If you have other OPPO products placed close to the BDP-83, they may ina dvertently respond to the BDP-83 re mote control. In this case you can sel ect a different remote cod e to avoid conflicts.

INSTALLATION 19 Setting Up the Player - Easy Setup Wizar d Access the Easy Setup Wizard When the player i s turned on for the first time, an Easy Setup Wi zard screen will appear. It is a series of guided instruct ions designed to configu re the basic setting s for the player.
INSTALLATION 20 Select the Best Output Resolution One of the major advanta ges of the OPPO Blu-Ray Disc Player is its ability to play high-definition Blu-Ray video and also up-conv ert standard definit ion video stored on DVD discs to high defini tion.
INSTALLATION 21 Press the UP/DOWN ARR OW buttons to select the desired output resol ution, then press the ENTER button. The player will apply the selected output resolution and ask you to confirm the selectio n. If your TV su pports the se lected resolution, you will see a dialog box with a count- down clock.

BASIC OPERATIONS 26 Blu-r ay Disc Menu Playback TOP MENU POP-UP MENU ARROW BUTTONS ENTER COLOR BUTTONS 1. Blu-ray Discs usually contain a Top Menu and a Pop-up Menu. The Top Menu normally appears at the beginning of the playback, after the previe ws a nd copyright messages.
BASIC OPERATIONS 27 In addition to the playback time, the on-screen displa y may also contain the following information about the content currently playing: • Playback status: an icon indicating play , pause, and fa st forward/reverse status. • Bit rate meter: an indication of the bit rate of the audio and video stream.
BASIC OPERATIONS 28 NOTE Availability of languages and audi o channels vari es by disc. Some DVD-Aud io discs allow audio track selection with the AU DIO button, while others require the user to select from the audio setup menu of the disc.
BASIC OPERATIONS 29 2. The disc menu usually features interactive cont rols to turn on/off the Picture-in-Picture video and Secondary Audio Program. Please use those co ntrols to select the desired secondary audio/video content. 3. There is a PIP button on the remote control.
30 AD V ANCED OPERA TIONS TV System Selection P/N While you may want to set the video output system (NTSC/PAL) to the same as that supported by your TV, real ize that the OPPO Blu-ray Disc Player will convert any content that is not in the co rrect format your TV understands.

ADVANCED OPERATIONS 36 In normal playback mode, each track is played back in sequential order. As the name implies, the Random playback mode randomly sel ects a track to play. The Shuffle mode also plays ba ck the tracks in random order, but it ensures t hat each track is played only once.
ADVANCED OPERATIONS 37 2. Chapter time search. For example, search for a specified time within the curre ntly playing chapter. • Press the DISPLAY button to bring up the on- screen display. Use the PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN button to switch the display to chapter time mode.

40 MEDIA FILE PLA YBA CK In addition to playing standard disc-base d format s such as Blu-ray Disc, DVD, CD and SACD, the OPPO BDP-83 Blu-ray Disc Player can play media files. You can enjoy digital music, movie s and photos stored on an optical disc (re cordable CD or DVD) or a USB drive.
MEDIA FILE PLAYBACK 41 There are four sele ctions in the Home M enu. Depending on what type of media fil es that you intend to play, you can choose among the “Music,” “Movie” and “Photo” categories. T he “Setup Menu” selection will bri ng you to the player’s Setup M enu just like pressing the SETUP b utton on the remote con trol.

44 SETUP MENU OPTIONS The Setup Menu of the OPPO Blu-ray Disc Player pr esents many setup and configuration options. For most users, the default configuration will be suffici ent and will not require any ch anges to the settings.

In this screen we could, for example, instruct you to set the PIP Mark parameter to Off in the Playback Setup section. When auto play mode is turned off, the player will wait for the user to start playback by pressing the PLAY button.
SETUP MENU OPTIONS 49 3. TV Aspect Ratio : To set the aspect ratio of the player’s output image. The options are : • 4:3 Letterbox – Choose this when the displ ay is standard 4:3. A widescreen image is displayed in “letterbox” format wi th black borders o n top and bottom.

Saturation : To adjust the saturation (color inten sity level) of the video output. 5. Detail Enhancement (Sharpness): T o set the sharpness of video output.
SETUP MENU OPTIONS 55 9. Border Level : To set the brightness level of the bor der area when borders are inserted by the player to maintain correct aspect ratio. The defaul t level is 0, which c orresponds to total black. If you set it to a positive level, the bars gradually become lighter grey instead of black.
SETUP MENU OPTIONS 56 NOTE If you use HDMI to connect audio to an HDMI A/V re ceiver or audio processor, it is importan t that you choose 720p or higher HDMI output resolution when playing high re solution audio content (DVD-Audio, SACD, Dolby TrueHD and DT S-HD Master Audio ).

Blu-ray Di scs also have many op tional audio components such as the Secondary Au dio Program and menu cli cking sound.

SETUP MENU OPTIONS 59 Multi-Channel Analog Audio to Receiver If the player is connected to an A/V receiv er through the 7.1ch or 5.1ch analog audio jacks usi ng 8 or 6 RCA cables (as describ ed in “Method 5” on page 14), you can play all supported audio format s and listen to them with your A/V receiver a nd surround sound systems.
