8 8 smc PENT AX-D A LENS Note: • The DA lens does not have a n aper ture ring. Aper ture settings are c ontrolled automatical ly as if set to the auto “A ” position, so accessories without an aut o “A” setting cannot be used with this lens. • The D A lens is not compatib le with film SLR cameras.
9 9 About th e D A lens mount The D A lens is an interchangeable lens specifically designed for PENT AX digital SLR cameras . There are t hree mounts f or the D A lens, the K AF , K AF2 and K AF3 . Refer to the next page for more information on lenses with supersonic motors.
10 10 About lenses with a supersonic moto r The lenses in the tab le below are equipped with internal supersonic motors. 12 12 MOUNTING AND REMO VING THE LENS 1. T o mount the lens on the camera body Attach th e lens whil e aligning t he red dots o n the lens a nd body , then t urn the lens clockwise unti l it clicks in place. " Memo: • Do not hold down the lens un lock button while mounti ng the lens, oth erwise the lens will not be pr operly mounted.

15 15 FOCUSING Changing the Focus Mo de Use the c amera’ s focus mode switch to change be tween autofocus mode and manual focus mode. For details, refer to your camera operating manual.
16 16 Using A utofocus Set the f ocus mode to autof ocus. Pr ess the shutter release b utton halfw ay to a utofo cus. With the , , or / camera s, yo u can also pres s the AF button to autof ocus. See page 15 f or inform ation about ch anging the focus mode.
17 17 CA UTION During autof ocusing, t he fo cusing ring of the f ollowing lenses will rotate. • T o prevent malfunction, do not touch the focusing r ing during auto focusing. Particularly be careful when the Focus Mode is s et to AF .C (A F-continuous).
18 18 Using Man ual Focus Set the focus mode to MF , and tur n the focusing ri ng to focus manually . See page 15 f or inform ation about ch anging the focus mode. Using the Quick-Shift Focus System If the focus mode is set to autofocus, you can focus manually after autofocus is achi ev ed.
19 19 How to use the Quick-Shift Focus System 1. Using Autofocus Set the f ocus mode s witch to autof ocus, then press the sh utter release b utton halfw ay to autof ocus.
20 20 CA UTION • When usin g the Quick-Shift F ocus Sy stem, keep pressi ng the shutt er release button (or AF button) after you achieve f ocus an d before taking a p icture. If you let go of the shutter re lease button before taking t he picture, autofocus will operate again when you press the s hutter release button ag ain.

40 40 PRECA UTION S WHEN USING THE LENS WITH A FLASH Built-in Flash The bu ilt-in flash can not be used when the distance is le ss than 0.7m. When th e flash is used withi n 0.7m, it ca uses incorr ect exposure control and vignet ting in the p icture cor ners.
