En-11 Connections Connecting the AV Receiver Speaker Configuration The following table indicates the channels you should use depending on the number of speakers that you have. No matter how many speakers you use, a powered subwoofer is recommended for a really p owerful and solid bass.
Connections En-12 Connecting the Speaker Ca bles The speaker terminal s are color-coded for identification purpose. Speaker Connecti on Precautions Read the following before connecting your speakers: • You can connect speakers with an impedance of between 6 and 16 ohms.
Connections En-13 Using Powered Subwoofers To find the best position for your subwoofer, while playing a movie or some music w ith good bass, experiment by placing your subwoofer at va rious positions within the room, and choose the one that provides the most satisfying results.
Connections En-14 Connecting AV components a • Before making any AV connections, read the manuals supplied with your AV components. • Don’t connect the power cord until you’ve completed and double-checked all AV connections. • Push plugs in all the way to make good connections (l oose connections can cause noise or malfunctions).

Connections En-18 This section explains how to connect the s upplied indoor FM antenna and AM loop antenna. The AV receiver won’t pick up any radio signals without any antenna connected, so you must c onnect the antenna to use the tuner.

Windows Media Playe r 11 Setup This section explains how to configure Windows Media Player 11 so th at the AV receiver c an play the music files stored on your computer.

En-43 Advanced Operations On-screen Setup With the AV receiver connected to a TV, there are two ways of changing the settings on-screen: using the Quick Setup or the Setup Menu ( HOME ). ■ Quick Setup The Quick Setup provides quick access to frequently used settings.
Advanced Operations En-44 Note *1 • The video preview is not displayed when: – HDMI IN 6 / 7 is the current HDMI input source, or – No signal is present on the current input source. • The video of the currently-select ed input is displayed on the main screen, not on a preview thumbnail.

Advanced Operations En-46 Note • This procedure can also be performed on the AV receiver by using SETUP , the cursor buttons, and ENTER . • During Audyss ey 2EQ ® Room Correction an d Speaker Setup, messages, etc., that are displayed on the TV screen will appear on the AV receiver’s displa y.
Advanced Operations En-47 By way of optimized circuitry, this fu nction reduces power consumption when the AV rece iver is in standby mode. The HYBRID STANDBY indicator will li ght in either of the following conditions: –“ HDMI Th rough ” is enabled (the HDMI indicator is off).
Advanced Operations En-48 Main Menu Input/Output Assi gn Monitor Out ■ Resolution ` Through : Select this to pass video through the AV receiver at the same resolution and with no conversion. ` Auto : Select this to have the AV receiver automat ically convert video at resolutions supported by your TV.
Advanced Operations En-49 Component Video Input If you connect a video compone nt to a component video input, you must assign that inpu t to an input selector. For example, if you connect your Blu- ray Disc/DVD player to COMPONENT VIDEO IN , you must assign “ IN1 ” to the “ BD/DVD ” input selector.
Advanced Operations En-50 Main Menu Speaker Setup Here you can check the setti ngs made by Audyssey 2EQ Room Correction and Speaker Se tup function, or set them manually, which is useful if you change one of the connected speakers after using Audyssey 2EQ Room Correction and Spea ker Setup function.
Advanced Operations En-51 ■ Double Bass ` On ` Off Turn this setting on to boos t bass output by feeding bass sounds from the front left, ri ght, and cen ter channels to the subwoofer.
Advanced Operations En-52 Main Menu Audio Adjust With the Audio Adjust func tions and sett ings, you can adjust the sound and list ening modes as you like. Multiplex/Mono ■ Multiplex Input Channel ` Main ` Sub ` Main/Sub This setting determines which channel of a stereo multiplex source is output.
Advanced Operations En-53 ■ TrueHD Loud ness Management ` Off ` On This setting specifies whethe r or not to apply the Late Night processing on a Dolby TrueHD source. Note • When this setting is set to “ Off ”, the La te Night function for Dolby TrueHD sources is au tomatically fixed to “ Off ” ( ➔ page 45 ).
Advanced Operations En-54 ■ Dynamic EQ ` Off ` On : Audyssey Dynamic EQ ® becomes active. The Dynamic EQ indicator will light. With Audyssey Dynamic EQ, yo u can enjoy great sound even when listening at low volume leve ls.
Advanced Operations En-55 IntelliV olume ■ IntelliVolume ` –12dB to 0dB to +12dB in 1 dB steps. With IntelliVolume, you can set the input level for each input selector individually. This is useful if one of your source components is louder or quieter than the others.
Advanced Operations En-56 Picture Adju st Using Picture Adjust, you can adjust the picture quality and reduce any noise appearing on the screen. To view the TV pictur e while setting, press ENTER . To return to the previous screen, press RETURN . ■ Wide Mode *1* 6 This setting determin es the aspect ratio.
Advanced Operations En-57 ■ Brightness *1*2 *4 ` –50 to 0 to +50 With this setting, you can ad just the picture brightness. “ –50 ” is the darkest. “ +50 ” is th e brightest. ■ Contrast *1*2*4 ` –50 to 0 to +50 With this setting, you can adjust contrast.
Advanced Operations En-58 Main Menu Listening Mode Preset You can assign a default liste ning mode to each input source that will be selected automatically when you select each input source. For example, you can set the default listening mode to be used with Dolby Di gital input signals.
Advanced Operations En-59 Main Menu Miscellaneous Volume Setup ■ Maximum Volume ` Off , 30 to 79 With this setting, you can limit the maximum volume.
Advanced Operations En-60 HDMI ■ HDMI Control(RIHD) ` Off ` On Turn this setting on to allow p -compatible components connected via HDM I to be controlled by the AV receiver ( ➔ page 86 ).
Advanced Operations En-61 ■ Audio Return Channel (ARC) ` Off ` Auto : The audio signal from your TV tuner can be sent to HDMI OUT of the AV receiver . The audio return channel (ARC) f unction allows an ARC capable TV to send th e audio stream to HDMI OUT of the AV receiver.
Advanced Operations En-62 Network This section explains how to configure the AV receiver’s network settings manually. If your router’s DHCP server is enabled, you don’t need to change any of these settings, as the AV receiver is set to use DHCP to configure itself au tomatically by default (i.
Advanced Operations En-63 Main Menu Remote Controller Setup Remote ID ■ Remote ID ` 1 , 2 , or 3 When several Onkyo component s are used in the same room, their remote ID codes may overlap. To differentiate the AV receiver from other components, you can change its remote ID from “ 1 ”, to “ 2 ” or “ 3 ”.
Advanced Operations En-64 Zone 2 In addition to the main liste ning room, you can also enjoy playback in another room, or as we call Zone 2. And, you can select a diffe rent source for each room. There are two ways you ca n connect Zone speakers: 1. Connect them directly to the AV receiver.
Advanced Operations En-65 ■ Operating on the AV receiver ■ Operating on the remote controller To control Zone 2, you must press ZONE2 on the remote controller first.
En-66 Controlling Other Components iPod/iPhone Playback via Onkyo Dock RI Dock With the RI Dock, you can easily play the music of your iPod/iPhone, or watch the slid eshows and videos of your iPod/iPhone on a TV.
Controlling Other Components En-67 By pressing the REMOTE MODE button that’s been programmed with the remote control code for your Dock, you can control your iPod/iPhone in the Dock with the buttons described further in this section. See “Entering Remote Control Codes” for details on entering a remote control code ( ➔ page 69 ).
Controlling Other Components En-68 Controlling Other Components You can use the AV receiver’s remot e controller to cont rol your other AV components. This section explains how to enter the remote control code for a component that you want to control : DVD, TV, CD, etc.
Controlling Other Components En-69 You’ll need to enter a code for each component that you want to control. Note • Though the prov ided remote cont rol codes are correct at the time of release, they are subject to change. You can change the configuration of colored b uttons, with which REMOTE MODE buttons are preset.
Controlling Other Components En-70 Onkyo components that are connected via u are controlled by pointing the re mote controller at the AV receiver, not the component.
Controlling Other Components En-71 Controlling a Blu-ray Disc/DVD Player, HD DVD Player or DVD Recorder BD/DVD is preprogrammed with the remote control code for controlling a compone nt that supports the p *1 (limited to some models). The component must be able to receive remote control commands via p and be connected to the AV rec eiver via HDMI.

Appendix En-83 Connection Tips and Video Signal Path The AV receiver supports seve ral connection formats for compatibility with a wi de ra nge of AV equipment. The format you choose will depe nd on the formats supported by your components. Use the foll owing sections as a guide.
Appendix En-84 Audio components can be conne cted by using any o f the following audio c onnection formats: analog, optical, coaxial, or HDMI. When choosing a connection form at, bear in mind that the AV receiver does not convert digital input signals for analog line outputs and vice v ersa.

Appendix En-87 ■ How to connect and setup 1 Confirm the connection and s ettings. 1. Connect the HDMI OUT jack to the HDMI input jack of the T V. 2. Connect the audio output from the TV to the OPTICAL IN 2 jack of the AV receiver using an optical digital cable.
