1 Introduction Thank you for pur chasing the P olaroid PhotoMA X PDC 1300 Digital Camera Creativ e Kit. This kit contains every thing you need to ent er the world of dig ital imaging.

3 Attaching the wrist strap Attac h the w rist strap to the camera by sliding the strap through the opening on the bottom of the camer a as shown. The wr ist strap includes a clip to use when removing the memor y card fr om the camera.

6 Polaroid PDC 1300 Digital Camera User’ s Guide Power Supply Y ou can operate the P olaroid PDC 1300 Dig ital Camera on battery power or with the A C adapter . T o co nser ve battery life, the camera shuts itself off after 3.5 minutes of inactivit y and the L CD shuts off after 30 seco nds of inactivit y .
7 2 Slide the cov er forward so that it can swing open ( b ). 3 Insert four AA -size batteries into the compartment. Mak e sure the + and – terminals are oriented c orrectly as shown inside the battery compart ment. Note: Do not mix old batteries with new batteries, or different types of batter ies together .

Using the Memory Card The images you tak e with your PDC 1300 camera are stored on a remo vable CompactFlash memor y card.
9 T o insert the memory card 1 T ur n the camera power off. 2 Open the memor y compartment as shown: 3 Carefully insert the memor y card into the slot. The card fits only one way . Mak e sure the card is pushed firmly into the slot. 4 Close the memor y compartment cov er .

11 Using the Camera Y ou must insert the memor y card before y ou can turn on the camera (see “U sing the Memory Card” on page 8). T o turn on the camera power 1 Slide the power switch on the r ear of the camera ( a ) all the way up t o turn on the camer a in RECORD mode; slide the powe r sw itch all the wa y down to activat e it in PLA Y mode.

13 T o set the date and time The camera recor ds a date and time with each photo . T o set the date and time: 1 Slide the powe r sw itch t o RECORD mode. The camera turns on in RECORD mode. 2 Pr ess the Men u Dial. The RECORD menu displays. 3 T ur n the M enu Dial to scr oll to the MENU icon.

Depending on which mode you switch it t o, the camer a displays one of the following L CD menus: • RECORD to tak e photos.

Changing camera settings The first time you turn on the camera, the camera settings allow y ou to take pictur es in most indoor and outdoor conditions.
16 Polaroid PDC 1300 Digital Camera User’ s Guide Pixel resolution The resolution setting re fers to the number of pix els in a digital photo. The higher the pixel resolution, the more pix els that are contained in y our photo .
17 Flash Choose how the camera flash is used. The default setting is Auto . Focusing distance Determine the distance fr om the camera at which a subject will be properly in focus. The default setting is Autofocus . Icon Flash setting The flash fires auto matically when needed.
18 Polaroid PDC 1300 Digital Camera User’ s Guide Digital zoom Zoom in on your subject when taking a phot o. For best results, use the LCD viewfinder w ith digital zoom. Self timer Set the camera self-timer . The self-timer applies to the ne xt picture y ou take.
19 Advanced Menu Set the following options: Managing stored images W hen you select the PLA Y menu, y ou can: • V iew photos stored on the memory card one at a time • V iew multiple photos as thum.

21 • Edit image : displa ys a larger version of the selected thumbnail. Y ou can delete or lock the image, or return to the multi-image view . Delete . Lock/unlock . Return to previous . • Return to full-sized image : closes the multiple- image view and displays single full-sized images.
22 Polaroid PDC 1300 Digital Camera User’ s Guide Locking photos Y ou can prevent phot os from being accidently delet ed by locking them: 1 W ith the PLA Y menu selected, turn the Menu Dial t o highlight the LOCK icon. 2 Pr ess the Men u Dial to select.
23 • Standard : Designate the print order of the display ed photo when it prints on its own page. Pr ess the Men u Dial to underscore the n umber next to the selection (the default is 0). Rotate the M enu Dial to change the numbers. Press the M enu Dial again to set the order .

25 T aking Photos The P olaroid PhotoMAX PDC 1300 Digital Camera Creativ e Kit c ontains ever ything you need to tak e photos and transfer them to y our computer wher e you can edit them, email them, print them, and stor e them. Y ou can take phot os using the optical view finder or using the LC D.
26 Polaroid PDC 1300 Digital Camera User’ s Guide 4 Pr ess the shutter button ( d ) halfwa y to focus the camera and measure the light level. The camera is ready to tak e a photo when the green LED indicator lights ( e ). Press the shutter butt on all the way down to tak e the photo.

29 T ransferring Photos to Y our Computer The following sections describe how to transfer images from the P olaroid PDC 1300 Dig ital Camera to your c omputer . The drivers for the P olaroid PDC 1300 Digital Camera are automatically installed with the P olaroid PhotoMAX Image Mak er Software included in your kit.

31 4 Connect one end of the A C power adapt er to the A C power t erminal on the camera and the other end of the cable to a grounded electrical outlet. 5 T ur n on your camera. 6 T ur n on your c omputer . The Status panel on your camera displays a PC message when the camera is properly connect ed to your computer .
32 Polaroid PDC 1300 Digital Camera User’ s Guide 9 Select an existing photo album fr om the drop-down list at the bottom of the page or select New to create a new photo album. A photo album is a file that y ou use to keep track of the photos y ou download from your camera.
33 The P olaroid PDC 1300 TW AIN software opens. From this dialog bo x, y ou can manage the photos in the camera ’ s memor y . Note: The TW AIN software can be used with other applications.

The cable will only connect one wa y . 2 Connect the rectangular USB cable t o the USB port on the computer .
35 3 Connect one end of the A C power adapt er to the A C power t erminal on the camera and the other end of the cable to a grounded electrical outlet.

37 T ransferring images to the computer W ith a cable connection established between y our computer and the PDC 1300 and the P olaroid PDC 1300 dialog bo x display ed, y ou can transfer images to your comput er . T o transfer images: 1 Ensure that the Photo tab is displa yed.

39 Problem Solution P olaroid PhotoMAX I mage Mak er Software does not see the PDC 1300 Digital Camera. • Ensure that the digital camera power is turned on and a PC message appears on the Status panel. U se the A C adapter when downloading images. • For serial port connections, connect one end of the serial cable to the computer serial port.
40 Polaroid PDC 1300 Digital Camera User’ s Guide Cannot take a photo . • Pr ess the shutter button do wn halfway to focus the camera. W ait until the LED indicator light is steady green. Press the shutter butt on all the way down to take a phot o.
41 The liv e picture in the L CD looks "jumpy . " • The L CD is being used in low light conditions. Increase the amount of light, or use the optical view finder to co mpose your photo . The flash doesn ’t work . • The flash is turned off.
42 Polaroid PDC 1300 Digital Camera User’ s Guide M y photo looks dark. • There was not enough light available when the photo was tak en. U se the Autoflash setting and increase the amount of lig ht (if possible). • The subject was too far a way from the camera.
