1 Chapter 1 Introduction Overview The KL3116 / KL3116T Dual Rail LCD KVM Sw itch is an integrated LCD console and KVM (keyboard, video, and mouse) switch that offers secure access to 16 attached computers and mounts in only 1U of rack space. It features an independently retractable 17" LCD mon ito r and keyboard with built-in touchpad.

19 Chapter 3 Basic Operation Opening the Console The KL3116 / KL3 116T's console consists of two modules: an LCD display module located under the top cover and a keyboard/touchpad module belo w the LCD module. The modules can slid e together, or indepe ndently.

DO NOT place heavy objects on the keyboard module. The maximum load bearing capacity of the keyboard module is 30kg.

An add itional method is availabl e for the KL3116T, which is the T ouch Screen Icon .
Chapter 3. Basic Operation 29 T ouch Screen Icon Use the T ouch Screen Icon for port selection, as well as mouse right button and scroll button emulations. It appears on the right side of the screen and performs the following functions: T ouch Panel Port Selection icon – press this icon to invoke full screen OSD for port selectio n.

31 Chapter 4 OSD Operation OSD Overview The on-screen display (OSD) is a menu driven method to handle com puter control and switchi ng operations. All pr ocedures start from the OSD main screen. There are two ways to invoke the OSD: 1. T ap the OSD invocation key on the keybo ard (see page 79), or 2.
KL3116 / KL3116T User Manual 32 OSD Main Screen When you invoke the OSD, a screen similar to the one below appears: The diagram depicts the administrator's main screen. The user main screen does not show the F4 and F6 functions, since these are reserved for the administrator and can't be accessed by users.

OSD Navigation T o dismiss the menu, and deactivate OSD, click the X at the upper right corner of the OSD window; or press [Esc] . T o Logout, cl ick F8 or the Z Z Z symbol at the top of the main screen, or press [F8] .

For example, you can: rapidly switch to any port, scan selected ports only, limit the list you wish to view, designate a port as a quick view port, create or edit a port name, or make OSD setting adjustments.
Chapter 4. OSD Operation 35 F2: LIST This function lets y ou broaden or na rrow the scope of the ports the OSD displays on the main screen. Many of the OSD functions only operate on the computers currently selected for listing on the m ain screen with this fu nction.
KL3116 / KL3116T User Manual 36 F3: SET This function allows the administrator and each user to set up their own, individual, working environm ent. A sep arate profile for each is stored by the OSD and is activated according to th e username provided during login.

47 Chapter 5 Hotkey Operation Overview For speed and conveni ence, the KL3116 / K L3116T provides a hotkey function that allows you to swi tch ports and ma ke som e configuration settings d irectly from the keyboard. Hotkey port control allows you to provide KVM focus to a particular computer directly from the keyboard.
KL3116 / KL3116T User Manual 48 Hotkey Port Access Invoking Hotkey Mode All Hotkey operations begi n by inv oking Hotkey Mode . Invoking Hotkey Mode takes the following three steps: 1. Ho ld down the [Num Lock] key 2. Press and release the [Minus] key 3.

This function is essentially the same as unpluggi ng and replugging the keyboard and mouse on the target computer.

57 Chapter 6 The Firmware Upgrade Utility The Windows-based firmware upgrade utility (FWUpgrade.exe) p rovides a smooth, automated process for u pgrading the KVM swit ch's firmware. The utility comes as part of a firmware upgrade package that is specific for each device.
