DIOPTER ADJUSTMENT Turn the diopter adjustment dial until th e viewfinder display becomes clear. Turn to the right if you are farsighted or to the left if you are nearsighted.
LOADING TH E BATTERY 1 . Close the lens barrier. Push OPEN to open the battery compartment cover 2. Insert the new battery correctly. (One 3V lithium battery. CR123A or DL123A) Notes: • Dispose o f used batteries i n the battery recycling boxes at stores selling batteries.
Notes: • About 1 5 rolls o f 24-exposure fi lm can be used with on e new battery. • Keep a spare battery o n hand when go ing on a long trip or to a co ld area. • Sweat, oil, and so on can prevent a battery's terminals from m aking electrical contact.
Open the lens barrier until you feel a click. Display: lights (and turns off automatically). Meaning: Battery is OK. You c an shoot. Display: blinks and other indicators are displayed normally. Meaning: Battery power i s low and battery should be replaced.
PRO PER SHUTTER RELEASE Practice before loading the film. 1 . Depress the shutter release button halfway to loc k the focus. • The gr ee n lamp next to the viewfinder lights. 2. Depress th e shutter release but ton full y to release the shutter and take the picture.
LOADING T H E FILM 1 . Open the back cover. D o n ot touch t he inside o f the camera, especially t h e lens. 2. Insert the film cartridge until it cl icks.
A. Correct Make sure the film is lying flat before closing the back cover. B . Incorrect Push the film cartridge gently to position the film correctly. Then press t h e left side o f the back cover an d close i t securely. I f t h e film i s no t lying flat, t h e film m a y no t advance t o the first frame.
3. Align the film leader with the point of t he arrow, an d close t he back cover. T h e film automatically advances to t he first frame. Th e film does not overlap any of th e positioning guid es (A). Then close the back cover. 4. Open t he l ens barrier until you feel a click.
TAKING PICTURES 1 . Open th e lens barrier until you feel a clic k. The lens extends slightly, t he fl as h pops up, and the LC D panel t u r ns on. Note: When th e flash i s held down, t he camera will no t activate. Release your finger from t he flash.
2 . Aim th e cam era a t your subject. U se t he zoom lever fo r telephoto or wide- angle photography. 20.
How to Use the Zoom Lever Telephoto: Pull t he lever to the "T" side t o zoom in. Wide angle: Push th e l ever to the "W " side to zoom out.
3. Position th e autofocus mark o n your subject. 4. Depress the shutter release b ut to n halfway to adjust the f ocus. Focus has been correctly adjusted and the green lamp lights. Exposure will also b e adjusted automatically. WARNING: SERIOUS EYE DAMAGE MA Y RESULT FROM LOOKING DIRECTLY AT TH E SU N THROUGH TH E VIEWFINDER.
5. Depress the shutter release button fully t o take the picture. Note: Keep your fingers a n d the strap away from t he lens, autofocus wi ndows and flash. Working distance: 0 . 8 m (2.6 ft ) ~ (infinity) Notes: • When t h e subject i s closer t ha n the minimum working distance, th e shutter will no t release.
Multi autofocus This camera h a s a built-in multi autofocus system. With this system, the camera automatically se t s t h e focus o n a subject even i n compositions where th e subject m a y no t b e i n t h e center o f th e frame.
AFTER SHOOTING 1 . Close t he lens ba rrier slowly a nd carefully. The lens and fl as h w i l l retract automatically. 2. Close the lens barrier completely. Caution: Do not forcibly close th e lens barrier as it will interfere with lens retraction. Note: T he power is turned of f automatically after 4 hours.
UNLOADING T H E FILM T h e camera automatically rewinds the film when yo u reach the end of a roll. A ft er the motor stops and starts blinking on t he L CD panel, open the back cover and remove th e film. Rewinding the film before the end of the roll Press the mid-roll rewind bu tton gently with the t ip of nail and the like.
TAKING PANORAMA PICTURES* Se t the swit ch to PANORAMA. Ca ut io n: T o avoid malfunction, d o not touch th e sliding panorama borde rs inside the camera when the back cover i s open in the Panorama mode. Notes: • Always s et th e panorama switch to either end, no t midway between the tw o ends.
• Availability of panorama format film processing facilities varies according to area. We recommend that you consult your local film processor o r camera dealer before taking pictures i n t he Panorama mode. • When pictures taken i n the Panor ama mode ar e p ri nt e d in the standard size , black strips appear at top aand bottom of prints.
Printing the Date and time i n the Panorama Mode With this camera, the date and time can be included even in the Panorama mode, but th e characters w ill be slightly larger than normal. F o r QUARTZDATE/PANORAMA models only. Close-up Correction in the Panorama Mode A t about 0.
USING THE FLASH AND SHOOTING MODES This camera ha s six shooting modes. Us e these modes in accordance with th e photographic conditions and you r purpose. Setting th e Modes Each time th e shooting mode button is pressed, the mode will change sequentialty a s shown o n page 31.

AUTO FLASH Th e flash fires automatically in dark places, with backlighting and under fluorescent or other artificial lighting. The orange lamp lights when the shutter release button is depressed halfway. Notes: • Wh en th e orange l am p is blinking, the flash is being recharged an d the shutter won' t release.
RED-EYE REDUCTION FLASH Significantly reduces the phenomenon of "red-eye" (when a subject's eyes appear red i n flash photography). I n the flash mode, the c a me r a will fire a series o f low-power pre- flashes before th e r egular f l ash.
Th e effectiveness o f red-eye reduction v ar ies depending on the individual characteristics of subjects. IMPORTANT: B e sure to hold the camera still until the shutter releases.
OFF (FLASH OVERRIDE) When you don't want the flash t o fire (even in the dark) or when you want to shoot such subjects as fireworks. Us e this mode in situations where flash photography i s not desired or is prohibited or in twilight o r night scenes.
FILL-IN FLASH (Forced Activation) When yo u want the flash t o fire f o r ea c h shot. T h e flash fires r egardless o f available li g h t . U s e this m o d e t o compensate fo r a shadow cast o n th e subject's face (such a s t h e shadow o f a tree).
NIGHT SCENE FLASH When taking pictures o f a night scene, this mode produces clear images. Notes: • To avoid camera shake, th e us e of a tripod i s recommended since a slow shutter speed (down to approximately 4 seconds) i s automatically selected i n low- light s it uations.
RED-EYE REDUCTION NIGHT SCENE FLASH MODE You can take pictures o f people with a ni g ht scene background while reducing the "red-eye" phenomenon. Notes: • Except for th e pre-flashes, this mode is th e same as the Night Scene Flash mode. • Read precautionary remarks i n "Red-Eye Reduction Flash" (p.
SPOT MODE 1 . Press the se lftimer/remote control and flash mode buttons simultaneously to enter the Spot mode. 3 . Reposition your subject i n the picture frame while keeping t he shutter release button depressed halfway. Then press the shutter release button fully. After t he Spot mo de h as been engaged or disengaged, check the selftimer/remote control and flash mode settings.
The use of the Spot mode is recommended in the following cases: • When there is a n object in front of t h e main subject. • When the subject is on the edge of the frame. • When the background is brighter than the subject (the subject is backlit).
I n these situations, first f ocus on a different subject at a similar distance, and then reposition the correct subject in the picture frame. Subjects with low contrast Subjects that do no t contain .

USING THE RC-200 REMOTE CONTROL (optional) 1 . Press the button to display To cancel this mode, press the button again. 2. Aim the remote control a t the camera, an d press t he button.
WARNINGS: • KEEP THE REMOTE CONTROL OU T TH E REACH O F CHILDREN. I F A CHILD SWALLOWS THE REMOTE CONTROL, CONTACT A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY. • NEVER EXPOSE THE REMOTE CONTROL TO EXCESSIVE HEAT OR OPEN FLAME. Notes: • U s e the remote control within a range that can be seen in the viewfinder.

CORRECTING THE DATE (for QUARTZDATE/DELUXE models only) 1 . Keep the MODE button depressed t o bring the year indication to blinking. The year indication will start blinking. D o n ot use a n instrument with a sharp tip. 2. Press the SET button to correct t he year.
3. Press the MODE button again. The month indication wi l l start blinking. 4. Repeat pressing o f th e SET and MODE buttons until th e hours and the minutes have been set. 5. Press the MODE button fo r completion. • The indication becomes "year- month-day".
VISUAL CONFIRMATION FI NDER (for DELUXE model only) This camera incorporates a shutter release visual confirmation function. This momentarily darkens the viewfinder during sh utter re l ease to provide you with confirmation that the shutter has been released.
CARE AN D STORAGE • D o not leave the camera i n an y place exposed to excessive heat, humidity, or direct su n li g h t — for example, in a car or on the beach. • D o no t expose the camera to formalin o r naphthalene. • I f th e camera gets wet, w i p e i t with a dry towel.
• Do n o t expose th e camera to dust o r sand as this could cause serious da m age. • Do not shake or shock the camera. • D o n ot apply excessive force t o the zoom lens. • Keep the camera in a well- ventilated place. • D o not expose th e camera to extreme heat (over 40°C/104°F) or to extreme cold (below -10°C/14°F).
• When transporting the camera from a cold place to a warm place or i n th e event of a sudden temperature change, p u t the camera into a plastic bag. This allows the camera's temperature to change slowly. Once the camera ha s adjusted to th e new temperature, you can remove i t from th e ba g an d use it.
• Avoid leaving th e camera unused f o r long periods of tim e. This ca n cause mo ld t o grow o n the cam era a s w el l as other problems. Try to press the shutter release button and check t h e operation of the camera be for e use. • Some airport X-ray machines can d am age the film i n you r camera.
WEATHERPROOF CAMERA This c amera is designed to be water- resistant; however, it i s n ot designed fo r underwater use or to b e subjected to being saturated. Seawater can be especially damaging t o your camera due to salt content. Note the following warnings a nd take the necessary precautions i f your camera becomes wet.
These gaskets protect the interior of the camera from becoming w et in the event the camera is splashed with water. Check these gaskets often and carefully remove any sand or dust to maintain this protective seal. Whenever your camera gets wet, take the following precautions to m aintain your camera i n good working order.
Do no t touch the rubber gasket with excessive force. D o n o t r emove th e gaskets. Th e gaskets in your camera should be replaced after approximately three years to i nsure consistently good weatherproof performance. They may need more frequent replacement depending on use a nd wear.
