Befor e Y ou Install 1 Choose a location for the base near an electrical outlet and a telephone jack. This phone requires a modular telephone jac k and a standard electrical outlet (110v AC) not contr olled by a wall switc h. 2 Install the handset battery.
INST ALLA TION 4 3 Attach the belt clip to the cordless handset (optional) . 4 Set the dial mode. The dial mode switc h on the bottom of the base comes set to TONE. If you hav e touch tone ser vice, the phone will be read y to use when installation is complete.
INST ALLA TION 5 T ab le/Desk Installa tion 1 Connect the telephone line cord(s). If you have a two-line jack, use only the line cord with the blac k plugs. Plug one end into the jack labeled L1/L2 on the base, then plug the other end into the wall jack.
3 Char ge the handset battery. Place the handset in the base. Charge the battery for at least 16 hours the first time. After the first charge, the batter y is typically fully charg ed overnight. 4 Check for dial tone. After the batteries are charg ed, pick up the handset, press L , and listen for a dial tone.
2 Connect the telephone line cord(s). If you have a two-line jack, use only the line cord with the blac k plugs. Plug one end into the jack labeled L1/L2 on the base, then plug the other end into the wall jack. Make sure the cord snaps firmly into place.
INST ALLA TION 8 4 Mount the base on the wall. 5 Follow Steps 3-4 in T able/Desk Installation. a) Align holes on base with mounting studs on wall jack. b) Place pow er cord as shown, guiding it through tabs on base. c) Pull base down on mounting studs until it locks into place.
End a Call Place handset in base — OR — Press O . Exit progr amming. Cancel a page. Handset V olume Adjust volume of what you hear through the handset. Mak e a Call Press L or l and wait f or dial tone. Answ er a Call Lift handset from base — OR — Pr ess the lit LINE button or any number key .
10 TELEPHONE OPERA TION A T THE HANDSET T emporar y T one Dialing If you hav e dial pulse (rotar y) ser vice, you can c hange from dial pulse to touch tone dialing during a call by pressing * . This is useful if you need to send touch tone signals f or access to telephone banking or long-distance ser vices.
TELEPHONE OPERA TION A T THE HANDSET 11 Inter com Calls Y ou perform the same steps to make and answer inter com calls. 1 Press i on the handset. 2 When the person at the base answers, speak into the handset.
TELEPHONE OPERA TION A T THE HANDSET 12 Switching fr om Handset to Base Speak erphone 1 At the handset, make or answer a call on Line 1 or Line 2 — OR — Estab lish a confer ence call. 2 Press H on the handset. 3 At the base, press the appropriate LINE button — OR — Press c to pick up a conf erence call.
Opera ting Range This cordless telephone operates within the maximum pow er allowed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Even so, this handset and base can communicate ov er only a certain distance — which can vary with the locations of the base and handset, the weather , and the constr uction of your home or office.
TELEPHONE OPERA TION A T THE BASE 14 Mak e or Answ er a Call Press L or l and speak toward the microphone. When calling, use the base keypad to dial or enter a memor y location. Mute Press to prev ent your caller from hearing you (you can hear y our caller).
TELEPHONE OPERA TION A T THE BASE 15 Speak erphone V olume Adjust the volume of what you hear on a call. Base Ringer V olume Use switc hes on back of phone to adjust how loudly the phone rings for eac h line. Set to HIGH or LO W , or tur n base r inger OFF .
Inter com Calls T o make an inter com call to the handset: 1 Press I on the base — OR — When already on a phone call, press H , then I . 2 When the person at the handset answers, speak towar d the base. 3 Press O when finished. T o answer an inter com call from the handset: 1 The base beeps once and the intercom is open.
TELEPHONE MEMOR Y 17 This cordless phone can store 10 telephone numbers, each up to 20 digits long. Y ou can dial numbers stored in memor y just by pressing G and a number button. Stor e Memor y Numbers 1 Mak e sure the handset is off. 2 Press G on the handset.
BA TTERIES 18 Char ging the Handset Ba tter y Pack This batter y should remain charg ed up to six days with the ringer turned on and up to 12 days with the ring er off. A full y charg ed batter y provides an aver age talk time of about six hours. The batter y pack needs charging when: • A new batter y is installed in the handset.
BA TTERIES 19 Nickel-Cadmium Rechargeable Batteries m ust be recycled or disposed of properl y . Do not dispose of in household garbage. If bur ned, it could e xplode. If punctured, it could release caustic material which could injure the skin or eyes.
BA TTERIES 20 Spar e Battery Charger This phone is equipped with a built-in spare batter y charg er in the base unit. The spare batter y charger allo ws you to alwa ys have a charg ed batter y available should the handset batter y charg e become low .

If the base does not ring when y ou receiv e a call: • Mak e sure the base RINGER s witch is not set to OFF . • Make sure the telephone line cord is connected firmly to the base and the telephone jack. • Make sure the A C adapter is plugg ed firmly into an outlet not controlled by a wall s witch.
