General information About your device The wire less dev ice des cribe d in this guide is approved for use on the GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900 and WCDMA 900, 1900, and 2100 MHz networks.
Your service provider may have requested that c ertain features be disabled or not activated in your device. If so , these features will not appear on you r device menu. Your device may also have customized it ems such as menu names, me nu order, and icons.

Use only compatible MicroSD cards approved by Nokia for use with this device. Nokia uses approved industry standards for memory cards, but some brands may not be fully compatible with this device. Incompatible cards may damage the card and the device and corrupt data stored on the card.
1 Remove the back cover if in place, o bse rve the battery contacts, and insert the battery. 2 Replace the back cover. Charge the battery Your battery has been partially charged at the factory. If the device indicates a low charge, do the following: 1 Connect the charger to a wall outlet.

GSM antenna Your device may have internal and external an tennas. Avoid touching the antenna area unnecessarily while the antenna is transmit ting or receiving. Contact with antenna s affects the communication qu ality and may ca use a higher power level during operation and may reduce the ba ttery life.
Strap 1 Open the back cover. 2 Thread the strap, and tighten it. 3C l o s e t h e b a c k c o v e r . Calls Make and answer a call To make a call, enter the phone number, including the country and area code if necessary, and pre ss the call key. To a djust the volume of the earpiece or headset during the phone call, scroll up or down.
Make a call using speed dialling In the standby mode, press and hold the desired number key. Write text Text modes To enter text (for example, when writing me ssages) you can use traditional or predictive text input.
Navigate the menus The device functions are grouped into menus. Not all menu functions or option items are described here. In the home screen, select Menu and the desired menu and submenu. Exit the current menu level Select Exit or Back . Return to the home screen Press the end key.
Only devices that have compatible feat ures can receive and display multimedia messages. The appearance of a message may vary depending on th e receiving device. The wireless ne twork may limi t the size of MM S messages. If the inserted picture exceeds this limit, the device may make it s m aller so that it can be sent by MMS.
4 Select Send to and a contact. Nokia Mail Access your mail account with you r device to read, write, and send mail. This mail application is different fr om the SMS mail function. Before you can use mail, you must have a n ma il account from an mail service provider.
New mail no tifications Your device can automatically ch eck your ma il account at set inte rvals, and issu e a notification when ne w mail is received. Select Menu > Messagi ng > More > E-mail . 1 Select E-mail settings > Edit mailboxes .
Contacts Select Menu > Contacts . You can save names and phone numbers in the dev ice memory or on the SIM card. In the device memory, you can save contacts with nu mbers and text items. Na mes and numbers saved on the SIM card a re indicated with .
Select the desired profile and from the following: Activate — Activa te the profile. Personalis e — Modify the profile settings. Timed — Set the profile to be a ctive until a certain time. When th e time set for the profile expires, the previous profile that was not timed becomes a ctive.

Extras Your device may include some games and Java ™ applications specially designed for your device. Select Menu > Applicatio ns > Extras . Open a game or application Select Games , Collecti on , or Memory card , an d a game or an application.
Video mode Open the vi deo camera Press and hold the captur e key, and scroll right. Start recording a video clip Press the capture key. Switch between camera and vi deo mode In camera or video mode, scroll left or right. FM radio The FM radio depends on an antenna ot her than the wirele ss device antenna.
Start recording Select the record icon. Start recording during a call Select Options > More > Record . When recording a call, ho ld the phone in the normal position near to your ear. The recording is saved in the Recordings folder in Gallery. Listen to the latest record ing Select Options > Pl ay last recorded .
Mute or unmute th e media player Press # . Leave the media player playing in the background Press the end key. Close the media playe r Press and hold the end key.
Nokia Map Loader With the Nokia Map Loader applicat ion for PC, you can download maps and voice guidance files from the internet. A memory card with sufficient space must be inserted in your device.
Navigate to your destinat ion You can upgrade Maps to a full navig ation sy stem to be used by car and by foot. You need a regional licence for the full navigation system, and a compatible GPS receiver. The car navigation is fully voice-guided with two and three-dimensional map v iews.
Navigate on foot Select Settings > Routing settings > Route selection > On foot . This optimises the routes you create for navigation on foot. Web or Internet You can access various intern et services with your phone browser. The appearance of the web pages may vary due to screen si ze.
Save energy When you have fully ch arged the battery and disconnected the charger from the device, unplug the charger fr om the wall outlet. You do not need to charge your battery so ofte n if you do the following: • Close and disable applications, servic es, and connections when not in use.
Safe removal. Always switch the device off and di sconnect the charger before removing th e battery. Proper charging. U nplug the charger from the electric al plug and the device when not in use. Do not leave a fully charged batte ry connected to a charger , since overcharging may shorte n its lifetime.
