10 En Bef ore Using the Preamplifier Note • If the remot e controller doesn’t work reliably , try replac ing the batteries. • Don’t mix ne w and old batteries or different types of batteries. • If you intend not to use the re mote controller fo r a long time, remove the batteries to pre v ent damage from leakage or corrosion.

15 En Connecti ons Connections Note • Push plugs in all the way to make good connections ( loose connections can cause noise or malfunctions ). • T o prevent interference, keep audio cables away from power cords and speaker cables.
16 En Tip • T o re duce noise, do not tie the signal cable and po wer cable together . Wire them so that they are away from each other . Note • Never disconnect the power cord fr om the preamplifier while the other end is still plugged into a wall outlet.

24 En ■ 2.1 channel system (2 speakers and 1 subwoofer) This connection is not a vaila ble for su bwoofers that handl e only mono input . A separate con version cable is required.
25 En Turning On & Basic O perations Basic Operations Tip • After a certain period of warming up, the temperature of the preamplifier’ s components and internal temperature are stabilized, and the sound will soften. • The pre vious input source will appear on the display when the preamplifier turned on.
26 En Note • When the USB connector is not connected, you cannot select USB ev en if you press USB on the remote controller . The message “ NO USB ” appears.
27 En Y ou can adjust the bass , treble and bal ance. Note • The preamplifier will end the setu p if there is no operation for 8 seconds. • The tone controls are canceled when the Direct function is set to on. Adjusting the Bass, T reble and Balance 1 Press SETUP .
28 En When the Direct function is of f, the tone controls can be used to adjust the sound. When the Direct function is on, the tone controls are bypassed, so you can enjoy a pure sound, then front display goe s off and the Direct LED lights.
29 En Note • Always turn do wn the volu me before connecting you r headphones. Settings with SETUP of the remote controller can be also operated with the preampl ifier. Note • The preamplifier will end the setu p if there is no operation for 8 seconds.
30 En Pla ying the Onky o Compact Disc Pla yer The Onkyo compact disc player connected to the preamplifier is played from its remote controller . Note • Make sure the remote controller is pointed a t the compact disc player when using it. • Depending on the component , you may not be able to control with the remote controller .
31 En Pla ying Music Files on the PC This section explains ho w to play music files on a PC through the preamplifier. T o playback the audio data stored on your PC by using the preamplifier via USB port connection, you must install the dri ver on your PC from the Onkyo website.
32 En Controlli ng iPod & Other Components Using an Onky o Doc k Connect an Onkyo Dock to the preamplif ier, and play music files on iPod. Y ou can use the preamplifier’ s remote controller to control basic iPod functions and functionality depends on your iPod model and generation.
33 En Advanced O perations Custom Setup Y ou can switch the selector name to DC/DIG to run as the DOCK selector . ■ To can cel the as signment Press DISPLA Y again for 3 seconds. Note • DOCK can be selected for the Digital input source (COAX1, COAX2, OPT1, OPT2) input selector , but not at the same time.
34 En Y ou can set the volume when using headphones. Y ou can al so use preamplifier’ s MODE and Multi jog dial. See “Using MODE button” to perform this procedure on the preamplif ier ( ➔ 29 ). Note • When using the headphones, the balance settin g will not be applied.
35 En When ASb is turned on, the preamplif ier will automatically enter Standby m ode if there is no operation for 30 minutes with no audio signal input. Y ou can also use preamplifier’ s MODE and Multi jog dial. See “Using MODE button” to perform this procedure on the preamplif ier ( ➔ 29 ).
36 En Others T r oubleshooting If you hav e any trouble using the preamplifier, look for a solution in this section. • Make sure that the power cord is properly plugged into the wall out let ( ➔ 16 ). • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, wait 5 seconds or more, then plug it in again.
37 En • Make sure that the USB cable is plugged in firmly ( ➔ 15 ). • Make sure that the USB driver is installed suc cessfully ( ➔ 31 ). • Make sure that there is no unsupported file formats or signals. • The USB cable is unplugged. To stop the blinking of the display, turn the power ON/ OFF, or plug the USB cable again.
