This A T&T T wo-Line Speak erphone 982 can be used with one or tw o incoming telephone lines and featur es a speak erphone for hands-fr ee use. It is hearing-aid compatible and can also be used hands-free with a tw o-band 2.5mm headset (purchased separatel y).

Befor e Y ou Install T o use this product as a tw o-line phone, you m ust ha v e a two-line modular wall jack or two separate one-line modular wall jacks. T o use both lines of a two-line telephone, y our local telephone company m ust pro vide two telephone numbers.

T able/Desk Installation 1 Attach the wedg e. Insert the bottom tabs into the slots as shown. Push gently on the tabs at the large end of the base while locking them into place against the base. 2 Connect the line cord(s) to the telephone and y our modular jack(s).
T able/Desk Installation continued from page 5 • If you ha ve tw o one-line wall jacks , use both long line cords. Insert one end of the first cord into the jack labeled L1 OR L1/L2 on the back of the phone. Then, plug the other end into the wall jack for Line 1.
5 Check for dial tone. Press L , lift the handset, press K or pr ess h (with a headset connected and batteries installed), and listen for a dial tone. Then press l , lift the handset, press K or press h (with a headset connected and batteries installed), and listen for a dial tone.

9 INST ALLA TION INST ALLA TION • If you ha ve tw o separate one-line wall jacks , use two line cords (the short cord and one of the long cords). Plug one end of the short cord into the jack labeled L1 OR L1/L2 on the back of the telephone. Plug one end of a long cord into the jack labeled L2 on the back of the phone.
Switchable Data P ort If you want to connect another de vice (such as a modem or fax machine) to the wall jack, y ou can use the jack on the phone labeled DA T A . Y ou can set the data port to use Line 1 or 2. Set the D A T A SELECT switch located on the back of the phone to L1 or L2 .

Switch Betw een Handset, Headset, and Speak erphone T o switch fr om handset to headset or speak erphone , pr ess h or K . T o switch fr om headset or speakerphone to handset , lift the handset. The headset or speakerphone is automatically turned off.
Redial Press L or l , then lift the handset — OR — Press K — OR — Press h , then press a to call the last number (up to 24 digits) dialed on the line. Erase Redial Memor y Press a LINE button, K or h , then press G , a , G . Automatic Redial This phone can automatically and r epeatedly r edial the last number y ou called.
Hold Press H to put a line on hold. Y ou can hang up the handset. T o return to the call, press the appr opriate LINE button and lift the handset — OR — Press h — OR — Press K — OR — Lift the handset of an extension phone on the same line.
Mute Mute allows y ou to hear the other party , but the other party can’t hear y ou. T o turn Mute on, pr ess M . The MUTE light goes on. T o return to the con versation, press and r elease M again. Flash Press F instead of pressing the switchhook to activate ser vices such as Call W aiting or 3-W a y Calling.
