3 Setup and C onnections 3 Getting st arted This manual is designed to get you started quickly . The first four sections of the manual show you how to get your TV Set Up and Connected, run the Interactive Setup, Program the Remote, and use all of the Features and Menus of your TV .
Setup and C onnections 4 Befor e Y ou Connect Protect against power sur ges: • Connect all components befor e plugging any power cor ds into the wall outlet. • T ur n off the TV and/or component before connecting or disconnecting any cables. • Make sur e all antennas and cables are properly gr ounded.
Setup and C onnections 5 The Ba sic Connection The basic connection below (TV and VCR) is the most common connection and is therefore used to illustrate a single component connection with your TV . For better sound and picture quality and multiple component connection information refer to the next section, Advanced Connections .
Setup and C onnections 6 Once you have made your connections you will want to program the TV to tune to the corr ect V ideo INPUT channel in order to see and hear audio and video from the component. Y ou will program this later in the Interactive Setup.

Setup and C onnections 8 How to V iew Y our Components T o watch the Satellite Receiver in this connection, press TV to put the remote control into TV mode, then press WHO • INPUT to scroll through the video input channels until you tune to VID1 (or SVID 1) input.
Setup and C onnections 9 Step 3: Connect the G-LINK Cable The G-LINK cable enables the GUIDE Plus+ system (the on-screen guide that lists what shows are on TV) to work with your VCR and/or cable box.
Setup and C onnections 10 Picture Quality If the picture appears to have a double or triple image or if you notice rings or halos around objects, you may have to adjust the color convergence. Details can be found under the Screen menu heading in the Features and Menus section of this manual .

Interactive Setup 14 Y ou can set up the GUIDE Plus+ system during Interactive Setup. Y ou can also access the GUIDE Plus+ menus by pressing menu on the remote, and selecting GUIDE Plus+ Menu. The GUIDE PI US + S ystem The next step lets you set up the GUIDE Plus+ system to display your local program listings, and control your cable box and VCR.
Interactive Setup 15 Select Ye s if the cable box changed to channel 9, or No if it did not. If you select No , the system will tr y another code. If the GUIDE Plus+ system cannot recognize either your cable box or VCR after several tries, a screen stating “ Cable Box (VCR) test failed.
Interactive Setup 16 Setting the Time The next step in the Interactive Setup lets you set the time of day . If your GUIDE Plus+ system has not completed its first download, you need to set the time. Once the system has completed its first download, it sets the time for you automatically and you may not see this screen.
Interactive Setup 17 SETUP Would you like to use a VCR with your TV? 1 Use TV with a VCR 2 Skip this step 1. Press MENU or OK to bring up the VCR1 choice list. SET VCR1 CHANNEL 1 Not connected 2 Channel 3 3 Channel 4 4 Video 1 Input 5 Video 2 Input 2.

Press MENU or OK to continue. Setting the DVD Channel (a uto tuning) The next step lets you set the DVD channel.
Interactive Setup 19 If Y ou Have Both a Satellite Receiver and a Cable Box Connected to the TV The remote cannot contr ol both a cable box and the satellite receiver . If you choose to have the r emote control the satellite receiver , you must then use your cable box remote to contr ol the cable box.

Using the Remote 21 How to use y our Universal Remote 1 2 3 4 5 1 2 Using the Remote 3 4 5 This section defines the buttons of the remote and how to program it to control other components. The universal remote can be programmed to control most brands of remote controllable VCRs, satellite receivers and cable boxes.
Using the Remote 22 Remote Buttons (0-9) Number Buttons Enters channel numbers and time settings directly though the remote control. T o enter a two-digit channel, press the two digits. T o enter a three-digit channel, press and hold the first digit until #-- appears, then add the second two.
Using the Remote 23 P AUSE If you ’ re operating a VCR or DVD Player with the remote control, press P AUSE when the disc or videotape is playing to pause playback. PIP (Picture-In-Pictur e) Brings up the small picture-in-picture window . Press again to remove the PIP window .

28 Fea tures and menus Menus and Contro l P anels Using the buttons on both the remote and front panel enable you to access and make changes to the Menus and Control Panels. Menus use the point and select rule to navigate, but control panels use a variety of methods to adjust features on your TV .
29 Fea tures and menus Numeric Entry A numeric entry control panel is used to enter numbers or letters. A pointer appears underneath the column you are changing. 1. Press the up arrow to enter a number in the column above the pointer . 2. Press the right arrow to move to the next column, then press the up or down arrow to enter a number .

The TV displays the word SAP when you tune to a program that is broadcast with SAP information.
31 Fea tures and menus Picture Pr esets Displays a choice list that lets you select one of four preset picture settings: Bright Lighting , Normal Lighting , Soft Lighting or Personal Picture Presets . Choose the setting that is best for your viewing environment and edit your Personal Picture Preset.
32 Fea tures and menus If you are unsur e of the differ ences among the modes, you may pr efer to leave the closed captioned mode set to CC1, which displays complete text of the program in the primary language in your ar ea. Closed Captioning Modes The TV offers eight closed-captioned modes, including four text modes.
33 Fea tures and menus Advanced Convergence After you have adjusted the color projection tubes as described previously , you can make finer adjustments to specific areas of the screen using the Advanced Convergence feature described below .
34 Fea tures and menus Auto Channel Search T ells the TV to search automatically for all the channels available through the antenna input. When the TV finds an active channel, it places it in the channel list; inactive channels (weak stations or channels with no signal at all) will be removed from the channel list.

43 Fea tures and menus About the GUIDE P I US + System The GUIDE Plus+ system is an interactive on-screen program guide that lists TV schedules for your area and allows your TV direct control of a cable box and VCR. Y ou must first set up the GUIDE Plus+ Menu system in order to view it (see the Interactive Setup section for more details).
44 Fea tures and menus Getting In & Out of the GUIDE Plus+ System T o enter the GUIDE Plus+ system: • Press GUIDE on the remote. There are three ways to exit the GUIDE Plus+ system: • Highlight a program and press OK to exit the GUIDE Plus+ system and tune to the channel.

Channels Y ou may customize the channel listing by enabling or disabling the display of certain channels.

51 Fea tures and menus PIP Buttons There are seven remote buttons that control the way the PIP window works: PIP Brings up the PIP window . Press PIP again to remove the window . Arrow buttons let you move the PIP window to dif ferent areas of the screen.
52 Fea tures and menus Channel Marker There are several indicators that come up when you press the TV , INFO, PIP or SWAP button. This display is called the Channel Marker . 12:01 Displays the current time. CC Displayed when Closed Captioning is available on the current channel.
53 Reference Troubleshooting T roubles sometimes are caused by simple “ faults ” that you can correct without the help of a service technician. If you experience any difficulty with your TV , check a few basic remedies before calling your service technician.
54 Reference No sound, picture okay • Maybe sound is muted. T ry pressing volume up button to restore sound. • Maybe speakers are turned off. Check the Audio Output and Speakers contr ol panel in the Audio menu.
55 Reference Care and Cleaning CAUTION: T urn OFF your TV before cleaning. Y ou can clean the TV as required, using a soft lint-free cloth. Be sure to occasionally dust the ventilation slots in the cabinet to help assure adequate ventilation. The TV ’ s screen may be cleaned with a soft, lint-fr ee cloth as well.
