5 PREP ARATI ON CONNECTING TO POWE R You can power your SCP-96 from: • inter nal batter ies • AC power • your v ehi cle’ s ci garet te -lig hter socket Using Batter y Power To power the SCP-96 from i nternal bat teri es, you need two AA bat te ries.

8 Using AC Power To power t he SCP- 96 f rom a st and ard AC ou tlet , yo u need an A C ada pter such as Cat . No. 2 73-1654. Cauti ons: • Y ou must use an AC adapter that s uppli es at leas t 3 volts DC power and deli vers at le ast 200 mill iam ps.
9 1. Set the adapt er’s vol tag e switch t o 3V . 2. Put the ad apter’s 3. 4 mm ou ter d iamet er /1.3 mm inner diameter barrel plug i nto t he adap ter’s cord, wi th t he tip set to negat ive (–T IP). 3. I nsert the plug into the SCP-96’ s DC 3 V jack.

11 CONNECTING HEADPHO NES OR SPEAKERS To lis ten to you r SCP-96, yo u must connec t a pair of headphones or ampli fied spea kers ( not su ppl ied) with a 1/ 8- inch ( 3.5 -mm ) mi ni-pl ug. To co nnect hea d- phones o r an amplif ied s peake r sys tem, inse rt the mini- plug int o the SCP-96’s jack.

13 USING THE BELT CLIP The belt cli p lets you keep yo ur ha nds fre e while you list en to the SCP-96. To at tach the bel t clip, sl ide its latch es into t he slots on the ca sset te play er and sli de it up unt il it lock s int o place. To remove t he bel t cl ip, pus h in on PUSH RELEASE , slid e the bel t cli p down, then lif t i t of f.
14 OPERATION PLAYING THE RADIO 1. Set T APE/R ADIO to RADIO . One of th e BA TTER Y indi cator s light s. 2. Set FM ST/F M/ AM to the desir ed ba nd. Set it t o FM ST for stere o sound on FM stati ons. Notes: • The AM antenna i s built- in. Mov e the SCP-9 6 to impr ove AM rece pti on.
15 4. Adjust VOLUME to the de si red l isten ing l eve l. 5. Adjust E-BAS S , BASS , and TRE BLE to the de- sired levels . (See “ Us ing the T one Cont rols” on Page 19.) Note: If you set E-BASS to MAX , the bass and trebl e cont ro ls have no eff ect.
