System Requirements The following hardware and software ar e required to install and run this s oft - ware. Computer: I BM PC/AT compatible machine w i t h an i486SX or better CPU running Windows 95, 98 or M e (Pentium or better CPU recommended). Memory: 8 MB minimum (32 MB or more recommended, depending o n the application t o be printed).
Installing t h e Software Ins tall th e Windows 95/98/Me p r i n t er driver software on the provided floppy disk in your P C . This description uses a PC running Windows 98 as an example. Select [Search fo r the bes t dr iv er fo r your device] and click [Next].
Insert th e floppy disk into the PC's fl opp y drive. Select [Floppy disk drive] and click [Next]. Fo ll o w the on-screen instructions. 4 5 7.
Manual installation Cl ic k the [Start] bu tt on of Windows, point [Setup] and click [Printer]. Double-click t he [AddPrinter] icon. The [Add Printer W izard] dialog box appears. Select [Local printer] as the printer connection destination. Olympus does not guarantee that this printer will operate corr ectly on a network.
Insert the floppy disk i n t o the PC 's floppy drive and s ele ct [U se disk]. Se t th e floppy di s k drive as th e [Copy source of distributed file.] The drive name of t h e floppy disk drive varies d epending on the setup of each P C . Check your PC's i nstruction manual if yo u a r e not sure.
Uninstallation When the printer driver software is n o longer necessary, uninstall it as described below. Click th e [Start] button of W indows, point [Setup] and click [Printer]. The [Printer] window appears. Click t he [OLYMPUS P-200] icon. In th e [File] menu, click [Delete].
Printing You can print images created using commercially available image processing or retouching applications using this printer driver software. Run th e application and open the images you want t o print. Set the image si ze to 1280 x 960 pixels or less f o r printing, image processing o r retouching.
Click [OK] t o close the [Printer Setup] dialog box. In th e [File] menu, click [Print]. Th e [Print] d ial og b ox appears. Set t h e number o f prints [Copies]. The print copies ca n be set u p to 25. The dialog b ox shown above is an example using t h e Olympus CAMEDIA Master 2.
To cancel printing W h e n th e print m onitor is displayed: Click [Cancel printing]. When data is le ft in the Windows printer spooler: Click the [Start] button. Point [Setup] and click [Printer]. Double-click [ OLYMPUS P-2 00 ] to ope n the [OLYMPUS P-200] w in - dow.
Tips for printing To get the best printing results, b e sure to read the instruction manual of t he application y ou are using. Information on ho w to change th e resolution and imag e size is especially important. I n addition, read the following tip.
Split Print Yo u ca n split a sheet of print paper into multiple planes and print th e sa me image on e ach of them. In the [File] menu o f the application, click [Print]. The [Print] dialog box appears. Click [Properties]. [OLYMPUS P-200-LPT1: Properties] appears.
Images ca n be printed in one of the f ollow ing split methods. 4-split pri nt 9-split print 16-split print To obtain correct split prints (with an application that prints i ma ges ac- cording to th e resolution o f the printer): Se t the resolution t o 320 dpi and image size to 12 80 x 960 pixels.
Adjusting th e Image Quality You ca n adjust the brightness, d ep th, contrast and sharpness of an ima ge f or pri nti ng. [Brightness], [Depth] and [C ontrast] e ach can b e adjusted in 21 steps between - 10 and +10. [Sharpness] can be adjusted in 11 steps between -5 and +5.
Troubleshooting Guide To solve problems you ma y experience with the printer driver, check th e trou- bleshooting guide before calling f o r service. If th e problem persists, contact you dealer f or information wha t to do next. Please al so refer t o the Instruction manual provided w ith the printer.
Symptom PC operation is unstable. Installation f r o m floppy disk is impossible. Cause The PC 's memory may no t have enough free memory. There ma y not be enough f r e e space on the hard disk. Treatment If more than one applications is open, close all unnecessary applications before printing.

Introduction Thank you f or purchasing this OLYMPUS digital color printer. Read this manual and warranty carefully. Keep them handy for future reference and when requesting service. Make sure that the da te of purchase and dealer's name are included o n your warranty.
Safety precautions It i s dangerous to tamper with the printer because this could cause fire o r electric shock, possibly resulting i n death or serious injury. Before u se, read the safety precautions carefully an d foll ow them f or proper handling.
WARNING Do no t damage the power cord. A damaged power cord may result in fire o r electric shock. T o prevent the cord fr om being damaged, DO NOT: Jerk th e c or d to pu ll it out. Bend t h e cord excessively. Hea t t he cord. Place heavy objects on t he cord.
WARNING Do not use the printer in the following places. Unstable or i ncl in ed surfaces. Places exposed to d u s t and o th er particles (such as outdoors, particularly on a beach). Places subject to rain and water drops, o r enclosed places where co ndensation could occur such as inside a plastic bag.
WARNING Observe the following wh en using t he optional B -200NH rechargeable battery. Never disassemble, destroy or short-circuit the battery, or throw it i n a fire. Doing s o m ay cause an explosion. To recharge the battery, mount it on the printer.
NOTE Do not block t he vent. Doing so ma y cause the printer to h ea t u p, p o ssibly resulting in fire or electric shock. Do not blo ck the vent. Do not pu t the printer in the following places. - Place with po o r ventilation - O n a so f t surface li k e a rug o r be d Do not p ut the printer on an unstable surface such as a shaky table.
Care a nd storage Bew ar e of moisture condensation. Moisture condensation means tha t water vapor in th e air becomes liquid and sticks to th e p ri nt e r surface. Th is phenomenon is caused by th e following. Rapidly heating the room in which the printer is placed C oo l a i r (from a n ai r conditioner, etc.

Setting u p the printer Connecting t he power supply To supply power fro m t he provided AC adapter 1 . Plug th e printer power co rd into th e AC adapter. 2. Plug the AC adapter power co rd into a wall outlet, th en plug t he ot h e r e nd of th e printer power cord into the printer's DC power input connector.
Notes • Recharging time varies depending o n th e remaining battery power and environmental conditions. • E v e n whe n th e battery i s installed, i t is no t recharged while the printer i s se t t o ON . Recha r g i n g only takes place when t h e printer i s OFF.
4. Remaining battery power indication The remaining battery power i s indicated f or 1 2 seconds a f t e r th e printer is turned ON and during printing. The remaining battery power indicator segments light according to the following. lights (turns off automatically): Th e ba tter y is fully charged.
Loading t he i n k ribbon cartridge Note • When using the ink ribbon cartridge compartment f or the first time, remove the head protection sheet fr om th e inside. Always use the ink ribbon cartridge and print paper supplied together in the same carton.
If the cartridge compartment li d does no t close: Remov e the ink ribbon cartridge, and then re-insert i t. Cautions • The cartridge compartment ma y become very hot during or after operation. Do not insert yo ur finger or hand inside th e cartridge compartment.
Storage pr ecaution • D o n ot store an in k ribbon cartridge in a place subject to hig h temperature or humidity, excessive dust or direct sunlight. Handling th e i n k rib bon cartridge To replace a n ink ribbon cartridge Op e n the cartridge compartment lid, take out the used in k ribbon cartridge and replace it w ith a new one.
Loading print paper Cautions • Be careful not to stain or damage the paper feed guide. • Do not touch the print surface (the glossy surface wi th nothing printed on it) when handling print paper. • Do not leave print paper in a place subject t o excessive dust.
Note • If you need t o transport the paper feed cassette with print paper loaded in it , p u t the paper feed cassette in a ba g or other container. Storage precautions • Do no t store print paper in a place subject t o high temperature or humidity, excessive dust or direct sunlight.
Basic P rinting Printing images recorded on the c a r d (SmartMedia or CompactFlash) Th e following procedure describes how to select a single image f rom the card and print it on a single (full- scre.
Note • Wh en you us e a card that contains images captured by a different c ame ra, th e frame numbers displayed b y y o ur camera m ay not correspond w it h the ones shown by the printer. To make s u r e th at the printer prints the correct image, use the index print function (see p a g e 33).
• SmartMedia cards alwa ys have priority, ev en wh en a CompactFlash c ard h as already been inserted first. If you w a nt to us e data from th e CompactFlash card, press the S m artMedia/ Compact Flash button to select i t. • Keep th e c ard cover op en while SmartMedia is inserted in th e printer.
• If CompactFlash cannot be inserted easily, do not force it in , bu t r em ove i t, check the Com pactFlash insertion ori ent ati on an d retry insertion from th e beginning. • The image recorded in CompactFlash should b e printed as i t was recorded using an Olympus digital camera.
Printing Press the (+ ) or (-) button t o se l e c t the frame nu mb er of t he image to be printed. To change the frame number display to file name display: T h e frame number display on the control panel can be switched t o fi l e name display. Press an d hold th e D AT E and NUMBER button s simultaneously f or about 2 seconds.
Note • If y our digital camera does no t assign file names using 7 digits, use the frame number display function (with the FRAME indicator lit). The corresponding frame numbers can be checked by performing index printing (see page 33 ).
Cautions • Never a tt emp t to insert or remove the SmartMedia or CompactFlash c ard while the ACCESS/CHARGE indicator on the operation panel is blinking. Otherwise, t h e ca rd 's formatting may b e destroyed, making it unusable. • Do n ot insert or remove the SmartMedia or CompactFlash c ard during printing.
• Do n ot disconnect t he AC adapter during printing, even if the optional rechargeable battery is loaded in the printer. Als o do not connect th e A C adapter during battery-powered printing operation.
Oth er Printing Functions Making split prints You ca n select th e same image f o r 2-split, 4-split, 9-split o r 16-split planes and print them on single sheet of print paper. Press th e NUMBER button to select t h e number of print copies display Select t h e desired number of print copies w i th t h e (+) or (- ) button. Any number between 1 and 2 5 can be selected (see st ep 2 on pa g e 28).
Select t h e l as t frame number (FRAME) by pressing the NUMBER button, then select t he desired frame number w he re yo u want to start printing with the (+) or ( -) button. ( 3 0 images including and located before t he s e l e ct e d frame number or file name will be printed in reverse order.
Printing a ll recorded images in a SmartMedia or CompactFlash ca rd Note • In all-frame printing, all recorded images on th e card will be printed in reverse order starting from t he selected frame. Mak e sur e that th e l as t frame number is displayed as the s ta rt in g frame number when printing all im ages.
Pr es s the NUMBER button to select th e f r a m e number display function (FRAME). Select t h e first frame number to be printed with the (+) or ( -) button. All-frame printing starts from th e selected frame number, a nd images ar e printed in reverse order.
Printing DPOF-reserved images Yo u c a n print al l the images reserved f o r DP OF printi ng by th e digital camera. Images can be printed as one f u l l size image per sheet. However, not e th at certain digital cameras do not have the DPOF facility.
Notes • DPOF allows printing of images designated by Olympus digital cameras provided with the D POF reservation facility. • When DPO F reservation is used, only sharpness can be adjusted with this printer. • If tri mmin g is specified in the DPOF reservation, printing may take l onger.
Before you begin: 2 Select t he image fo r printing. Whe n the standard indicator or o n e o f the split print indicators i s selected above, press th e NUMBER button to select the frame number selection function. The n se le c t the frame number of t he desired image with the (+) or (- ) button.
Adjusting the sharpness Note • With som e types o f images, t he contour ma y be excessively enhanced. Press th e SHARPNESS button to select th e degree of contour correction in prints. SHARPNESS button Every time you press th e SHARPNESS button, the indicator changes in th e order of NORMAL, SO FT and SHARP.

For Y o u r Information The control panel displays 00 0 wh en the card is inserted. There is no recognizable image data on the card. Check y o u r ca m era's manual to confirm that its recording format is compatible wi th the printer (DCF/ EXIF).
The ERROR, PAPER/RIBBON a nd PRINTING indicators blink. Paper is jammed. Remove jammed paper. ( S ee below.) T h e ACCESS/CHARGE indicator blinks. The SmartMedia or CompactFlash card is being accessed. Wait a fe w minutes without removing the card. Fo r Your Information The ERROR indicator blinks.
If y ou open the cartridge compartment li d by mistake during printing: 1 . Close th e cartridge compartment l id to e ject print paper automatically. 2. I f the print paper i s not ejected automatically, remove the paper feed cassette a nd remove the print paper projecting fr om the paper feed ca ssette co m partment by hand.
About the i nk ribbon cartridge an d print paper Fo r Yo u r Information Always use the in k ribbon cartridge and print paper specified b y Olympus. They are available by ordering the following Olympus model number ( a s o f October 2000). Print Pack, Standard S e t: T h e standard s e t contains a n ink ribbon cartridge and sheets of print paper.
