Preparation 7 Location of Controls Handset Handset sof t keys • When a function name does not appear above a soft key , the soft key has no function. Handset navigator key T wo soft keys are used to select functions displayed directly above each key .
8 Inst allation Connections • USE ONL Y WITH Panasonic AC ADAPT OR PQL V1BX. • The AC adaptor must remain connected at all times. (It is normal for the adaptor to feel warm during use.) • If your unit is connected to a PBX whic h does not support Ca ller ID, you cannot access Caller ID services.
Preparation 9 Inst allation Inst alling the Battery in the Handset Insert the battery ( 1 ), and press it down until it snaps into the compartment ( 2 ). Close the cover . T o replace th e batter y: Press the notch on the cover firmly and slide i t as indicated by the arrow .
Inst allation 10 Recharge Recharge the battery when: —“ Recharge battery ” is displayed on the handset, —“ 7 ” flashes, or —the handset beeps intermittently while it is in use.
11 Preparation Programmable Settings Programming Guidelines This unit has several programma ble f unctions which can be selected from the function menu on the display (p. 12). How to select a functi on item from the menu • T o go back to the previous menu, press Back , or press Select while “ ---(Go back)---- ” is displayed.

Preparation 13 Programmable Settings Date and Time Y ou need to set the date and time to display the time and date the calls were received in the Ca ller List. • When entering the time in step 3, you cannot enter numbers greater than 12. Do not use military time.
Programmable Settings 14 Dialing Mode If you have touch tone service, set the di aling mode to “T one”. For rotary or pulse service, set to “Pulse”. The factory preset is “T one”. Line Mode The line mode i s preset to “B” an d generally should not be ad justed.
Preparation 15 Programmable Settings Auto T alk The Auto T alk feature allows you to answer cal ls by simply lifting the handset off the base unit. Y ou do not ne ed to press [ C ] or [ s ] . The factory preset is OFF . • In order to view Caller ID information after you lift the handset to answer a call, leave the Auto T alk feature turned off.
Programmable Settings 16 Ringer V olume Y ou can select the handset or base unit ringer volumes to high, medium, low , or off. The factory preset is HIGH. If the handset and base unit ringer is turned off, the handset or base unit will ring at the low level for intercom calls, and will not ring for outside calls.
Preparation 17 Programmable Settings Base unit ringer volume Make sure the base unit is not being used. T o set the ringer volume to high (preset), medium, or low , pres s VOLUME [ < ] or [ > ] . • T o increase volume, press VOLUME [ > ] . T o decrease volume, press VOLUME [ < ] .
Programmable Settings 18 Ringer T one Y ou can set the handset an d base unit ringers to use one of 7 ringer patterns for outside calls. “T one 1” to “T one 3” are bell ringer patterns. “Melody 1” to “Melody 4” are melody patterns. The fa ctory preset is “T one 1”.
Preparation 19 Programmable Settings Setting the base unit ringer tone by using the LCD Contrast There are 6 levels of LCD contrast. The factory preset is “level 3”. 1 Press [MENU] . 2 Scroll to “ Initial setting ” by pressing [ d ] or [ B ] , then press Select .

Basic Operation 25 Caller ID Service This unit is compatible with Caller ID serv ices offered by your telephone company . If you subscribe to Caller ID, caller ’ s information will be displayed and recorded in the Caller List.
Caller ID Service 26 Using T alking Caller ID T o use this feature, you need to subscribe to Caller ID. For further information, please contact your telephone company . T o activate this feature, you must turn this feature on (p. 27). When a call is received, the unit wil l ring and receive caller informati on.
Caller ID Service Basic Operation 27 T o turn T alking Caller ID on or off Y ou can turn T alking Caller ID on or off for the handset and base unit separately . If this feature is off, the unit will not anno unce caller names. The factory preset is OFF .
28 Using the Caller List The unit can record information up to 50 different callers and store this information in the Caller List. Caller information is so rted by the most recent call to the oldest. When t he 51 st call is received, the information from the 1 st call is deleted .

33 Adv anced Operation Phone Book The handset can store up to 50 names and phone numbers in its phone book. Y ou can make a call by selecting a name or number from the phone book. S toring Names and Numbers 1 Press Phone book . 2 Press Add . • The display will show the number of stored items.

43 Adv anced Operation Special Features T emporary T one Dialing (For Rot ary or Pulse Service Users) Press [ * ] (TONE) before entering access numb ers which require tone dialing. • The dialing mode changes to tone.
