- 12 - Before Use At the time when this camera is purchased, the LCD monitor is st owed in the camera body . Bring out the LCD monitor as shown below . 1 Open the LCD monitor . (Maximum 180 o ) 2 It can be rot ated 180 o forwar d. 3 Return the monitor to its original position.

- 15 - Before Use Function lever can be used in 2 ways, for zoom operations (P81) and for Exposure Compensat ion (P88) . Slide the lever to lef t or right to operate. ∫ T o assign a function to the Function Lever Y ou can assign a function to the function lever at [Function Lever] in the [ Custom] menu.
- 16 - Before Use About the Lens ∫ Micro Four Thirds ™ mo unt specif icati on le ns This unit can use the dedicated lenses compatible with the Micro Four Thirds System lens mount specif ication (Micro Four Thirds m ount).
- 17 - Prepar ation Changing the Lens • Check that th e came ra is t urned off. • Change lens es where the re is not a l ot of dirt or dust. Refer to P213 , P214 when d irt or dust gets on the lens. 1 T urn the l ens r ear cap A and the body cap B in the directio n of t he arrow to det a ch them .

- 19 - Prepar ation When recording into strong backlight, irregular ref lection may occur within the lens. The lens hood reduces t he inclusion of unwanted light in the recorded images a nd lowers the drop in contrast. The lens hood cuts of f excess li ghting and improves the picture quality .
- 20 - Prepar ation Att aching the Shoulder Strap • We r ecommend attac hing t he should er strap when us ing the camera to preve nt it fr om dropping.
- 21 - Prepar ation Charging the Bat tery ∫ About batteries that you can use with this unit • Use the dedicate d charger and batter y . • The batter y is not charg ed when the cam er a is shipped . Charge the batte ry before u se. • Charge the bat tery with the charg er indoors.
- 22 - Prepar ation ∫ About the [CHARGE] indicator The [CHARGE] indicator turns on: The [CHARGE] indicator is turned on during charging. The [CHARGE] indicator turns off: The [CHARGE] indicator will turn off once the charging has completed without any problem.

- 29 - Prepar ation Setting Date/Time (Clock Set) • The clock is not set when the camera is shippe d. 1 T urn the camera on. • The status indic ator 1 lights when you turn this u nit on. • If the lang uage select sc reen is not displa yed, proceed t o st ep 4 .
- 30 - Prepar ation Select [Clock Set] in the [Setup] menu. (P 64) • The clock can be reset as shown in steps 5 and 6 . • The clock setting i s maintained for 3 months using the bu ilt-in clock battery even without the battery . (Leave the c harged battery in the unit for 24 hours to charge the built-in battery .

- 34 - Basic Using the Viewfinder ∫ About the eye sensor automatic switching When [L VF/LCD Auto] o f [Eye Sensor] (P170) in the [Custom] m enu is set to [ON] and your eye or an object is brought close to t he viewfinder , the display automatically switches to the viewfinder display .
- 35 - Basic If [Eye Sensor AF] in the [Custom] menu is se t to [ON], the c amera automatically adjusts the focus as the eye sensor is activated. Note • Beep sounds are not emitted whe n the focus is achieved in [Eye Se nsor AF]. • [Eye Sens or AF] may not wo rk in di mly lit conditio ns.

- 39 - Basic Just by touching t he subject you want as your point of focus, the camera will focus on the subject and take the picture automatically . ∫ T o cancel the T ouch Shutter function T ouch [ ] .
- 40 - Basic Press [DISP .] to chang e. • Y ou can select bet ween [ ] (LCD monitor styl e ) and [ ] (viewfinder st y le) for each of th e LCD monitor and the viewf inder display screen using [LCD Disp.S tyle] and [L VF Disp.S tyle] in the [Custom] menu.
- 41 - Basic Note • If approximat ely 1 minute elap ses without an opera tion being perf orme d, part of th e dis pla y will disappear . Press [ DISP .] or t ouch the LCD moni tor to mak e the display re appear . ∫ About the ti lt sensor display With the tilt sensor displayed, it is easy to correct the tilt of the camera etc.
- 42 - Basic T aking Pictures using the Automa tic Function (Intelligent Auto Mode) Recording M ode: In this mode, the camera makes the optimal settings for the subject and scene, so we recommend it when you wish to leave the settings t o the camera and record without thinking about them.
- 43 - Basic ∫ Scene Detection When the camera identifies the optimum scene, the icon of t he scene concerned is displayed in blue for 2 secon ds, after which it s color changes to the usual red. Depending on the identified scene, the camera may display [ ], which allows you to select the camera-recomm ended eff ects.
- 44 - Basic ∫ About the flash Flash mode is set t o [ Œ ] when the flash is closed, and [ ] (AUT O) when it is open. When the flash is open, the cam era automatically se ts [ ], [ ] (AUTO/Red-Eye Reduc tion), [ ], or [ ] to match the type of subject and brightness.
- 45 - Basic Depending on the s cene that is automatically identified, it may be possible to select from a number of different image effects (filters) automat ically recom mended by the camera, with reference to example images. (Only availabl e when [Recommended Filter] on the recording menu is set to [ON].
- 46 - Basic Recording M ode: The brightness and color optimally set b y the camera can be easily matched to your preferences. This m ode is useful if you do not like dealing wi th detailed settings but li ke the settings made automatically by the camera to matc h your preferences.

- 49 - Basic Note • On the Defocus Control settin g screen of Int ell igent Au to ( or ) Mode, t he AF Mode is [ Ø ]. Y ou can set the loca tion of the AF are a by touchi ng t he screen . (Si ze cannot be changed) • Afte r beginning motion picture rec ording, the amount of defocus will vary d epending on the recording conditio ns.
- 50 - Basic T aking Pictures with Y ou r Favorite Settings (Program AE Mod e) Recording M ode: The camera automatically sets the shutter speed and the aperture value according to the brightness of the subject. Y ou can take pictures with greater fr eedom by changing various settings in the [Rec] menu.
- 51 - Basic In Program AE Mode, you can change the pres et aperture value and shutter speed without changing the exposure. This is called Program Shift. Y ou can make the background more blurred by decr easing the aperture value or record a moving subject more dynamically by slowing the shutter speed when taking a picture in Program AE Mode.
- 52 - Basic Recording Motion Picture Applicable mode s: This camera can record full high definition moti on pictures compatible with t he A VCHD format or motion pictures recorded in MP4.

- 58 - Basic Note • The recording date of the pict ure selected in the playback scr ee n becomes the dat e selected whe n the Calend ar s creen is fi rs t displayed. • If there are multiple pict ures with the sa me record ing dat e, the fir st picture rec or ded on tha t day is displayed.
- 59 - Basic ∫ Switching the d isplayed image wh ile maint aining the Playback Z oom Y ou can switch the displayed image while maintaining the same zoom magnification and zoom position for the Pl ayback Zoom. Switch to picture s elect ope ration by pres sing the rear dial d uring Playback Zoom, and select pictures by touching [ ]/[ ].

- 61 - Basic This unit was designe d to play motion pictures using the A VCHD, MP4 and QuickTime Motion JPEG f ormats. In Playbac k Mode, se lect a picture with the mo tion picture icon ([ ]) and touch [ ] in the midd le of the screen.
- 62 - Basic Y ou can create a single still picture f rom a recorded motion picture. 1 T ouch [ ] during Motion Picture playback. 2 T ouch [ ]. • Confirmatio n screen is displayed . It is execut ed when [Y es] is selected. Note • It will be saved with [Picture Size] set to [S] (2 M), [Aspect Ratio] set to [ W ], and [Qua lity] set t o [ › ].
- 63 - Basic Deleting Pictures Once deleted, pictu res cannot be recovered. • Pictures th at are not in th e DCF stan dard or th ose that are pr ot ected canno t be delet ed. ¢ Burst group will be t reat ed as a single picture. (All th e pict ures in the selected bur st grou p will be delete d.
- 64 - Basic Setting the Menu This camera off ers menu s elections that allow you to c ustomize its operation to maximize your picture taking experience. In particular , the [Setup] menu contains some important settings relating to the c amera’s clock and power .

- 67 - Basic Y ou can set the background fo r the menu screen ac cording to your preferences. Y ou can also set one of t he recorded still images as the background on the top menu s creen. 1 Press [MENU/SE T] to display the top menu. 2 T ouch [Background Ima ge].
- 68 - Basic Setting the Quick Menu By using the Quick Men u, some of the m enu settings can be easily found. • The feat ures that can be adju sted using Quic k M enu are det ermined by th e mode or a display st y le the camera is in. 1 Press [Q.M ENU] to displ ay the Qui ck Menu.
