42 Getting Started 2 Attaching the Strap 1 Pass the end of the strap through the strap lug, then secure it on the inside of the clasp. 2 Attach the other end of the strap in the same manner as descr ibed above.
43 Getting Started 2 Insert ing t he Batt ery Insert the lithium-ion b attery or AA batteries into the camera. Use the e xclusive ba ttery D-LI1 09. When us ing the batt ery for the fi rst time, or when the batte ry has n ot been used in a l ong time, or when [Batte ry depleted] ap pears, recha rge the battery.
44 Getting Started 2 3 Face the 2 mark on the exclusive batt ery up and insert it into the battery char ger. First, insert the battery at an angle, as shown in the illustration, and then push down on the battery until it clicks. The indicator lamp is lit during charging and turns off when the battery is fully charged.
45 Getting Started 2 1 Slide the battery cover unlock lever in the directi on of the arrow ( 1 ) to open the battery cover ( 2 ). 2 Face the 2 mark on the battery towards outsi de of the camera, push the batt ery lock lever in the direction of the arr ow ( 3 ) and insert th e battery.

48 Getting Started 2 3 Insert the batt ery holder into the battery chamber. Push the battery lock lever in the direction of the arrow ( 3 ) and insert the battery holder until it locks. To remove the battery holder, push the battery lock lever in the direction of the arrow ( 3 ) with your finger.

50 Getting Started 2 We recom mend th e use of th e AC adapte r kit K -AC109 (opt ional) w hen using the monitor fo r a long time or w hen connec ting the cam era to a compute r or AV device . 1 Make sure the camera is turned off . 2 Open the batt ery cover.
51 Getting Started 2 4 Close the bat t ery c over. The DC coupler’s connection cable i s pulled out from the battery cover. 5 Connect the DC terminals on the AC adapter and the DC coupler with the 2 marks aligned. 6 Connect the AC plug cord to the AC adapter.

58 Getting Started 2 Adjusting the Vi ewfinder Diopter Adjust the viewf inder diopte r to suit y our eyesi ght. If it is difficult to see the v iewfinder imag e clearly, s lide the dio pter adjus tment lev er sideway s. You ca n adjust t he diopter from app roximatel y –2.
59 Getting Started 2 Turning the Camera On and Off 1 Turn the main switch to [ON]. The camera will turn on. Set the main switc h to the position [OFF] to turn off the camera. • Always turn th e camera off when n ot in us e. • The power w ill automat ically turn o ff when you do not perform any ope rations within a set per iod of time .
60 Getting Started 2 Initial Sett ings The first time the camera is turned on after purc hasing, t he [ Language/ u ] screen appear s on the mo nitor. Fol low the proce dure below to set the la nguage disp layed on the mon itor an d th e curr ent date and time.

78 Basic O perations 3 4 Push down on the portion indicated in the il lustrati on to retract the buil t-in flash. 1 Press the K / i button. The built-in flash pops up and begins charging. The b mode is used regardless of the flash mode setting. When the flash is fully charged, b appears in the viewfinder.

80 Basic O perations 3 Daylight-Sync Shooting In dayl ight cond itions, th e flash wi ll eliminat e shadows when a port rait picture is taken with a sha dow cast on a pers on’s face. U se of th e flash i n this wa y is ca lled D aylight-S ync S hooting.

82 Basic O perations 3 Playing Back Pictures You ca n play ba ck captu red images with the c amera. 1 Press the Q button. The camera enters Playback mode and the most recently captured image (image with the highest file number) is displayed on the monitor.
