3 .3 < Getting St arted> 1 Make sure that the network setup for yo ur machine is completed. (Page 3.1) All applications should be closed on your computer before beginning installation. 2 Insert the Printer Software CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
3 .4 < Getting St arted> Using the SetIP program This program is for the network IP setting using th e MAC address which is the hardware serial number of the netwo rk printer card o r interface. Especially , it is for the ne twork admini strator to set seve ral network IPs at the same time.
3 .5 < Getting St arted> Altitude adjustment The print quality is affected by atmospheric pressure, which is determined by the height of the machine above sea level. The following information will guide you on how to set your machine to the b est print quality or best quality of print.
3 .6 < Getting St arted> Changing the display language T o change the language that ap pears on the display , refer to th e following steps. 1 Press Machine Setup on the control panel. 2 Press Admin Setting . 3 When the login message appears, enter password with number keypad and press OK .
3 .7 < Getting St arted> 5 Press the function you want to change, and change its settings. For example, if you want to ch ange the default setting of the brightness & darkness for a copy job, press Copy > Darkness and adjust the brightness & darkness.
4 .1 < Loading ori ginals and pr int media> 4 Loading originals and print media This chapter introduces you how to load originals and print media into your machine.
4 .2 < Loading ori ginals and pr int media> T o load an original into the DADF: 1 Flex or fan the edge of the paper stack to separate the pages before loading originals. 2 Load the originals face up into the DADF . Make sure that the bottom of the original stack matches the paper size marked on the document input tray .

4 .4 < Loading ori ginals and pr int media> Media sizes supported in each mode Guidelines for selecting and storing print media When selecting or loading paper , envelopes, or other print materials, keep these guidelin es in mind: • Always use print media that conform with the specification s listed on page 4.
4 .5 < Loading ori ginals and pr int media> T ransparencies • T o avoid damaging the machine, use only transparencies designed for use in laser printers. • T ransparencies used in the printer must be able to withstand the machine’s fusing temperature.
4 .6 < Loading ori ginals and pr int media> Changing the size of the p aper in the paper tray T o load longer sizes of paper , such as Legal-sized paper , you need to adjust the paper guides to extend the paper tray . Note If you have in stalled an optiona l high capacity feeder, re fer to Quick Install Sheet to adjust paper size.
4 .7 < Loading ori ginals and pr int media> Loading p aper Loading p aper in tray 1, opt ional tray or optional high cap acity feed er Load the print media you use for the majority of your print jobs in the tray 1. The tray 1 can hold a maximum of 520 sheets of 80 g/m 2 (20 lb bond) plain paper .
4 .8 < Loading ori ginals and pr int media> In the multi-purpose tray The multi-purpose tray can hold specia l sizes and types of print material , such as transparencies, postcards, note cards, and envelopes. It is useful for single page printing on letterhead or colore d paper .
4 .9 < Loading ori ginals and pr int media> 4 Squeeze the multi-pu rpose tray pape r width guid es and adjust th em to the width of the paper . Do not force too much, or the paper will be bent, which will resu lt in a paper jam or skew . 5 After loading paper , set the paper type and size for the multi- purpose tray .
5 .1 < Copying> 5 Copying This chapter gives you informati on abo ut using your machine as a copy machine. This chapter includes: • Understanding the Copy screen • Copying originals • Chan.
5 .2 < Copying> Copying originals This is the norma l and usual proc edure for copyin g your originals. 1 Press Copy from the Main screen. 2 Place originals, face up, in th e DADF , or you can use the scanner glass with a single original document face down.
5 .3 < Copying> Reducing or enlarging copies Press the Basic tab > Reduce/Enlarge , then use left/right arrows to reduce or enlarge an image on th e paper . Press more to see the values. • Original(100%) : Prints texts or images the same size as origin als.
5 .4 < Copying> • Reverse 2 -> 2 Sided : Scans the both sides of originals and prints them on both sides of a paper . But the machine reverses the print out order of the originals. The machine prints the back sides of originals first, which means the front sides of originals is printed on the back side of a paper .
5 .5 < Copying> Using special copy features On the Adv anced t a b or the Image tab of the Copy screen, you can select specific copy features. ID card copying The machine prin ts one side of the o rig inal on the upp er half of the paper and the other side on the lower half without reducing th e size of the original.
5 .6 < Copying> Note If this option is g rayed out, select following options in the Basic tab to activate it; - Duplex to 1 -> 1 Sided - Reduce/Enlarge to Original(100%) - Paper Supply to Tr a y . 5 Press On to activate this feature. 6 Press OK .
5 .7 < Copying> 4 Press the Advanced tab > Booklet . 5 Press On to activate this feature, and select detailed settings for each option. • 1 Sided Original : Copys on one side of the paper . • 2 Sided Original : Copys on both sides of the paper .
5 .8 < Copying> This feature is helpful when copying originals containing color in the background, as in newspapers or catalogs. 1 Load the originals, face up, in the DADF . Or place a single original face down on the scanner glass. 2 Press Copy from the Main screen.
6 .1 < Faxing (Opti onal)> 6 Faxing (Optional) This chapter gives you informati on about using your machine as a fax machine. This chapter includes: • Prep aring to fax • Understanding the F.
6 .2 < Faxing (Opti onal)> • Address : Picks up the frequently used fax numbers direc tly from your machine or from SyncThru We b Service . (Page 6.7) • Duplex : Selects whether the machine send faxes one side of the original, both sides of the orig inal.
6 .3 < Faxing (Opti onal)> the right side of the screen, if yo u have stored frequently used fax numbers. 6 T o add a number , press Add No . 7 Press Star t on the control panel. The machine starts to scan and send a fax to destinations. Sending a fax manuall y (On Hook Dial) 1 Press Fax from the Main screen.
6 .4 < Faxing (Opti onal)> 5 Press On . 6 Enter Job Name using the keyboard on the display , select Start Tim e with le ft/right arrows. • If you do not enter Job Name , the machine assigns the job name as 'Fax Send Job xxx'. 'xxx' number are set in order .
6 .5 < Faxing (Opti onal)> Receiving faxes manually using an extension telephone This feature works best when you are using an extension te lephone connected to the EXT socket on the back of your machine . Y ou can receive a fax from someone you are talking to on the extension telephone, without g oing to the fax machine.
6 .6 < Faxing (Opti onal)> Press Fax > the Basic tab > Duplex . Use left/right arrows to toggle the value. • 1 Sided : Is for the originals that are printed on one side only . • 2 Sided : Is for the originals that are printed on both sides.
6 .7 < Faxing (Opti onal)> Storing individual fax num bers (S peed Dial No.) 1 Press Fax > the Basic tab > Indi vidual . • Edit : Changes the ID , Speed Dial No. , and Fax No. . • New : Creates the new Speed Dial No. . • Delete : Deletes the selected Speed Dial No.
6 .8 < Faxing (Opti onal)> Using the polling option Polling is used when one fax machi ne requests another to send a document. This is useful when the person with the original document is not in the office.
6 .9 < Faxing (Opti onal)> 3 Enter Remote Fax No , Mailbox No. , and Passcode . All these field are filled with informa tion from the sender . Note Y ou ca n use Delay Poll From Remote to poll a fax from the remote machine's Mailbox at certain time within 24 hours.
6 .10 < Faxing (Opt ional) > 5 Enter Mailbox No. and Passcode whi ch are set from Creating Mailbox in page 6.9. 6 Press OK . Faxing to a re mote Mail box T o fax and store the originals in a re cipient's Ma ilbox in this machine, you can use the Send to Remote feature.
6 .11 < Faxing (Opt ional) > 8 Press OK . 9 Press End Time and set the end date and time with left/right arrows. 10 Press OK . Adding document s to a reserved delay fax job Y ou can a dd additional documents to the delayed fax jo b which is saved in memory .
6 .12 < Faxing (Opt ional) > 6 Press Forward and enter the From and Destination Email option using the keyboard on the display . If you want the machine to print the report after forwarding a fax, set the Forward & Print .
7 .1 < Scanning> 7 Scanning Scanning with your machine lets you turn hard copy originals into di gital files. There are two ways to scan originals, one is using the USB cable to directly connect the machine with your computer , and the other is using the network scan feature which scan s and sends to a spec ific destination via the network.
7 .2 < Scanning> • Subject / Message : Subject and message of the email. • Remove All : Erases everythin g in the input area. • Address : Inputs the recipient's address just by pressing stored addresses. Y ou can store frequent ly used email addresses from your computer using the SyncTh ru Web Service .
7 .3 < Scanning> User authentication for network scanning T o send an email, FTP , SMB or Ne twork, you must register authorized local or network users using SyncThru™ Web Service.
7 .4 < Scanning> Note LDAP Referral : LDAP clie nt will search referral se rver if the LDAP server has no data to reply to query and if the LDAP server has a referral server . 11 Select Serach Name Order that you desire. 12 Check the box next to "From:" Field S ecurity Options .
7 .5 < Scanning> The default port number is 25. 8 Check the box next to SMTP Requires Authentication to require authentication. 9 Enter the SMTP server login name and password. 10 Click Apply . Note If the authentication meth od of SMTP server is POP3beforeSMTP , check the box next to SMTP Requires POP3 Before SMTP Authentication .
7 .6 < Scanning> 2 Press the initial alphabe t key of th e address you are looking for . Or press Search to specify the search criteria. When the search is completed, the screen displays the search results. 3 Press From and enter your email address and press OK .
7 .7 < Scanning> 3 Press Scan from the Main screen. Note If the authentication message shows, enter User Name and Password. This message shows only when the network administrator has se t the authentication in Sy ncThru Web Service . (Page 1 1.9) 4 Press NetScan .
7 .8 < Scanning> Changing the scan feature settings This part explains how to adjust the d ocument settings for each scan job, such as resolution, dup lex, original size, typ e, color mode, darkness, and more. The options you change will be maintained for a certain time, but after that period, the options wil l be reset to default val ues.
7 .9 < Scanning> • Gray : Uses the black gradation to display an image. 8 bits per pixel. • Mono : Displays an image in black and white. 1 bit per pixel. Darkness Y ou can select the degree o f darkness of the sca nned output. If your original document is light or faded, press the right arrow to make the output darker .
8 .1 < Basic printing> 8 Basic printing This chapter explains common printing tasks. Printing a document Y our machine allows you to print from various Windows, Macin tosh, or Linux applications. The exact steps fo r printing a document ma y vary depending on the application you use.
9 .1 < Using USB flash memory > 9 Using USB flash memory This chapter explains how to use an USB memory device with your machine. This chapter includes: • About USB memory • Understanding th.
9 .2 < Using USB flash memory > Insert an USB memory device into th e USB memory port on the side of your machine. Scanning to an USB memory device Y ou can scan a documen t and save the scanned image onto a USB memory device. When you scan a document, the machine uses the default settings such as the resol ution.
9 .3 < Using USB flash memory > Image t ab • Original T ype : Selects whether the original is text, text/photo or photo. (Page 9.4) • Color Mode : Selects the color options of the scan output. If the original is color and you want to scan in color , press Color Mod e .
9 .4 < Using USB flash memory > Original T ype Y ou can set the original docume nt type in order to enhance the quality of a document being scanned. Press US B > Scan to USB > the Image ta b > Original T y pe . Select the appropriate option and press OK .
9 .5 < Using USB flash memory > • OCR : Produces scanned output for OCR software. Y ou can expect the highest quality images. • Simple Scan : Used for a simple document with text only . The file size of output is small. • Custom : Applies the curre nt scan settings that you have chosen.
10 .1 < Machine status an d advanced setup> 10 Machine status and advanced setup This chapter explains h ow to browse the current status of your machine, and the method of setti ng for the advanced machin e setup. Please read this chapter carefully in order to use your machine's diverse features.
10 .2 < Machine status an d advanced setup> Browsing the machine’s st atus Y ou can browse the machine information an d validate some feature s of the machine. 1 Press Machine Setup on the control panel. 2 Press Machine St atus > the Machin e Info.
10 .3 < Machine status an d advanced setup> Power Saver Y ou can redu ce energy consumption by setting these features . Power Saver has two options, first Low Power Save turns of f the scanner lamp under the glass. Power Save turns off the fans within the machi ne except a core fan for the fuser unit.
10 .4 < Machine status an d advanced setup> Copy Setup For copy output, you can set up several o ptions in advance. 1 Press Machine Setup on the control panel. 2 Press Admin Setting . When the login messa ge pops up, enter password and press OK .
10 .5 < Machine status an d advanced setup> Ring to Answer Y ou can specify the number of times the machine rings befo re answering an incoming call. Receive Header Use this option to automatically print the page number , date and time of fax reception at the bottom of each page.
10 .6 < Machine status an d advanced setup> Network Setup Y ou may set up the network with the mach ine's touch screen. Before doing that, you must have the inform ation concerning the type of network protocols and computer system you use.
10 .7 < Machine status an d advanced setup> Option Description Authentication Mode Network Accounting It enables the a uthentication mode which is set from the Job Account menu i n the SyncThru™ Web Admin Service . Foreign Device Interface When you install the option al FDI kit, select On to activate it.

11 .1 < Maintenance> 11 Maintenance This chapter provides information for maintaining your machine. This chapter includes: • Printing a machine report • Monitoring the sup plies life • Fin.
11 .2 < Maintenance> Sending the toner reorder notification Y ou can set the machine to alert you that the ton er level is low and needs to be reordered. 1 Press Machine Setup on the control panel. 2 Press Admin Sett ing . When the login message pops up, then enter password and press OK .
11 .3 < Maintenance> Maint aining the toner cartridge T oner cartridge storage T o get the most from the toner cartri dge, keep the following guideline s in mind: • Do not remove the to ner cartridge fr o m its p ackage until ready for use. • Do not refill the toner ca rtridge.
11 .4 < Maintenance> 6 Hold the toner cartridge and ali gn it with the corresp onding slot inside the machine. Insert it back into its slot until it locks in place. 7 Close the front cover , then the side cover . 8 Make sure that the cover is securely latched and then turn the machin e on.
11 .5 < Maintenance> 6 Thoroughly roll the new cartridge five or six times to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge . Note If toner gets on your clothing, wipe it off with a dry cloth and wash clothing in cold water . Hot water sets toner into fabric.
11 .6 < Maintenance> 4 Pull the waste toner container out of the machine using its handle. 5 T urn the imaging unit locking levers outwards to release and ope n the inner cover . 6 Pull the used imaging unit out of the machine u sing the handle on its bottom.
11 .7 < Maintenance> 11 Labels inside the machine identify each imaging unit’s position. Holding the handles on th e new imaging unit, push th e imaging unit until it locks in place. 12 T urn the imaging unit locking levers inwards until it locks in place and close the inner cover.
11 .8 < Maintenance> 4 Push the lock lever up and pull the waste toner container out. Note When you pull out the waste toner container out of the machine, move the container carefully not to drop it from your hands. Make sure that you lay the waste toner container on a flat surface so that the toner does not spill.
11 .9 < Maintenance> Managing your machine from the website If you have connected your machine to a network and set up TCP/IP network parameters correctly , you ca n manage the mach ine via Samsung’s SyncThru W eb Service , an embedded web server .

12 .2 < Troubleshooti ng> Misfeed of exiting p aper 1 Remove the remaining documents from the DADF . 2 Open the DADF cover . 3 Open th e document i nput tray up wards and p ull the do cument gently out of the DADF . 4 Close the DADF cover and the document input tray .
12 .3 < Troubleshooti ng> 4 Remove the paper from the feed area by carefully pulling. 5 Close the white document background and the scanner lid. Th en load the removed pages back into the DADF . Clearing p a per jams When a paper jam occurs, the warming message appears on the display screen.
12 .4 < Troubleshooti ng> 2 Open th e guide in the directio n shown. 3 Carefully remove the misfed pa per in the direction show n. If the paper does not move when y ou pull, or if you do not see any paper in this area, stop and go to step 4. 4 Lift the front part of the tray up sl ightly to release the tray from the machine.
12 .5 < Troubleshooti ng> In the optional tray Note This part explains the method of removi ng the jammed paper in the optional tray 2. Please refer to the next method for other optional trays, since the met hod is same as the tray 2 1 Open the oute r cover in tray 2.
12 .6 < Troubleshooti ng> In the optional high cap acity feeder 1 Open th e outer cover of the high c apacity f eeder . 2 Open the inner cover of the high capacity feeder . 3 Pull the jammed paper out, in the direction shown, pul ling gently and slowly in order to avoid tearing the paper .
12 .7 < Troubleshooti ng> 7 Insert the paper tray and close the two covers. In the multi-purpose tray 1 If the paper is not feeding properly , pull the paper out of the machine. 2 Open and close the side cover . Pr inting automati cally resumes.
12 .8 < Troubleshooti ng> In the p aper inside the machine Note The fuser area is ho t. T ake care wh en removing paper from the machine. 1 Open the side cover . 2 Remove the jammed paper , in the directi on shown. If you do not see any paper in this area, go to step 3.
12 .9 < Troubleshooti ng> In the fuser area 1 Open the side cover . 2 Remove the jammed paper , in the directi on shown. 3 Close the side cover . Prin ting automatically resumes. In the duplex unit area If the duplex unit is not inserted correctly , paper jam may occur .
12 .10 < Troubleshoo ting> In the st acker (finisher) Paper jam in front of finisher 1 Open the stacker front cover . 2 Press right of 1c lever an d then push stacker to left. 3 Remove the jammed paper . 4 Slide in the stacker until you hear the sound ‘click’.
12 .11 < Troubleshoo ting> 4 Pull up on the stacker lever and then close the stacker front cover . Paper jam at exit of finisher 1 Gently pull the paper out through the exit area.
12 .12 < Troubleshoo ting> [xxx] toner cartridge is not compatible. Check userís guide The toner cartridge you have installed is not for your machine. Install a Samsung- genuine toner cartridge, designed for your machine. [xxx] toner cartridge is not inst alled.
12 .13 < Troubleshoo ting> Motor does not operate: [zzz]. Please turn off then on There is a problem in the control of motor unit. T urn the machine off and turn it on again.
12 .14 < Troubleshoo ting> Sensor failure: [zzz]. Call for service There is a problem in the sensor sig nal. T urn the machine off and turn it on again. If the problem persist s, please call for service. Shake [xxx] toner cartridge The toner supply is low .
12 .15 < Troubleshoo ting> Solving other problems The following chart lists some conditions that ma y occur and the recommended solutions. Follow the sugge sted solutions until the problem is corrected. If the problem persists, please call for service.
12 .16 < Troubleshoo ting> The machine does not print. (continued) The connection cable between the computer and the machine is defective. If possible, attach the cable to another comp uter that is working properly and print a job. Y o u can also try using a different printer cable.
