6 BEFORE YOU BEGIN Please read this owner’s m anual carefully. It has been prepared t o help you with initial setup pro- cedures an d in t he eve r y day operat ion of your camcorder. SUPPLI ED A CCESSORIES Your camcorde r includes the following a ccesso- ries.
7 MOISTUR E CONDENSA TION Condensa ti o n inside the c amcorder can c ause tape j ams or vi deo head dam age. If the cam- corder senses m oisture, TAPE f las hes in th e viewfinder. If TA PE flashes in t he viewfinder, or when you first use y our camcorder after moving it from a cold area to a warm one, follow these steps.
8 QUICK ST ART To eliminate c omplicated adj ustments in m ost situations, this camcorder has fu lly automatic features f or focus, wh ite b alance, and shut ter speed. A ll you need to d o is press REC/P AUSE . The followin g steps outline the b asic proc edures for making a recording.
9 Notes: • T o protect the tape an d conserve battery power , the camcorder turns itself off if you pause the tape for mo re than 5 minute s. T o turn the camcorde r back on, pres s REC/ P AUSE .
10 SELECTING A POWER SOURCE You can po wer the camcorder fr om any of three sources — the sup plied battery pack, the s up- plied AC ada pter/charger, or your v eh icle’s b at- tery (wit h an optional DC adapter, not s upplied). Note: Your c amcorder has a built-in recharge- able battery in addition to t he battery pack.
11 At taching th e Batter y Pack to t h e Ca mcor der 1. Align the m arks on b oth sides o f the bat tery pack wi th the mark s on the sides of the camcorder . 2. Gently press the battery pack a gainst the camcorde r , then sli de the battery pa ck down until it c licks and lock s in place.
12 Bat tery Usage Hi nts • Recording with many starts and s tops, fre- quent zooming, and recording in low t e m- peratures might sho rten battery life. Be sure to sl ide POWER on t he camcorder t o OFF when not recording. • Do not use the ca mcorder with a lo w or dis- charged battery pack attached.
13 USING AN OPTION AL D C ADAPTER You can use a DC a dapter (CMC No. T16- CC70A, not supplied) to power your cam c order. Cautio n s: • Y our v ehi cle m us t hav e a 12-v olt, negative- ground electrical system . • The recomm ended DC ada pt er is spe cially designed for use with your camcorder .
14 PREP ARING THE CAMCORDE R FOR USE INSERT ING/R EMOVIN G A VIDEO CASSETT E You can open t he cassette compa rtment to in- sert/remove a video cas sette whenever a power source is connec ted to the camcorde r, whether or not the camc order is t urned on.
15 Set up Before you can u se the camc order, you must set up the viewfinder. 1. Rotate the viewfinder s upport until it stops, as show n. Cautio n : Th e viewfinder s upport rotates only 90°. Do not force i t past this po int. 2. Rotate th e eyepiece ab out 180° unti l it stops, as shown.
16 SETTING/CHANGI NG THE DA TE AND TI M E 1. Slide PO WER to CAMERA . The POWER indi ca tor lig h ts. 2. If the currently set dat e does not app ear in the viewfinde r , repea tedly press DA TE/TIME until the da te appears and the mon th’s digit flashes.
17 A TT A CHING THE SHOULDER STRAP The shoulder strap provides a convenie nt way t o ca rr y t he c amc o rd e r w hen i t is not i n us e. Y ou can also use it as a safet y strap when you use the cam corder. To attach t he s houlder st rap , slide POWER to OFF , then a ttach eac h end of the strap as shown.
18 SPECIAL VIDEO RECORDING FEA TURES AUTO FOCUSING The aut omatic f ocusing feature lets y ou conc en- trate on recordi ng great videos wi thout ha v ing to worry about whether or not they are properly fo- cused.
19 • For the best poss ib le resolution while using macr o focus, be sure to shoot in a well- lighted area. DIGIT AL ZOOM The cam corder’s dig ital zoom feature automat i- cally doubles t he magn ification of te lephoto shots while you use variable spe ed power zoom.
20 REVIEW This fe ature lets you quickly rev iew th e la st few seconds o f a rec ording. 1. During recording, pres s REC/P AU S E to s to p the tape. appears i n the viewfinder . 2. Press REVI EW . The t ape rewinds an d pla ys the last f ew second s of t he tape, then stops the tape where the recording e nds.
21 RECORDING T HE DA TE AND TIME ON A T APE You can sele c t a d at e / tim e recording option by repeatedly p ressing DA TE/T IM E . Each time you press D A T E/T IME , you see one of the following options: • and the date — the camcorder automatical ly records the date on the first 10 se conds of the f irst recording of the day .
22 T APE REM AINING During recording and playback, the camcorder displays a bar belo w the tape c ounter in t he viewfinder show ing the amount of tape le ft on the load ed cassette.

24 HINTS FOR MAKING BE TTER VIDEO T APES If you are not familiar with camera tec hniques, there are m any books ab out the su bject avail- able at y o ur local l ibrary. However, because the camcorde r is so simple t o use and tape c a n be used again and again, it i s inexpensive t o exper- iment and le arn as y ou go.
25 CAMCORDER M OVEMENT When you move the camcorder while recording, do so slowly and st ea dily. Too much move men t or fast mo vement mak e your rec ordings look awkward. A video cam era tripod (such as Ra dio Shack Cat. No. 16-2017, not supplied) is a worthwhile investment for top-quality mov ie making.

32 CONNECTING THE CAMCORDER T O A TV USING A TV FOR PLA YBACK There are m any different types of TV s and ways to connect them t o your c amcorder. Th is section describes the most common s et ups. Notes: • If your TV doesn’t m atch any of the exam- ples prov ided, contact y our local Ra dio Shack store for a ssistance.
33 Stan dard TV To connect the camcorder to a standard TV (with only VHF and U HF terminals), you ne ed an RF adapter kit (CMC No. T16-RF71A, not sup- plied).
34 5. Using the supplied 7 5-ohm ant enna c able, connect th e RF conv erter ’s OUT TO TV ja ck to the TV’ s VHF ante nna terminal. • If the TV ’ s V HF ant enna term inal is the round, 75-oh m type, conn ect the cable directly to t he t erminal.

39 • Do not use the cam corder on its side. The tape might not wind properl y and m ight jam . • Some small, portable tripods migh t be di f f i- cult to c onnect and might n ot be sturdy enough t o suppo r t your ca mcorder . Be sure to use only a st rong, stable tripod.
