PREPARATIONS BEFORE TAKING PICTURES The OM-10's circuits are powered b y two 1.5V alkaline-manganese or silver oxide batteries. Without them, t he shutter of this el ectronic single len s reflex camera will no t function. This section is devoted t o explaining the preparations which you must go through before proceeding to take pictures.

INSERTING T HE BATTERIES Remove the cover of t he battery chamber. Insert t wo 1.5V alkaline-manganese batteries L R 4 4 (A76). Replace the cover. (NOTE) Two 1 .

PHOTOGRAPHIC TECHNIQUES Th e various functions o f the OM-1 0 an d t h e wi d e variety o f lenses, flash, winder, a n d system accessories which can be us ed with i t allow you to fully master all th e techniques which automati c photography can make possible.
CONTROLLING T HE EXPOSURE When taking pictures i n a place which is either too d ar k or to o bright, even if yo u follow t he aperture guidelines given on pa g e 17 , there will b e a tendency to result i n whitish photographs (overexposure), or darkened ones (underex- posure), or e v en blurred images.
When photograhing f ast moving subjects, there is a marked tendency to obtain a blurred im a ge of the subject. This can be ma de us e of as a te chni- que t o g ive th e impression of movement, by inten- tionally allowing the image to be blurred, while making us e of the shutter speed priority function.
When shooting against the light, or if th e subject is standing before a window, the face tends to ap - pe a r dark on the i m age. In this case, u se t he ex - posure compensation dial to obtain a correctly exposed photograph. Lift the compensation dial and change t he fi lm speed s et o n t he dial (within ±2).
LONG EXPOSURES Indoors w hen it is dark, or when photographing at night, us e th e "BULB" setting an d t a ke the pictures by resorting t o lo ng exposures. Of course, blu r can easily occur in long exposures s o it is re- commended to use a tripod and a cable release.

USING T HE W INDER 2 Fast moving subjects, such as in sports, car racing, an d the like, make you wish to take pictures a t a faster pace. The t ime spent winding th e film ma y me a n t hat a great chance is lost.

MAKING USE O F THE DEPTH OF FIELD When y o u have a subject in focus, there is a range i n the for e a nd the background which is clearly defined in t he picture. This range is call ed depth of field. Th e larger the F number becomes, the wider this clearly defined range becomes, a nd th e background becomes sharper.

When you do n ot u s e th e camera, remove it from th e c a s e a n d store i n a dry, ventilated place, making sure that the shutter is set f re e f ro m tension and the selector lever at th e O F F position.
