Before y ou use th e power adapter, read all the instruc tions a n d c autionary markin gs in this ma nual, on th e power adapter, and on the product th at you w ill conn ect to the power adapter.

9 PREPARATION ADJUSTING OUTPUT V OL TAGE Warn ing: Your power adap ter provides d irect cu rrent (DC) voltage . Do not use it w ith devic es that a re not spec ificall y identifi ed as requiring D C volt age. Do not u se it with devi ces that r equire AC vo ltage.
10 • Review the power or ID plate on th e AC power adapter us ually used to po wer the dev ice. Loo k for the word “OUTPUT” follow ed by a nu mber and V DC. Exampl e: OUTPUT : 18V DC . If the p ower adapter or c omputer in dicates a “voltage range,” us e the volta ge that is closest to th e mid-rang e.
11 SELECTING THE ADAPT APLUG The pow er adapter com es with three Adaptaplugs. The i n- clude d colo rs and si zes ar e: • Blue — 5.5 × 2.1 mm • White — 5 .
12 INSTALLING THE ADAPTAP LUG Warn ing: To avoid da mage to the dev ice you a re using, make su re the Adaptaplu g is inst alled correc tly. If you hav e trouble i nstall ing it, take the devic e to be powe red (with al l its acces sories) and your pow er adapte r to yo ur loca l Ra- dioShac k store fo r assista nce.
13 Note: If t he polarity s ymbol i s not d isplaye d on th e devic e to be powe red, it migh t appear on an ID plate on the comput er power supp ly or the original po wer adapter (see “Compa tible Comp uter s” on Pag e 21) .
14 USING THE ADAPT ER After you hav e properly adj usted the outp ut voltage and in- stall ed the Adap tap lug , f ollow t hese st eps to us e yo ur adap t- er. 1. Insert th e Adaptaplug’ s tip i nto the D C input ja ck on the device to be powered. 2.
15 • If the gre en indica tor on the pow er adapter’s case does not ligh t, disconne ct the adapter from the dev ice being po wered, then chec k the Adapt aplug’ s connec- tion for t he correct ori entation.
16 REPLACING THE FUSE If the g reen indicator on the cigarette -lighter p lug does not light aft er disconnectin g the devi ce to b e powered, rem ove the cigare tte-lighter plug from the rec eptacle and check its fuse. To re move the fuse, turn the plug’s knurl ed knob (4) counterc lock wise, th en remov e the ti p cap (3 ).
17 T ROUBL ESHOOTIN G Some note book computers have pow er supplie s in excess of the rating of this p ower adap ter (30 watt s). In mo st cas es, this higher rati ng is used to both charg e a complet ely disch arged battery an d powe r the comp ute r at the sam e time.
18 • Complete ly recharg e the battery before us ing the com - puter . Use the pow er adap ter to cha rge the battery , but do not o perate t he comput er during charging. • If the b attery is ea sily remo vable, rem ove it from th e compu ter to elimi nate t he pow er requ irem ent fo r rechargi ng.
