Charge the battery before use. 1 Attach the battery wi th attention to the direct ion of the battery . 2 Connect the A C cable. • The AC cab l e does not fit entirely into the A C input terminal.

Preparation 19 VQT0S74 Setting Date/ Time (Cl oc k Set) ∫ Initial setting The clock is not set when t he camera is shipped. When you turn the camera on, the follo wing screen appears. • When pressing the [MEN U] b ut ton, the screen shown in step 1 appears.
Prepara tion 20 VQT0S7 4 About the S etup Menu • Set the items if necessary . (Refer t o P21 – 23 for each menu item.) 1 T urn the camera on. • The menu items depend on the mode selected with the m ode dial (P27). In this page, the it ems in normal picture mode [ ] are indicated.
Preparation 21 VQT0S74 [SETUP ] menu (Refer to P20 for the setting method.) [MONIT OR] Adjust the brightness of the LCD monit or in 7 steps. • The setting on the brightness of the LCD monitor also affects simple mode [ ]. [A UTO REVIEW] [OFF] : T he recorded picture does not automatically appear .
Prepara tion 22 VQT0S7 4 [SETUP] menu (Refer to P20 for the setting method.) [ECONOMY] The br ightness of the LCD m onitor is reduced, and the battery life is sav ed by turning off the LCD monitor automatically while the camera is not in use in the recording mode.
Preparation 23 VQT0S74 [SETUP ] menu (Refer to P20 for the setting method.) [RES ET] The settings on the [REC] or the [SETUP] menu are reset to the initial settings. • The bir th da y setting for [BABY] (P 59) in scene mode is also reset when t he settings in the [SETUP] menu are reset.
Prepara tion 24 VQT0S7 4 About the L CD Monitor A LCD monitor (LCD) Press the [DISPLA Y] button to chang e the display . • When the menu screen appears, the [DISPLA Y ] b u tton is not activ at ed. During multi playbac k (P47) or playback zoom (P49), the indications on the screen can be turn ed on and off.
Preparation 25 VQT0S74 ∫ T o vie w the LCD moni tor out door s on a bright sunny da y (Power LCD func tio n) When you press and hold the [PWR LCD] button f or 1 second, the power LCD function is act iv ated. The LCD m onitor become s brighter than usual and easier to see outdoors.
Prepara tion 26 VQT0S7 4 ∫ Histogram • A histogram is a graph that displa ys brightness along the horizontal axis (blac k to white) and the number of pixels at each brightness level on the vertical axis. • It allows t he cam er a user to easily chec k the wa y a picture is being e xposed.

Subjects such as people become dark when pictures are recorded in backlight. If you press 3 , [ ] (compensating b ackli ght ON indication ) appears and the backlight compensation function is activat ed.

When the burst mode is set to [ ] or [ ], they a re fixed to the values set for the first picture. When the b urst speed is set to [ ], they are adjusted each time you tak e a picture.

The subject can be recorded with brightness in real lif e by using the flash and slo wing down the shutter speed.

This mode allows you to t ake a pi cture in locations such as skiing resor ts and locations near s nowy mountains. The ex posure and the wh ite balance are adjusted to make t he white colour of the snow stand out.

In this time, the self-timer indicator lights up while recording the audio. (P40) • When you select [SELF POR TRAIT], the zoom magnification is automatically moved to Wide (1 k ).
Recording Menu Settings 65 VQT0S74 Recording Menu Se ttings Using the [REC] mode menu Setting the hue, picture quality adjustm ent, etc. allows you to creat e wide variations on taking pictures.

This function allows you to reproduc e a white colour closer to the tone in real life on the pictures reco rded under sunlight, halogen lighting, etc. i n which the white colour may appear re ddish or bluish.
Recording Menu Settings 67 VQT0S74 ∫ Setting the White Balance manual ly (Whit e set ) Use this mode when you w ant to set the white balance manually .
Recording Me nu Setting s 68 VQT0S7 4 [REC] mode menu (Refer t o P65 f or the s etting method.) ISO sensitivity represents the sensitivity to light in values. If you set the ISO sensitivity higher , the camera becomes more suitable for recording in dark places.
Recording Menu Settings 69 VQT0S74 [REC] m ode menu (Refer to P6 5 for the setting method.) When you select a larger picture size [ ] (6M), you can print pictures more clear ly . When you select a smaller picture size [ ] (0.3M EZ), you can record more pictures.
Recording Me nu Setting s 70 VQT0S7 4 ∫ Using the e xtra opt ical z oom (EZ) When the optical zoom (P36) is used, subjects can usually be magnified up to 3 times. Howe ver , if you select a picture size such as [ ] (3M EZ) w hich activates the extra optical zoom, the zoom ratio will be extended as shown below .

Recording Me nu Setting s 72 VQT0S7 4 [REC] mode menu (Refer t o P65 f or the s etting method.) ∫ High speed AF (H) mode • When you select 3-area-focusing (High speed) or 1-area-fo cusing (High speed), the auto f ocus is activated in high speed and y ou can f o cus on the subject more quic kly .
Recording Menu Settings 73 VQT0S74 [REC] m ode menu (Refer to P6 5 for the setting method.) Illuminating the subject with the AF assist lamp allows the camera t o focus on the subject in low light conditions.
Recording Me nu Setting s 74 VQT0S7 4 [REC] mode menu (Refer t o P65 f or the s etting method.) The shutter speed can be automat ically adjusted. How ev er, if y ou want brighter pictures, y ou can manually select a slow er shutter speed.
Recording Menu Settings 75 VQT0S74 [REC] m ode menu (Refer to P6 5 for the setting method.) • In the digital zoom, a larger picture has lower picture quality . • In the digital zoom range , the stabilizer function may not be effectiv e. • When u sing the digital zoom, we recommend using a tripod and the self-timer (P40) f or taking pictures.
