34 _ Selecting and loading print media CHANGING THE SIZE OF THE PAPER IN THE PAPER TRAY To load different sizes of paper, such as Legal-si zed paper, you need to adjust the paper guides to extend the paper tray. To change the tray size to other si ze, you must adjust the paper length guide prope rly.

With a dry lint-free cloth, wipe away any dust and spilled to ner from the toner cartridges area and their cavities. 7. Holding the groove on the front of the imagi ng unit, push imaging unit in to the machine.
40 _ Maintenance MAINTAINING THE CARTRIDGE Toner cartridge storage Toner cartridges co ntain componen ts th at are sensitive to light, temperature, and humidity. Sams ung suggests u sers follow the recommendations to e nsure the optimum performance, h ighest quality, and longest life from your new Samsung toner cartridge.
Maintenance _4 1 4. Slide the toner cartridge back into the machine. 5. Close the front cover. Make sure the cover is securely latched. REPLACING THE TONER CARTRIDGE The machine uses four colors and has a d ifferent toner cartridge for each one: yellow (Y), ma genta (M), cyan (C), and black (K).
42 _ Maintenance 7. Make sure that th e color of the toner cartridge matches the co lor slot and then grasp the handles on the toner cartri dge. Insert the cartridge until it clicks into place. 8. Close the front cover. Make sure the cover is securely la tched, and then turn the machine on.
Maintenance _4 3 5. Pull the imaging unit ou t of the mach ine usin g the groove on the front o f the imaging unit. 6. Take a new imaging unit out of its package. 7. Holding the groove on the front of the imaging unit, push imaging unit in to the machine.
44 _ Maintenance REPLACING THE WAST E TONER CONTAINER When the life span of the waste t oner container has expired, the Smart Panel program window appears on the comp uter, indicating the waste toner container needs to be replaced. Ot herwise your machine stops printing.
Maintenance _4 5 MAINTENANCE PARTS To avoid print quality and paper feed proble ms resulting from worn parts, and to maintain your machine in top working condition the follow ing condition, the following i tems will need to be replaced after the sp ecified number of pages, or when the life span of each item has e xpired.
Troubleshooting _4 6 troubleshooting This chapter gives helpful information fo r what to do if yo u encounter an error. Troubleshooting _4 7 4. Push the fuser levers upwards. 5. Open the top cover and inner cover. 6. Holding the inner cover open, carefully take the jammed paper out of the printer. The inner cover will then close automatically. 7. Close the top cover. Make sure that it is securely closed.

See "Cleaning the inside" on pa ge 38. Dropouts If faded areas, generally rounded, occur randomly on the page: • A single sheet of paper may be defective.
Troubleshooting _5 1 Misformed characters • If characters are improperly formed and producing hollow i mages, the paper stock may be too slick. Try a different pap er. See page 31. Page skew • Ensure that the paper is loaded properly. • Check the paper type and quality.

Basic Printing 14 Printing to a file (PRN) Y ou will sometimes nee d to save the print data a s a file for yo ur purpose. T o create a file: 1 Check the Print to file box at the Print window. 2 Select the folder and assign a na me of the file and then click OK.
Basic Printing 15 Layout Tab The Layout tab provides options to adjust how the document appears on the printe d pa ge .
