1 Chapter 1 Introduction Overview The KL9108 / KL9116 Hideaway LCD KVM Switch is an integrated LCD console and keyboard, video, and mouse (KVM) switch that offers secure access to 8/16 attached computers and mo unts in only 1U of rack space. It features independently retractable 17" LCD mo nitor and keyboard with built- in touchpad.

13 Chapter 2 Inst allation Before Y ou Begin S t andard Rack Mounting A standard rack mounting kit is provided with your KL9108 / KL9116. The kit enables the switch to be mounted in a rack with a depth of 42–77 cm. Note: It takes two people to mount the switch : one to hold it in place, the other to screw it in.

Slide th e LCD modul e out un til the packing material is visible. Remove the packing material before in stalling the unit, as shown in the diagram below .

19 Chapter 3 Basic Operation Opening the Console The KL9108 / KL9116's console consists of two mod ules: an LCD displ ay module located under the top cover; and a keyboard / touchpad modul e below the LCD module. The modules can either slide together, or indepen dently.

29 Chapter 4 Administration Overview The OSD's Administration page lets the Administr ator (and user s with administration permission - see User Managem ent , page 40) configure an d control the overall operat ions of the KL9108 / KL9116. The Administratio n tab is disabled (grayed out) for users who do not have administrat ion permission.

Chapter 4. Administration 31 The OSD consists of four pages, each with a specific set of fun ctio ns: Main, Configuration, Administration, and Log. The Main Page The Main page governs port access. Sel ecting a port and double-clicking it switches you to the dev ice on that port.
KL9108 / KL9116 User Manual 32 The List Function The List Function lets you broaden or narro w the scope of which ports the OSD displays (lists) in the Main Screen.
Chapter 4. Administration 33 The drop down list on the left offers four fixed choices as shown in the table below: The text input box on the right allow s yo u to key in a port name so that only port names that mat ch what you key in show u p in the List.
KL9108 / KL9116 User Manual 34 Port Names To help remember which computer is at tached to a particular port, every port can be given a name. This field allows the Administra tor to create, modify, or delete port names. To configure a port nam e: 1. Click once on the port you want to edit, wait one second and then click again.
Chapter 4. Administration 35 After a second or two, the bar changes to provide you with a text inpu t box: 2. Key in the new Port Name, or modify/delete the old one. The maximum number of characters allowed for a Port Name is 19. Y ou can use all letters, numbers, and sy mb ols on the t ypewriter ke ys of keyboards with PC US English layout.

Chapter 4. Administration 37 The Configuration Page The Configuration Page sets the operating parameters for each user. The Configuration Page settings are t he sa me for the local console, the Windows Client and the Java Client. They are discussed in Chapter 6 (see page 84).

Chapter 4. Administration 39 The Administration Page When you click the Administration tab, the Adm inistration page comes up. Each of the administrat ive functions is re presented by an icon at the left of the page. Clicking the icon brings up its associated dialo g box.
KL9108 / KL9116 User Manual 40 User Management The User Management dialog box is used to create, delete and manage user profiles. Up to 64 user profiles can be established. T o delete a user profile, select it in the list box, and Click Remove . T o modify a user profile, select it and Click Edit .

Administration 43 Service Configuration Access Port As a security measure, if a firewall is being used, the Admi nistrator can specify the port numbers that the firewall will allow, and set the firewall accordingly. Users must specify the port number wh en they log in to the K L9108 / KL9116.
KL9108 / KL9116 User Manual 44 Log Server Important transactions that occur on the KL9108 / KL9116, such as logins and internal status messages, are kept in an automatically generated log file. In this panel, you specify the MAC address and a port number for the computer that the Log Server resides on.
Chapter 4. Administration 45 Network The Network dialog is used to specify the KL9108 / KL9116's network environment. The box is divi ded into two panels: IP Address an d DNS Server. IP Address The KL9108 / KL9116 can either have its IP address assigned dynam ically (DHCP), or it can be given a fixed IP address.
KL9108 / KL9116 User Manual 46 RADIUS If you are using a RADIUS server, RADI US Configuration allows you to set up its parameters: 1. Check Enable. 2. Fill in the IP addresses and Servi ce Ports for the Primary and Alternate RADIUS servers.

Chapter 4. Administration 49 Security The Security page controls access to the KL9108 / KL9116. IP and MAC Filters control access to the KL 9108 / KL91 16 from the W indows Client based on the IP and/ or MAC addresses of the computers attempting to connect.
KL9108 / KL9116 User Manual 50 Each IP filter can consist of a single address, or a range of addresses. T o filter a single IP address, key in the same add ress in both the Fr om and To fields. T o filter a contin uous range of IP addresses, key in the start of the range in the Fr om field; key in the end of the range in the To field.
Chapter 4. Administration 51 Customization The Customization dialog box is arranged in fo ur major secti ons, as desc ribed below: Login Failures Allowed: sets the number of consecutive failed login attempts that are permitted from a remote computer .
KL9108 / KL9116 User Manual 52 I/O Attributes Attributes allows you to set attribute pa rameters for each of the ports. To change port attributes: 1. Cli ck Attributes... on the Customization dialog box. The Setting I/O Attributes dialog box appears.
Chapter 4. Administration 53 3. Select a Shar e Mod e attribute for the port (see the table below). 4. Click OK . (Click Cancel to exit without saving changes.) The dialog box closes. 5. On the Setting I/O Attributes dialog box cl ick Apply to keep your changes.
KL9108 / KL9116 User Manual 54 Time out The Timeout setting applies to po rts with the Occupy I/O attribute. It controls the amount of time (0-255 seco nds) that el apses before an inactive user is timed out when other users are waiting to take control of the port.
Chapter 4. Administration 55 Date/Time The Date/Time dialog box lets the Administrator set up the KL9108 / K L9116's time parameters: If your country or regio n employs Daylight Saving T ime (Summer T ime), check the corresponding box.

Note: Although upgrading the firmware isn't on the OSD Administration page, it is an administrative function, so we will discuss it in this chapter .
57 Chapter 5 Browser Operation Overview An On Screen Display (OSD) interf ace governs KL9108 / KL9116 computer control and switching operations. The OS D can be accessed remotely with a Windows-based client or a Java-based client. You must log in via an Internet browser to connect to the KL9108 / KL9116 and to invo ke the OSD.

Once you select a port, its screen displays on y our monitor, and your keyboard and mouse input affects the remote system.

KL9108 / KL9116 User Manual 68 Hotkey Operation Hotkeys allow you to provide KVM focus to a port di rectly from the keyboard . The KL9108 / KL9116 provides the followi ng hot key features: Auto Scanning Skip Mode Switching The hotkeys are: A and P for Auto Scanning; and the Arrow Keys for Skip Mode.

KL9108 / KL9116 User Manual 70 Panel Array Mode Clicking on the OSD Toolbar's Panel icon invokes Panel Array Mode. Under this mode, the OSD divides your screen into a 4 x 4 grid of 16 pan els: Each panel represents one of the KL 9108 / K L9116's ports.
