4 ASSEMBL Y OPERA T OR’S POSITION (See Fig. 1) When right or left hand is mentioned in this manual, it means when you are in the oper ating position (standing behind tiller handles). Y our new tiller has been assemb led at the f actor y with e xception of those par ts left unassembled f or shipping purposes.
5 UNP A CK CART ON & INST ALL HANDLE (See Fig. 2) CA UTION: Be careful of exposed sta ples when handling or disposing of cartoning material. IMPORT ANT : WHEN UNP ACKING AND AS SEM BLING TILLER, BE CAREFUL NO T T O STRETCH OR KINK CABLE(S). • Cut cable ties securing handles.

7 FOR W ARD TINE CON TROL IN “OFF ” (UP) POSITION REVERSE CONTROL CHOKE CONTROL THRO TTLE CONTROL FOR W ARD TINE CON TROL IN “ON” (DO WN) POSITION TINE OPERA TION (See Fig. 5) FOR W ARD • Squeeze f orw ard tine control to handle. REVERSE • With f orward tine control “OFF” (up) position, pull back and hold re verse tine control.
8 T O TRANSPOR T CA UTION: Before lifting or trans por t ing, allow tiller engine and m uffl er to cool. Disconnect spark plug wire. Drain gasoline from fuel tank. AROUND THE Y ARD • Tip depth stake f orward until it is held b y the stak e spring. • Push tiller handles down, raising tines off the g round.
9 BREAKING IN Y OUR TILLER Break-in your belt(s), pulle ys and tine control bef ore y ou actually begin tilling. • Star t engine, tip tines off ground b y pressing handles down and engage tine control to star t tine rotation. Allow tines to rotate f or fi v e minutes .
10 GENERAL RECOMMEND A TIONS The warranty on this tiller does not co v er items that hav e been subjected to operator ab use or negligence. T o receive full value from the w arranty , operator m ust main tain tiller as instructed in this manual. Some adjustments will need to be made periodically to properly maintain your tiller .

13 TILLER T O ADJUST HANDLE HEIGHT (SEE FIG. 15) F actory assembly has provided lo west handle height. Se lect handle height best suited f or your tilling conditions . Handle height will be diff erent when tiller digs into soil. • If a higher handle height is desired, loosen the f our nuts securing handle panel to engine brack ets .
14 TINE OPERA TION CHECK (See Fig. 19) W ARNING: Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug to pre vent starting while chec king tine operation. F or proper tine operation, f orward tine control le v er m ust be against control body and all slack remo v ed from inner wire of control cable when control is in the “OFF” (up) position.

16 ST ORA GE ENGINE OIL Drain oil (with engine warm) and replace with clean oil. (See “ENGINE” in the Maintenance section of this man ual). CYLINDER(S) • Remov e spark plug. • P our 1 ounce (29 ml) of oil through spark plug hole into cylinder .
17 Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” properly . 2. See “T O ST ART ENGINE” in the Oper ation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se v eral minutes bef ore attempting to start. 4. Dirty air cleaner . 4. Clean or replace air cleaner car tridge.
