12 Safety Safet y belts Three-point inert ia-reel s afety b elts are pro- vided for all s eats. The results of st udies show that it is eq ually important to wear safe ty belts in the rea r seat a s in the front se ats.

33 Safety Passenger Sensing Syst em Vehicles with a pass enger sen sing syst em have indi cator LEDs on the fasc ia. The indi - cator s will be lit du ring the system check when yo u turn yo ur ignition key to ST or ON. When t he syste m check is complete , eithe r the ON o r th e OFF LE D, wi ll be lit .
34 Safety The passen ger sen sing sys tem is des igned to turn off the right fro nt passeng er’s frontal airbag if: • the right fr ont pas senger s eat is unoccu - pied • the sy stem de termines.

37 Safety AIRBAG warning light WARNING • If the ai rbag readi ness light sta ys on afte r yo u st art you r ve hic le, it mean s the airbag s ystem may not be working prope rly. See p age 6 1. The ai rbags in your ve hicle may no t inflat e in a c rash, or the y could even inf late w ithout a crash.
38 Safety What Will You See Aft er an Airbag Infl ates? After an ai rbag i nflates, i t quickl y defl ates, so quic kly that so me pe ople may not e ven realize the airbag infla ted.
39 Safety AIRBAG servicing The airbag mus t be inspe cted as part of the normal se rvice pro gram b ut otherw ise may be rega rded as m aintenanc e-free.
40 Safety Frequently asked questions on function of airbags Do you stil l need to wear a safety b elt if ai r- bags are fitted ? Yes, alw ays! The airba g merely suppl e- ments t he car’ s normal safet y system.

44 Security Doors Door handles Pull the ha ndle t o open the door. If the do or is stuc k (e.g. i f frozen), h old the handle f rom ab ove to secure a better grip. Central locking Key / Remote contro l The key uni t consists of a mec hanical ke y with int egrated rem ote contro l.
45 Securit y Locking/unlocki ng the car When the c ar is locked and un locked t he theft alarm is a lso affec ted. Remote lo cking Press once on the c ontrol: all doors locked. The hazard warning ligh ts will flash on ce. The trunk/t ailgat e relea se swi tch on th e driver´s doo r will not work w hen all door s are locked.
46 Security If remote unloc king sh ould fail to w ork Unlock the front d oor with the key. To silence the al arm, inse rt the k ey into t he ign i- tion sw itch and turn it to the ON positi on. The car ca n now b e starte d. Conta ct a wor k- shop t o have th e sys tem che cked and repaired.
47 Securit y Child safety lock s The rear d oors a re equippe d with child safety l ocks th at are o perated by mea ns of a catch adjac ent to the door l ock. Inser t a key and turn the catch 45 ° clockwi se or counter clockw ise as indic ated by the label on the d oor.
48 Security Unlockin g The trunk lid i s sligh tly op ened/u nlocked using: • The b utto n on t he key • The trunk lid s witch on the insi de of t he drive r’ s door (if the car is un loc k ed and at a stan ds till ) Remote unlockin g is confirm ed by th e direc- tion ind icator s flashi ng three times.
49 Securit y Locking The tailgate is loc ked usi ng: • The butto n o n the key • The butto n on t he cen ter co nsole • The k ey in the driv er’s door .
50 Security Car alar m The ca r al arm (a nt i-th eft system ) is acti - vated/de activate d when t he ca r is locked /unloc ked by the rem ote control or by the key , see pag e 45. The ant enna for the ala rm system is locate d in the c enter c onsole.
51 Securit y Check to ensure that all the doors , plus trunk lid /tailga te and hoo d, are cl osed pr op- erly. If the fau lt persis ts (LED f lashing when another at tempt is m ade to ac tivate the car alarm by remote co ntrol), loc k the car using the key i nstead.
52 Security Alarm signals When the car al arm is a rmed, i t will be trig- gered if an y door, o r the trunk lid or h ood, is opened. The alar m will al so be trigger ed if an atte mpt is mad e to bypa ss or short-circ uit the ig ni- tion swit ch, or to disconne ct the battery.

77 Instruments and controls Wipers an d wash ers There are three inter mittent wi per po sitio ns. Moving the contr ol sta lk to the spring-l oaded positi on betw een 0 and 2 will produce a sin gle sweep of the wipe rs. The wi pers are de signe d for o ptimal c lean- ing at all driv ing spee ds.
78 Instru ments an d contr ols When the eng ine has b een switche d off, the control stal k must be moved to posi - tion 0 and back to po sition 1 to reac tivate the sensor. Set the sensiti vity us ing the control on the wiper st alk (the same control a s used for wiper d elay on cars not fitted with a rain s en- sor).
