15 Remote Contr oller Notes: • If the remote controller doesn’t work reliably , try replacing the batteries. • Don’t mix ne w and old batteries or dif ferent types of batteries. • If you intend not to use the re mote controller for a long time, remo ve the batter ies to prev ent damage from leakage or corrosion.

19 Remote Controller —Contin ued T o control an Onky o CD player , MD recorder , or CD recorder , or a CD or MD player/recorder made by another manufacturer , press the [CD] REMO TE MODE button to select the CD/MD/CDR r emote con- troller mode.
20 Remote Contr oller —Continued Dock mode is for controlling an Apple iPod in an Onkyo RI Dock. T o control an RI Dock, pr ess the [CD] (TX-NR906) or [DOCK] (TX-SR876) REMO TE MODE button to select the DOCK remote contr oller mode. In order to control an RI Dock, you must first enter the appropriate remote cont rol code (see page 137).
21 Remote Controller —Contin ued NET/USB mode is for play ing music files on a net- worked computer , media server , or USB mass storage device, o r for listeni ng to Internet radio. T o set the remot e controll er to NET/USB mode, pr ess the [NET/USB] REMO TE MODE button.

23 Connecting the A V Receiver About Speaker s A and Speaker s B (TX-NR906 only) Speakers A and Speakers B allo ws you to have tw o speaker c onf igurations of up to 7.1 speakers. Each conf iguration has its ow n pair of stereo front speakers and can use the same subw oofer , center , surround, and surround back speakers, as required.

25 Connecting the A V Receiver —Continued Speaker Connectio n Precautions Read the following before connecting your speak ers: • Y ou can connect speakers with an impedance of between 4 and 16 ohms.
26 Connecting the A V Receiver —Continued ■ 7.1-channel Pla yback with Speakers A The follow ing illustration shows which speaker should be conn ected to each pai r of terminals for 7.1 -channel playback with Speakers A. If you’ re using only one surround back speak er , connect it to the SURR BA CK L terminals.

31 Connecting the A V Receiver —Continued This section explains ho w to connect the supplied indoor FM antenna and AM loop ante nna, and how to connect commercially a vailable outd oor FM and AM antennas. The A V receiv er won’t pick up any radio signals without any an tenna connected, so you must connect the antenna to use the tuner .
32 Connecting the A V Receiver —Continued If you cannot achie ve good reception with the supplied indoor AM loop antenna, try using it with a commer- cially av ailable outdoor AM antenna (see page 32).
33 Connecting the A V Receiver —Continued • Before making any A V conne ctions, read the manuals supplied with your other A V components. • Don’t connect the po wer cord until you’ ve completed and double-checked all A V connections.
34 Connecting the A V Receiver —Continued By connecting both the audio a nd video outputs of your D VD player and ot her A V components to the A V recei ver, you can switch the audio and video signals simultaneously simply by changing the input source on the A V receiv er.

38 Connecting the A V Receiver —Continued Hooking Up the Multich annel Input If your D VD player supports multichannel audio formats such as DVD- Audio a nd SACD, and it has a multichannel analog audio output, you can connect it to the A V receiver’ s multichannel input.
39 Connecting the A V Receiver —Continued W ith this hookup, you can use the tuner in your VCR or D VR to listen to your fav orite TV programs via the A V recei ver, which is useful if your TV has no audio outputs. • W ith connection , you can listen to the VCR or DVD recorder in Zone 2 or Zone 3.

58 First Time Setup —Contin ued Component Video Setup If you connect a video component to a COMPONENT VIDEO IN, you must assign that input to an input selector . For example, if you connect your D VD player to COMPONENT VIDEO IN 3, you must assign COM- PONENT VIDEO IN 3 to the D VD input selector .
59 First Time Setup —Continued If you connect a component to a digital audio input, you must assign that input to an input selector . For example, if you connect your CD player to OPTICAL IN 2, you must assign OPTICAL IN 2 to the “CD” input sele ctor .
60 First Time Setup —Contin ued If you connect a component to the A V receiv er’ s analog multichannel input, you must assign that input to an input selector . For example, if you connect your D VD player to the MUL TI CH input, you must assign it to the D VD input selector .
61 First Time Setup —Continued If the impedance of any speaker is 4 ohms or more but less than 6, set the Speaker I mpedance to 4 ohms. T o use bi-amping or bridging, you must change the “Speaker T ype” setting. For hookup information, see pages 27–30.

71 Basic Operations —Continued This section explains functions that can be used with an y input source. Y ou can adjust the b rightness of the display . Y ou can adjust the volume of each speaker while listen- ing to an input source. These temporary adjustments are cancelled when the A V recei ver is set to S tandby .
72 Basic Oper ations —Continued W ith the sleep timer , you can set the A V recei ver to turn off aut omatically after a specif ied period. If you need to cancel the slee p timer , press the [SLEEP] button repeatedly un til the SLEEP indicator disappears.
73 Listening to the Radio W ith the built-in tu ner , you can enjoy AM and FM radio stations and st ore your f av orite stations as presets for easy selection. T uning into AM/FM Radio Stations ■ A uto T uning Mode When tuned into a station, the TUNED indicator appears.

Note: Y ou can name your radio pr esets for easy identification (see page 110). 76 Listening to the Radio —Continued HD Radio technology brings digital radio to con ven- tional analog AM and FM radi o station s, with improved sound quality , better receptio n, and new data services. HD Radio technology provides CD-quality sound for FM stations and FM-quality sound for AM stations.
77 Listening to the Radio —Continued RDS only works in ar eas where RDS broadcasts are av ailable. When tuned to an RDS station, the RDS indi- cator appears. ■ What is RDS? RDS stands for Radio Data System and is a method of transmitting data in FM radi o signals.
78 Listening to the Radio —Continued Display ing Radio T ext (RT) When tuned to an RDS station that’ s broadcasting text information, the tex t can be displayed. Notes: • The message “W aiting” may appear while the A V receiv er waits for the R T information.
79 Listening to the Radio —Continued Selecting Multic ast Channels FM HD Radio stations can transmit multiple programs on the same frequenc y by using what are called multicast channels. If the current HD Radio station is broadcasting multicast channels, the SPS (secondary program ser- vices) indicator lights up.
80 Recor ding This section explains ho w to record the input source and how to r ecord audio and vi deo from separate sources. Notes: • The surround sound and DSP listening modes cannot be recorded. • Copy-protected DVDs cannot be recorded. • Sources connected to the analog multichannel input cannot be recorded.

91 Using the Listening Modes —Continued Onky o Original DSP Modes Mono Movie This mode is suitable for old movies and other mono sources. The center speaker outputs the sound as it is, while re verb is app lied to the sound output by the other speakers, gi ving presence to even mono material.
