En- 11 Connecting the Receiver Disc onnect the power cord from the electric al outlet before making any connections. The receiv er allo ws you to c onnect tw o sets of speakers. When two sets of speakers are connected, you can select which speaker set outputs s ound or use both sets to output sound simultaneously .
En- 12 Connecting the Receiver —Continued Using a suitable cable, connect the receiv er’ s SUBWOOFER PRE OUT to the input on your po wered subwoofer . If your subwoofer is unpo wered and you’ re using an exte rnal amplif ier , co nnect the SUBWOOFE R PRE OUT to the amp’ s input.
En- 13 Connecting the Receiver —Cont inued On the recei v er , th e factory def a ult for speaker impedance is “6 Ω ”. If you need to change the speaker impeda nce setting, read “Speaker Connection Precaution s” on page 11 ca refully before performing the procedure belo w .
En- 14 Connecting Antennas This section explains ho w to connect the supplied indoor FM antenna and AM loop antenna. The receiv er won’ t pick up any radio signals if no antenna is connected, so you must connect the antenna to use the tuner .
En- 15 Connecting Y our Components Connecting components • Before making an y connecti ons, read the manuals supp lied with your components. • Don’t connect the po wer cord until you’ ve co mpleted and double-chec ked all connections.

En- 21 Enjoying A udio Sources —Continued Y ou can adjust the brightness of the display . Press the [DIMMER] button repeatedly to select: dim, dimmer , or normal br ightness. W ith the sleep timer , you can se t the recei v er so that it turns off automatically after a specified period.
En- 22 Enjoying A udio Sources —Contin ued Press the [DIRECT] button. The message “DIRECT MODE” appears. When the DIRECT function is on, the tone controls are bypassed, so you can enjoy pure sou nd. T o cancel the DIRECT fu nction, press the [T ONE] button again, and the messa ge “T ONE MODE” appears.

This section explains ho w to record th e selected input source to a component with recording capability , and how to record audio from different sources.
En- 24 Listening to the Radio F or radio tuning to w ork properly , you must specify the radio frequency step used in your area. Note that when th is setting is changed, all radio prese ts are deleted.
