Maintenance _6 3 MAINTAINING THE CARTRIDGE Toner cartridge storage To get the most from the toner cartri dge, keep the following guideli nes in mind: • Do not remove the toner cartrid ge fr om its package until ready for use. • Do not refill the toner cartri dge.
64 _ Maintenance 4. Slide the toner cartridge back into the machine. 5. Close the front cover. Make sure the cover is securely latched. REPLACING THE TONER CARTRIDGE The machine uses four colors and has a d ifferent toner cartridge for each one: yellow (Y), ma genta (M), cyan (C), and black (K).
Maintenance _6 5 6. Place the toner cartridge on a flat surface, as shown, and remove the paper covering the toner cartridge by removing the ta pe. 7. Make sure that th e color of the toner cartridge matches the co lor slot and then grasp the handles on the toner cartri dge.
66 _ Maintenance 3. Press the green release handle to release the paper transfe r belt. Holding the handle on the paper transfe r belt , lift it out of th e machine. 4. Take a new paper transfer belt out of its package. 5. Holding the handle on the new paper tran sfer belt, align it with the slots on the inside of the front cover.

Open the inner cover using th e handle. 3. Open the inner cover using th e handle on it and carefully take the jammed paper out of the machine.

Troubleshooting _7 5 In the optional tray If paper is jammed in the optional T ray, follow the next step s to release the jammed paper. 1. Pull the optional Tray open. After you pull it all the way out, lift up the front part of the tray slightly to release the tray from the machine.

Refer to the tabl es belo w to understand the messages’ meaning and correct the problem if necessary. Messages and their meanings are listed in alphabetical order.
Troubleshooting _7 7 File Name Exist The file name you have entered already exists. Enter a different file name. File Name Over Limit The file names you can use are from doc001 to doc999. However, all file names are used already. Delete unnecessary files.

Enter the number manually using the number keypad or stor e the number or a ddress. Not Available Try Again Later Can not perform the task immediately because too many tasks are running at once.

Troubleshooting _8 1 Printing quality problems If the inside of the machine is dirty or paper has been loade d improperly, you may noti ce a reduction in p rint quality. See the table be low to clear the problem. The printer does not print PDF file correctly.
82 _ Troublesho oting Color or Black background If the amount of background shading becomes unacceptable: • Change to a lighter weight paper. See page 33. • Check the machine’s environment: very dry (low humidity) or high humid ity (higher than 80% RH) conditions can increase the amount of backg round shading.
Troubleshooting _8 3 Copying problems Solid Colo r or Black pages • The toner cartridge may not be installed properly. Remove the cartridge and reinsert it. • The toner cartridge may be defective and need replacing. Remove the toner cartridge and install a new one.
