Using the Lens Shutter of the LS Lens The PENTAX 645LS lens is equipped w ith a shutter that enables high-speed sync shooting.

29 Getting Started 2 2 Face the 2 mark on the battery towards the outsi de of th e c amer a, p ush the battery lock lever in the direc tion of t he arro w ( 3 ) and insert the batte ry. To remove the battery, push the battery lock lever in the direction of the arrow ( 3 ) with your finger.

31 Getting Started 2 Inserting/Removing the SD Memory Card This ca mera can use up to two comm ercially av ailable SD Memory Cards or SDHC Memory Cards (colle ctively referred to as “SD Mem ory Cards” in this m anual). Id eally yo u should use a high-spee d, large-capa city SD Memory Ca rd.
32 Getting Started 2 Precautions When Using the SD Memory Card • The SD Memor y Card is equipped with a write-protect switch. Setting the switch to LOCK prevents new data from being recorded on the card, the st ored data from being deleted, and the card f rom being formatted by the camera or computer.
33 Getting Started 2 Power 1 Turn the main switch to [ON] . The camera will turn on. Set the main s witch to the position [OFF] to tur n off the cam era. Memo • Always turn the camera off when not in use. • The power will automatically turn off when you do not perform any operations within a set period of time (Auto Power Off).
34 Getting Started 2 Initial Settings The first time the camera is tu rned on aft er purchas e, the [Languag e/ u ] scree n appe ars on the mo nitor. F ollow the proce dure belo w to set the display language and the c urrent date and time. 1 Use the 2345 keys to select a desired language and press the 4 button.
35 Getting Started 2 1 On the [Date Adjustment] screen, pres s the 5 key and use th e 23 keys to choose the date forma t. Choose [mm/dd/yy], [dd/mm/yy] or [yy/ mm/dd]. 2 Press the 5 ke y and use t he 23 keys to selec t [24h] (24- hour display) or [12h] (12 -hour display).
36 Getting Started 2 An SD Memory Card must be form atted with th is camera before use . Caut ion • Do not remove t he SD Memor y Card while format ting. The card may be damaged and become unusable. • Formatting an SD M emory Card deletes all images on the card even protected images.
37 Getting Started 2 Diopter Adjust ment You can a djust the d iopter from a pproxi mately –3.5 t o +2.0 m –1 . 1 Turn the diopter a djustment ring while looking through the viewfin der. Turn the diopter adjustment ring clockwise for a negative value and counterclockwise for a positive value.
38 Getting Started 2 You can play bac k captured im ages. 1 Press the Q button. The camera enters Playback mode and the most recently captured image (image with the highest file number) is displayed on the monitor. Press the M button to switch the information display for the image.

( z p.R30) You can set the s ensitivi ty to [AUTO ] (default s etting) or a val ue in the ra nge equiv alent to I SO 200 to 1000.

48 Shooting Fun ctions 3 1 Turn the mode dial while pressing the mode dial lock button. 2 Use the R / S dia ls to change th e setting. R / S appears on the monitor next to the setting that is being changed. Memo • Set the functions o f the e-dials for each mode in the [ A 4] menu.
49 Shooting Fun ctions 3 AE lock is a fu nction that locks the expo sure prior to tak ing the pict ure. 1 Press the L button. The camera locks the exposure. @ is displayed on the status screen and in the viewfinder while the AE lock is engaged. Press it again to cancel the AE l ock.

The camera switches to Capture mode. Memo • The white balance of a JPEG image can also be adjusted after shooting.
