14 C1629M-F (3/08) Equipment Placement and Rack Mounting UNPACKING THE DVR5300 The DVR5300 Series digital video recor de r sh ips with two smaller boxes as shown in Figure 7. One contains the ha rd drive pack. T he other contains th e accessory p ack.

The D VR5300 occupie s 3 RU (rack un its) of vertica l rack space (5.25 inches or 13.3 cm). The hardwa re necessa ry to mount the DVR5300 into a rack is supplied with the unit.

T ighten the 8-32 x 0.375-inch Phillips tru ss head screws that were atta c hed to the front- and rear -mount rails in steps 2 and 3. 10. Place th e unit onto the mount rails by sliding th e cha ssis brackets onto the rails.

C1629M-F (3/08) 21 Hard Drive Array Installation All DVR5300 Ser ie s recorders use RAID 5 to maximize fault toleran ce and enhance disk-access p erformance. The unit incorp orates two RAID 5 controllers; each manages an independent storage ar ray of six dr ives.
22 C1629M-F (3/08) On six-drive mod els (1.5 TB/3.0 TB), carriers 1 thr ough 6 cont ain hard drives. Carriers 7 through 12 do not co ntain h ard drives , but should be installed to maintain prop er air circula tion in the unit. Upgrade kits are available th at increase the unit capacity o f th e si x-drive models b y 1.
C1629M-F (3/08) 23 4. Make sure the hard drive carrier h as been installed cor rectly . Without squeezing the sp ring-loaded release tabs, gen tly pull th e plastic front cover of the carrier away from th e chassis. If the carrie r does no t pull out, the dr ive is secure.

These autorang in g power supplies adapt automa tically to voltages between 100 V AC and 240 V AC (50/60 Hz).

34 C1629M-F (3/08) INSTALLING MULTIPLE SEB5100 UNITS (SWITCH) Use a ded icated, Pelco-approved Gi gabit Ethernet switch to expa nd the video stor ag e of the DVR5300 quickly and easily . First, c onne ct the DVR5300 to the switch. Then co nnect up t o eight SEB5100 units to the s witch.

NOTES: • The HD5000 Se ries hard dri ve replacem ent kit include s a single ha rd drive car rier with a Pe lco-certifi ed hard drive .

C1629M-F (3/08) 39 Appendix C: Replacing a Power Supply The DVR5300 in corporates two independe nt, hot-swap pable power supplies. Each power supply acts as a re dundant alt ernate fo r the other . This level of fau lt tolerance ensures that the DVR5300 is ca pable of susta ining uninte rruptible op eration, even if one power su pply fails.

C1629M-F (3/08) 41 Appendix D: Installing an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Y ou should connect e ach DVR5300 Serie s digital video reco rder to a UPS (not sup plied). UPS devices maint ain a limited amount of backup batte ry power in case the main power fails.
42 C1629M-F (3/08) Appendix E: Replacing the Operating System Drive The DVR5300 uses a compact flash drive fo r th e unit operating system. In addition to g reater reli ability, this drive can be easi ly replaced if a failure occurs. NOTES: • Y ou must shut down the unit to replac e th e operating system drive.
