15 Getting Star ted Initial Settings If the initial settings screen appears when you turn the camera on, f ollo w the procedure below to set the displa y language, Home To wn, DST , video output format and current date and time.

20 Quick Start Quick Start T aking Still Pictures F or the simplest procedure to tak e still pictures: The flash fires automatically depending on the light conditions. z Press the power switch. The camera will turn on. x Set the mode dial to . c T urn the LCD monitor on.
v Press the shutter release button. The image will be display ed on the LCD monitor for 0.5 seconds (Instant Revie w) and recorded on the CF card. (The green and red lamps on the right of the viewfinder b link alternately while the image is being recorded on the CF card.

25 Quick Start Viewing images on a PC Y ou only need to install the USB driver the first time. After that, y ou can vie w recorded images and edit them on the PC just by connecting the camera to the PC with the USB cable and downloading the images.

Selecting the Quality Levels Y ou can choose the image compression rate. TIFF TIFF The quality is the best and there is a high volume of image data. BEST The quality is better and there is a high volume of image data. BETTER Standard level GOOD The quality is good and there is a low v olume of image data.
58 T aking Pictures Adjusting the Color Balance according to Lighting (White Balance) Y ou can take pictures in the actual colors that you see b y adjust- ing the white balance according to the light conditions. AW B A uto The camera adjusts the white balance automatically .

79 Playbac k/Erasing Setting the Printing Service Y ou can print the images on the CF card using a DPOF (Digital Pr int Order Format) compatible printer or at a printing ser vice. 83 Playbac k/Erasing Installing the software The procedures for installing the necessary software are e xplained. • The installation procedure varies depending on the version of Windows (98/Me/2000). Before star ting installation, check which v ersion of Windo ws you ha ve on y our PC.
84 Playbac k/Erasing If you are using Windows 98, follow the procedure belo w to install the software. For Windows Me, see p.86, and f or Windows 2000, see p .88. ● Windows 98 b Click [Next]. n Select [Search f or the best driver for y our device (Recommended)], and then clic k [Next].
