8 EXTENSION CORD SELECTION If an extension cord is used, make sure the conductor size is large enough to prevent excessive voltage drop which will cause loss of power and possible motor damage. A table of recommended extension cord sizes will be found in this section.
9 FOREWORD The Porter-Cable Model 6603 Shear is designed for cutting cold-rolled steel sheets up to 18 Ga. and stainless steel sheets up to 20 Ga. You can make both straight and curved cuts with a minimum radius of 7". The Shear removes a ¼ " wide continuous curl of waste material without bending or burring the finished workpiece.
10 TO LOCK the trigger switch “ON”, squeeze the trigger as far as it will go, push in the lock button and release the trigger. TO UNLOCK the lock button, squeeze the trigger and release, leaving the lock button free to spring out. NOTE: The lock button can be engaged only when the drill is running at maximum speed.
11 INSTALLING CUTTER BLADES NOTE: For Model 6605, change the side knives after they show a width wear pattern of fifty percent (50%).Swap the knives left to right and use them until the patterns meet. When the patterns meet, invert the left and right side knives and use them until they show a width wear pattern of fifty percent (50%).
12 SERVICING THE ECCENTRIC BEARING NOTE: For model 6603 only. Once every three months (depending on usage), remove the shear head from the power unit following the instructions in the "REPLACING CUTTERS" section of the manual. Disconnect the tool from the power source before dis- assembling.
KEEP TOOL CLEAN Periodically blow out all air passages with dry compressed air. All plastic parts should be cleaned with a soft damp cloth. NEVER use solvents to clean plastic parts. They could possibly dissolve or otherwise damage the material. Wear ANSI Z87.
