.
Basics 34 Rotating the screen Many applications allo w display in either por trait or landscape orientation. Rotating the device causes the display t o automatically adjust to fit the new scr een or ientation. T o prev ent the display from r otating automatically , open the notifications panel and deselec t Screen rota tion .
Basics 35 P anning to mov e T ap and hold an item, and then mov e the device to the left or right to mov e the item to another panel on the Home screen or the Applications scr een. P anning to bro wse When an image is zoomed in, tap and hold a point on the scr een, and then move the device in any dir ec tion to bro wse the image.
Basics 36 Sw eeping Sw eep your hand across the scr een to capture a screenshot. The image is saved in Galler y → Screenshots . C overing Co ver the screen with a palm t o pause media playback .
Basics 37 Notifications Notification icons appear on the status bar a t the top of the screen t o report calendar events, device status , and more . Drag down from the status bar to open the notifica tions panel. Scroll the list to see additional aler ts.
Basics 38 Home screen The Home screen is the starting point to access all of the devic e ’ s featur es. It displays indicator icons, widgets , folders, and others . The Home screen can ha ve multiple panels. T o view other panels, scroll left or right.
Basics 39 Rearranging panels Adding a ne w panel T ap → Edit page → . Moving a panel T ap → Edit page , tap and hold a panel preview , and then drag it to a new location. Removing a panel T ap → Edit page , tap and hold a panel preview , and then drag it to the rubbish bin.
Basics 40 Using widgets Widgets ar e small applications that provide c onv enient functions and information on your Home screen. T o use them, add widgets from the widgets panel to the Home screen. The widgets av ailable may vary depending on the region.
Basics 41 Applica tions screen The Applications scr een displays icons f or all applications, including an y new applications installed. On the Home screen, tap Apps to open the Applications scr een.
Basics 42 Sharing applications Share downloaded applica tions with other users via email, Bluetooth, or other methods . T ap → Share app , select applications, tap Done , and then select a sharing method. The next steps var y depending on the method selected.
Basics 43 Changing the ke yboard la yout T ap , and change the keyboard la yout. On the 3x4 keyboard , a key has three or f our charac ters. T o enter a character , tap repeat edly the key corresponding to the char ac ter . Break to the next line. Delete a preceding character .
Basics 44 C onnec ting to a W i-F i network Connect the device to a W i-Fi network to use the Internet or shar e media files with other devices. (p . 137) T urning W i-Fi on and off Open the notifications panel, and then tap Wi - Fi to turn it on or off .
Basics 45 Setting up acc ounts Google applications, such as Pla y Store, r equire a Google account, and Samsung Apps requir es a Samsung account. C reate Google and Samsung acc ounts to ha ve the best experience with the device .

Basics 47 C onnec ting with S amsung Kies Samsung Kies is a computer application that manages media cont ents and personal information with Samsung devices . Download the latest Samsung Kies from the Samsung website . 1 Connect the device to the comput er using the USB cable.
Basics 48 Securing the device Pr event others from using or acc essing personal data and information stored in the devic e by using the security features . The device requir es an unlock code whenever unlocking it. Setting a pattern On the Applications screen, tap Settings → My device → Lock scr een → Screen lock → P attern .

Camera: Basic functions 57 T ips for taking clearer phot os Holding the camera c orrec tly Make sure not to block the scr een, lens, flash, or micr ophone. Make sure not to expose the lens t o direct sunlight. This ma y discolour the image sensor , or cause it to malfunc tion.
Camera: Basic functions 58 Reducing camera shak e Set the Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS) option to reduc e camera shake optically . (p . 55) Keeping the subject in focus F ocusing on the subjec t may be difficult in the f ollowing conditions: • When the contr ast between the subject and background is low .

In this mode, the camera r ecognises surrounding conditions and aut omatically adjusts factors that contribute t o exposure , including the shutter speed, aper ture value , metering, and white balance .
Camera: Shooting modes 62 Smar t mode suggest Use this to take phot os with one of the smar t modes that the camera automatically suggests . T ap MODE → Smar t → Smar t mode suggest . Half-press the Shutter butt on, selec t a mode from the suggested list, and then pr ess the Shutter button t o take a photo .

Camera: Shooting modes 72 F irew orks Use this to take phot os of fireworks . T ap MODE → Smar t → F ireworks . The image may appear blurry due to the slow shutter speed when the camera takes photos. Camera: Shooting modes 74 Aper ture priority mode In this mode, the camera automatically calcula tes shutter speed ac cording t o the aper ture value you choose . Y ou can adjust the depth of field (DOF) by changing the aperture value . This mode is useful f or tak ing por traits and landscape shots .
Camera: Shooting modes 75 Shutter priority mode In this mode, the camera automatically adjusts the aperture value acc ording to the shutt er speed you choose . This mode is useful for taking photos of fast-moving subjects or for creating tr acer effects in a photo .

Camera: Shooting options and settings 79 WB (light sour ce) White balance r epresents the light sourc e that influences on the colour of a photo . The colour of a phot o depends on the type and qualit y of the light sour ce.

Camera: Shooting options and settings 81 Metering The metering mode r efers to the method the camer a measures the quantity of light. The camera measur es the amount of light in a scene, and in man y of its modes, uses the measurement t o adjust various settings.

Camera: Shooting options and settings 83 F lash T o take a realistic phot o of a subject, the amount of light should be constant. When the light source v aries, you can use a flash and supply a c onstant amount of light. Pr ess the Flash release butt on to open the flash.

Media 90 Pla ying videos Video files sho w the icon on the pr eview . Selec t a video to wat ch it and tap . T rimming segmen ts of a video Selec t a video and tap → T rim . Move the start bracket to the desired starting point, move the end bracket to the desir ed ending point, and then sav e the video.
Media 91 Modifying images When viewing an image, tap → Edit → Photo W izard and use the follo wing functions: • Rot ate : Rotate the image . • Crop : Crop the image . • Colour : Adjust the brightness , contrast, or saturation of the image .
Media 92 Setting as wallpaper When viewing an image, tap → Set as to set the image as wallpaper or to assig n it to a contact. T agging fac es When viewing an image, tap → Settings , and then tick F ace tag . A yellow fr ame appears around the r ecognised face on an image .
Media 93 P aper Ar tist Use this application to make images look like illustr ations with fun effects or frames . T ap P aper Ar tist on the Applications screen. This application ma y not be available depending on the r egion. Use ar tistic tools t o edit an image.
Media 94 V ideo Use this application to pla y video files. T ap V ideo on the Applications screen. • Some file formats are not supported depending on the device's software. • Some files may not play pr operly depending on the encoding method used.
Media 95 Using P opup V ideo play er Use this f eature t o use other applications without closing the video play er . While wat ching videos, tap to use the pop-up player . Spread two fingers apart on the screen to enlarge the pla yer or pinch to r educe it.
Media 96 Inser ting text in a video Selec t a frame to edit , enter text by using te xt inser tion options at the right pane, tap Done , and then sav e the video .
Media 97 Crea ting stor y albums Creat e stor y albums by selecting images from Galler y or images sor ted by tag information. T ap , and then select an option. Select images from Galler y . Charging the battery Before using the device for the first time or when the battery has been unused for extended periods, you must charge the battery. Use only Samsung-approved chargers, batteries, and cables. Unapproved chargers or cables can cause the battery to explode or damage the device.
After fully charging, disconnect the device from the charger. First unplug the charger from the device, and then unplug it from the electric socket. 14 Do not remove the battery before removing the charger. This may damage the device. [EJ• To save energy, unplug the charger when not in use.
• You can charge the device by connecting it to a computer with the supplied USB cable. You may not charge the device when it is connected to other devices, such as a set - top box or audio equipment. • Overcharging or over-discharging batteries may shorten their lifespans.
Turning the device on and off When turning on the device for the first time, follow the on-screen instructions to set up your device. 16 Press and hold the Power button for a few seconds to turn the device on. To turn the device off, press and hold the Power button for a few seconds, and then tap Power off.
Attaching a hand strap Slide the small end of a hand strap through the slot and push the large end through the loop. Do not swing your device by the strap. This may cause injury to yourself or others or damage to your device. Using Camera Turning the camera on and off Use the camera application to take photos or videos and share them.
Taking photos Half-press the Shutter button to focus on the subject. When the subject is in focus, the focus frame turns green. Press the Shutter button to take the photo. 18 Or, tap the image on the preview screen where the camera should focus. When the subject is in focus, the focus frame turns green.
Zooming in or out You can take close-up photos or videos by adjusting the zoom. Rotate the Zoom button clockwise or spread two fingers apart on the screen to zoom in. Rotate the Zoom button anti-clockwise or pinch your fingers together on the screen to zoom out.

Tap Done, and then enter a file name. Sharing files Select a file and tap~- Select a sharing method and follow the on-screen instructions .
Basics Using applications Launch applications and take full advantage of features on your device. Access the applications screen and select an application icon. Using Internet Connect to the internet via Wi-Fi. Launch the Internet application to access webpages.

Upgrading with Samsung Kies Launch Sam sung Kies and connect the device to the computer. Samsung Kies automatically recognises the device and shows available updates in a dialogue box, if any. Click the Update button in the dialogue box to start upgrading.

Creating a New Google Account In order to utilize your device to the fullest extent, you will need to create a Google rM Account when you first use your device. With a Google Account, Google applications will always be in sync between your camera and computer.

This device can synchronize with multiple accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Corporate email, and Google . When you synchronize your camera with these accounts, each account creates a separate contact entry in the Contacts list.

Kies via Wi-Fi Kies via Wi-R allows you to sync your PC wirelessly wrth your device provided they are both on the same Wi-R network. You can view and share videos, photos, music, ringtones, and more. 1. From your PC, download the Samsung Kies application if you don 't already have it.

Default notifications This option allows you to set the notification that will sound for notifications and alarms .

Battery See how much battery power is used for device activities. 1. From a Home screen, tap a -+ Settings-+ Battery. The battery level displays in percentage. The amount of time the battery was used also displays. Battery usage displays in percentages per application .
3. To swrtch the order of the lists displayed in the Downloaded tabs, press · -+ Sort by size or Sort by name. 4. To reset your application preferences, press -+ Reset app preferences. Note: This will reset the preferences for disabled apps, disabled app notifications, default applications for actions, and background data restrictions for apps.
Location Services The Location services settings allow you to set up how the camera will determine your location and the sensor settings for your camera.
• Weather displays the current area weather on the Lock screen. Touch and slide the slider to the right to tum it on -. Tap and set both the temperature units (For C) and a refresh time. • Ripple effect activates/deactivates the ripple effect on the lock screen when you tap it • Help text shows help information on the Lock screen.
Make passwords visible When enabled, password characters display briefly as you touch them while entering passwords. 1. From the Home screen, tap g -+ Settings -+ Security. 2. Tap Make passwords visible to create a checkmark and enable or disable the display of password characters.

Warning! Perfonning a Factory data reset will erase all data from your device and internal SO card, including your Google account, system and application data and settings, and downloaded applications. It will not erase current system software, bundled applications, and external SO card files such as music and photos.
4. Tap Sync now to synchronize your account or tap Sync all to synchronize all your accounts. Tap Cancel sync to stop the synchronization. 5. Tap Settings to access your account settings. Motion The Motion settings allow you to set up various Motion activation services.

94 • Desktop backup password: allows you to protect your desktop with a backup password ID. • Stay awake: with the Stay awake option enabled, your screen will never sleep while you are charging the camera. • Protect SD card: requires apps to ask your permission before accessing data on your SO card.
• Limit background processes: sets the number of processes that can run in the background. • Show all ANRs: displays a prompt when applications running in the background are not responding.
Software Update The Software Update feature enables you to use your device to connect to the network and upload any new device software directly to your camera. The camera automatically updates with the latest available software when you access this option.
Section 9: Connections This section describes the various connections your camera can make including accessing the Internet with your Browser, Wi-R, Bluetooth, and Connecting your PC. Internet The Browser is your access to the mobile web. This section explains how to navigate the Browser and introduces you to the basic features.
• Desktop view: allows you to assign the browser to display the current page in the desktop view (to closely mimic the display as it would appear on a desktop computer). • Save for offline reading: allows you to store the current page in memory so that it can be read later even if you loose your Internet connection .
Going Incognito The incognito feature allows you to view Internet sites outside of the normal browsing. Pages viewed in this incognito window won't appear within your browser history or search history, and no traces (such as cookies) are left on your device.
3. Tap a bookmark to view the webpage, or touch and hold a bookmark for the following options: • Open: Opens the webpage of the selected bookmark. • Open in new window: Opens the webpage in a new window . • Edit bookmark: Allows you to edit the name or URL of the bookmark.

• Allow multiple tabs per app: Allows you to use multiple navigation tabs per application. • Enable plug-ins: Allows the download of plug-ins such as Adobe Flash. • Default storage: Allows you to set your default storage to Device or Memory Card.

Bluetooth About Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range communications technology that allows you to connect wirelessly to a number of Bluetooth devices, such as headsets and hands-free car kits , and Bluetooth-enabled handhelds, computers, printers, and wireless devices.
To access the Bluetooth Settings menu: 1. From the Home screen, tap HI ~ Settings. 2. Verify your Bluetooth is ON - . 3. Tap Bluetooth. To change your Bluetooth name: 1. From the Bluetooth settings page, press Rename device. 2. Enter a new name. 3. Tap OK to complete the rename process.
Note: Due to different specifications and features of other Bluetooth-compatible devices, display and operations may be different, and functions such as transfer or exchange may not be possible with all Bluetooth compatible devices. Note: Pairing between two Bluetooth devices is a one-time process.
Sending Contacts via 8/uetooth Depending on your paired devices' settings and capabilities, you may be able to send pictures, Contact information, or other items using a Bluetooth connection. Note: Prior to using this feature, Bluetooth must first be enabled, and the recipient's device must be visible.
Note: If you are a Windows XP user, ensure that you have Windows XP Service Pack 3 or higher installed on your computer. Also, ensure that you have Samsung Kies 2.0 or Windows Media Player 1 0 or higher installed on your computer. Connecting as a Storage Device You can connect your device to a PC as a removable disk and access the file directory.

AIIShare Play/Group cast AIIShare Cast (with Hub accessory) A subset feature of AIIShare Play , this allows you to mirror photos and multimedia presentations with other members of your current Wi-R group. Users must be on the same Wi-Fi and provide an access code to join the group.
Configuring AI/Share Settings The AIIShare Play TM application must first be configured prior to its initial use . You must setup parameters such as connected Wi-Fi, Items to share, source server address, and external device acceptance rights. 1. From the Home screen, tap g ~ AIIShare Play < ~· 2.
