ACCESSORIES AN D BATTERIES Use only approved accessories and batteries. Do not connect incompatible products. WATER-RESI STANCE Your device is not water-resistant. Keep it dry. About your de vice The wireless device described in this guide is approved for use on the GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/19 00 MHz.
When using this device, ob ey all laws and respect lo cal customs, privacy and legitimate rights of others, including co pyrights. Copyright protect ion may prevent some images , music, an d other content fro m being copied, modified, or transferred. Make back-up copies or keep a written record of all important information stored in your device.
Find help In-device help Your device contains instructions to help to use the applications in your devi ce. To open help texts from the main menu, select Menu > Help and the application for which you want to read instructions. When an application is open , to access the help text for the current view, select Options > Help .
• Switch off the device, and remove the b attery. After about a minute, replace the battery, and switch on the device. • Restore the original factory settings. • Update your device software. If your issue remain s unsolved, con tact Nokia for repair options.
To view the status of previou s updates, select . Select Options and from the following: Update via PC — Update your device using a PC . This option replaces the Start update option when update s are only available us ing the Nokia Software Updater PC application.
SIM card. After three consecutiv e incorrect PIN code entries, the code is blocked, and you need the PUK code to unblock it. PIN2 code — This code (4 - 8 digits) is su pplied with some S IM cards, an d is required to access some functi ons in your de vice.
• If the signal strength of the cellular network varies much in your area, your device must scan for the available ne twork repeatedly. This increases the demand on battery power. • The backlight of the display increases the demand on battery power.
• Images and video clips in Gallery. Back up the files to a compatible co mputer. Get started Insert the SIM ca rd and battery Important: To prevent damage to the SIM card, always remove the battery before you insert or remove the card.
Safe removal. Always switch the device off and disconnect the charger before removing the battery. 3 Insert the SIM card. Make sure the contact area of the card is facing up. 4 Use the stylus to push the card in properly. It should align w ith the image in the battery compartment area.
If the SIM card is not properly in place, the d evice can only be used in the offline profile. 5 Replace the battery. 6 To replace the back cover, direct the to p locking catches toward thei r slots, and press down until the cover locks into place.
Insert the memory card Use only compatible microSD and microSDH C cards approved by Nokia for use with this device. Nokia uses approved indust ry standards for memory cards, but some brands may not be fully compatible with this device. Incompatible cards may damage the card and the device an d corrupt data stored o n the card.
3 Replace the back cover. Charge the b attery Your battery has been partially charged at the factory. If the device indicates a low charge, do the following: 1 Connect the charge r to a wall outlet.
3 When the device indicates a full charge, disconnect the charger from the device, then from the wall outlet. You do not need to charge the battery for a specific length of time, and you can use the device while it is chargi ng.

Some functions, such as ha ndwriting recognition, are desi gned to be used with a stylus. The pen stylus is loca ted in the back cover of the device. Important: Use only a stylus approved by Nokia for use with this device. Using any other stylus may invali date any warra nty applying to the dev ice and may damage the touch screen.
Switch the device off Press and hold the power key. Lock the keys and touch scree n To lock or unlock the touch screen and the keys, slide the lock switch on the side of the device. When the touch screen and ke ys are locked, the to uch sc reen is switched off and the keys are inactive.
Interactive disp lay elements To open the clock application, select the clock (1). To open the calendar, or to chang e the pr ofile, select the date or the profile name (2). To view or modify connectivity settings ( ), or to view missed events, select the top right corner (3).
Start using the cont acts bar To start using the contacts bar, an d to add your contacts to the home screen, select > Op tions > New contact , and follow the instructions. Change the hom e screen them e or shortcu ts Select Menu > Settings and Personal > Home screen .
If you tap a file or similar item once, it is not opened, it becomes highlighted. To see the options available for the item, select Options or, if avai lable, select an icon from a toolbar. Swipe to unlock the touch scree n To unlock the touch screen without a nswering a call, swipe from right to left. The ringing tone is muted au tomatically. To answer the call, press the call key , or to reject the call, press the end key. Swipe to answer a call To answer an incoming call, swipe from left to right.
To unlock the screen and keys, slide the lock switch. Media key To open appli cations such as the mu sic player or browser, select the media key ( ) to open the media bar, and select the applica tion. Tip: Hold your finger or the stylus on the icon to see the name o f the application.
Visit Ovi by Nokia With Ovi by Nokia, you can find new places and services, and stay in touch with your friends. You can do, for example, the followi ng: • Create a mail account • Plan trips and v.
To access the Phone set up a pplication later, select Menu > Applicatio ns > Phone setup . To transfer data to your device fr om a compatible Nokia device, select Switch . The available options may vary. Transfer content for the first time 1 Select Menu > Applic ations > Switch .
A clock alarm is active. All calls to the device are diverted to another number (network service). A compatible headset is connected to th e device. A compatible text phone is connected to the device. A data call is active (network service). A GPRS packet data connection is active (network service).
To view past communication ev ents with a contact, select the contact. To view the details of a communication event, select the event. To close the view, select Options > Exit . Antenna locations Your device may have internal and ext ernal antennas.
When you activate the offline profile, the connection to th e cellular network is closed. All radio frequency signals to and from the device to the cellular network are prevented. If you try to send messag es using the cellular network, they are placed in the Outbox folder to be sent later.
Volume and loudspeaker control Adjust the volume of a phon e call or sound clip Use the volume keys. The built-in loudspeaker allows you to sp eak and listen from a short distan ce without having to hold the device to your ear. Use the loudspeake r during a call Select Activate loudsp.
Select Menu > Settings and Phone > Sensor settings . Select from the following: Sensors — Activate the sensors. Turning control — Select Silencing call s and Snoozing alarms to mute calls and snooze alarms by turning your device so that the display faces down.
Warning: When you use the headset, your ability to hear outside sounds may be affected. Do not use the headset where it can endanger your safety. Do not connect products that create an ou tput signal as th is may cause damag e to the device. Do not connect any voltage source to the Nokia AV Connector.
Attach a wrist s trap Tip: You can use the stylus to catch the loop. Remove the SIM card 1 Remove the back cover and the battery, if inserted. 2 Place the tip of the stylus in the open ing in the battery co mpartment, an d push the SIM card sideways, to slide it ou t of the slot.
Remove t he memory card 1 If the device is switched on, before you remove the card, press the power key, and select Remove memory card . 2W h e n Remove memory card? Some applications will be closed. is displayed, sele ct Yes . 3W h e n Remove memory card and press 'OK' is displayed, remove the back cover.
Pressing the end key always ends a call, even if another appl ication is ac tive. To make a call from the contacts list, select Menu > Contact s . Go to the desired name. Or, se lect the search field, enter the first letters or characters of the name, and go to the name.
To send the tone, select OK . You can add DTMF tones to the phone nu mber or DTMF field in contact details. To end an active call and replace it by answerin g the waiting call, select Options > Replace . To end all your calls, select Options > End all cal ls .
If you do not want to answer a ca ll, press the end key. If you activate the Call divert > Voice calls > If bus y function in phone settings to divert calls, rejecting an incoming call also diverts the call. To unlock the touch screen, swipe Unloc k from right to left, and answer or reject the call.
Speed dial a p hone number To activate speed dialling, select Menu > Settings and Calling > Call > Speed dialling . 1 To assign a phone n umber to on e of the number keys, select Menu > Settings and Calling > Speed dialling . 2 Go to the key to which you want to a ssign the phon e number, and select Options > Assign .
Voice dialling Your device automatically creates a voice tag for the contacts. To lis ten to the synthesised voice tag, sele ct a contact and Option s > Voice tag details .
To view missed, received, and dialled calls, select Missed calls , Receiv ed calls or Dialled numbers . Tip: To open the dialled numbers list in the home scr een, press the call key. On the toolbar, select from the following: Call — Call the desired contact.
Call duration Select Menu > Log . To view the approximate duration of your last call, and dialle d and received calls, select Call durat ion . Monitor all communication even ts Select Menu > Log .
Write text You can enter letters, numbers, and special characters in several differ ent ways. The on-screen keyboards allow you to enter cha racters by tap ping them with your fingers or the stylus. Handwriting recognition allows you to write character s directly onto the screen using the stylus as a pen.
4 Shift and caps lock - To enter an upperc as e character when wr iting in lowerc ase, or vice versa, select the key before ente ring the character. To activate the caps lock, select the key twice. A line under the key indicates that the caps lock is activated.
To enter special characters, write them as you would normally, or select and the desired character. To delete characters or move the curs or back, swipe backwards (see Figure 1).

9 Shift - Changes the character case, activate s or deactiva tes predictive te xt input modes, and switches betwee n letter and number modes. Traditional text input Tap a number key (1-9) re peatedly until the de sired character appears. There are more characters a vailable for a number key th an are visible on th e key.
text input, and select OK . The word is added to the dictionary. When the dictionary is full, a new word re places the oldest added word. 4 Start writing the next word. Switch betw een text mod es To deactivate predi ctive text input for all editors in your de vice, select > Deactivate predic tion , or quickly double-tap # .
Contacts You can save a nd update contact in formation, such as ph one numbers, home addresses, or e-m ail addresses of your co ntac ts. You can add a personal ringing tone or a thumbnail image to a contact. You can als o create contact groups, which allow you to send text messages or e-mail to many recipients at the same time.
Before using voice tags, note the following: • Voice tags are not la nguage -dependent. They are depe ndent on the speaker's voice. • You must say the name exactly as you said it when you recorded it. • Voice tags are sensitive to background noise.
To define a ringing tone for a contact or a contact group, select the contact or contact group and Optio ns > Ringing tone , and a ringing tone. To define a call text for a con tact, select the contact and Options > Add call alert text . Tap the text field to ente r the call text, and select .
SIM contacts To set the na mes and numbe rs stored on th e SIM card to be shown on the contacts list, select Options > Sett ings > C ontacts to display > SIM memory . You c an add and edit SIM contacts , or call them. The numbers you save in the conta cts list may not be automatically saved to your SIM card.
New SIM contact — Enter the contact name and phone number to which calls a re allowed. Add from Contacts — Copy a contact from th e list of contacts to the fix ed dialling list. To send text messages to th e SIM contacts while the fixed dia lling service is a ctive, you need to add the text message centre number to the fixed dialling list.
Delivery reports — You can request the network to send you a delivery rep ort of the text messages and multim edia mess ages you have sent (network service). Write and send messages Select Menu > Messaging . Important: Exercise caution when open ing messages.
Select recipients or grou ps from the contacts list Select from the toolbar. Enter the numbe r or mail address manually Tap the To field. Enter the su bject of the mail o r multimedia message Enter it in the Subject field, . If th e Sub ject field is not visible, select Options > Message header fiel ds to change the fields that are visible.
In the Inbox folder, indi cates an unrea d text message, an unread multimedia message, an unread audio message, and data received through Bluet ooth connectivity. When you receive a message, an d 1 new message are displayed in the home screen. To open the mess age, select Show .
To save the data from the messag e, select Options and the corresponding option. Web service messages are notifications (f or example, news headlines) and ma y contain a text messag e or a link. For availabili ty and su bscription, contact your service provider.
Mailbox Define e-mail settings To use e-mail, you must have defined a valid internet access point (IAP) in the dev ice and have defined your e- mail settings correctly. You must have a separat e e-mail account. Follow the instructions given by your remote mailbox and internet service provider (ISP).
If you are offline, select Options > Connect to open a connection to th e remote mailbox. Important: Exercise caution when open ing messages. Messages m ay contain malicious software or otherwis e be harmful to your device or PC.
To delete the contents of an e-mail message from the device while still retaining it in the remote mailbox, select Options > Delet e > Phone only . The device mirrors the e-mail headers in the rem ote mailbox. A lthough y ou delete the message content, the e-mail header stay s in your device.
Mail for Exchange can be set up only if your compan y has Micro soft Excha nge Server. In addition, you r company's IT a dministra tor must have activated Mail for Exchange for your account .
Cell broadcast messages Select Menu > Messaging and Opti ons > Cell broadcast . Cell broadcast (network service) allows yo u to receive me ssages on v arious topics, such as weather or traffic conditions, from your service provider. For available topics and relevant topic numbers, conta ct your service provider.
Receive report — Select whether the network sends delivery reports on your messages (ne twork service). Message validity — Select how long the message centre resends your message if the first attempt fails (network service). If the message can not be sent within the validity period, the message is deleted from the messa ge centre.
Allow anonymous msgs. — Reject messages from a nonymous senders . Receive adve rts — Receive multimedia mess age advertisements (network service). Receive report s — Display t he status of sen t mess ages in the log (network service). Deny rep ort send ing — Prevent your device from sending delivery reports of received messages.
Ovi Contacts About Ovi C ontacts With Ovi Contacts, you can stay connected to your friends and family, and discover new friends in the Ovi community . You can share your loca tion with your friends, and follow what they are up to. You can also back up contacts from your device to Ovi.
Connect to the service Select Menu > Contacts , and open th e Ovi tab. Connect to Ovi Contacts Select Go onlin e and the connection method. Cancel the connection Select Options > Cancel connecting . A packet data connection may g enerate additional da ta transmission cha rges.
Your profile information is visible to your Ovi Contacts friends. Only the following profile details are displayed to other Ovi Contacts users, for exampl e during a search: first name and last name. T o change your privacy settings, access Ovi on your PC, and sign in to your No kia account.
Search for a friend Enter the name of the friend in the Search friends field, and sele ct the search icon. You cannot search for friends based on their mobile number or e-mail address. Browse the search re sults Select Next results or Previous results .
Chat with your friends Start a chat with a friend Select the friend. Send a chat message Enter the text in the message fi eld, and select the send icon. In the chat view, select Op tions and from the following: Send — Send the message . Add smiley — Insert a smiley.
Add, call, or copy ph one numbers from a chat Go to a phone number in a chat, and select Options and the appropri ate option. Ovi Contacts settings Select Options > Settings and from the following: Account — Access your account details, and defi ne your visibility to others in a search.
Auto-accept frien d invit. — Accept friend requests automatically without notification. Auto-accept voice msgs. — Allow voice message to be accepted aut omatically. Message tone — Select a tone for new messages. Friend online tone — Select the tone that soun ds when a friend comes online.
The Chat applic ation m ay be pre install ed on yo ur devi ce. If it is not , downlo ad and install it from Nokia's Ovi Store. Using network services and downloading cont ent to your device may result in data traffic costs. Start chatting Select Menu > Applications > Chat .
To change the layout of the main menu, select Menu . To change the look of the home screen, select Home scr. theme . To have a wallpaper image or a slide show of changing images as th e background in the home screen, select Wallpaper > Image or Slide show .
Music folde r Music player Music player supports file formats such as AAC, AAC+, eAA C+, MP3, and WMA. Music player does not necessarily support all featur es of a file format or all the variations of file formats. You can also use Music player to listen to podcas ts.
To go to the next item, select . To return to the begi nning of the item, select . To skip to the previous item, select again within 2 seconds after a song or podcast has started. To activate or deactivate ran dom play ( ), selec t Options > Shuffle p lay .
To adjust the volume, press the volume key. To modify the tone of the music playback, select Opt ions > Equaliser . To modify the balance and stereo image or to enhance th e bass, select Options > Settings . To return to the home screen and leave th e player playing in the background, press the end key.
To add songs, albums, artists, genres, and composers to a playlist from the different views of the music m enu, select an it em and Option s > Add to playlist > Saved playlist or New pla ylist . To remove a song from a playlist, select Options > Remove .
or Bluetooth connectivity. If you a r e using a USB data cable, select Mass storage as the connection mode. • To synchronise music with Windows Me dia Play er, connect a compatible USB data cable, and select Media transfer as the connection mode.
Downloading music may involve additional costs and the transmission of large amounts of data (network service). For information about data transmission charges, contact your network s ervice provider. Tip: It may be faster to download music to your PC first, and then use a compatible USB data cable to copy it to your device.
Connection settings To edit the connection settings, select Opt ions > Settings > Con nection and from the following: Default access point — Select the access point to define your connection to the internet. Search service URL — Define the podcast search service U RL to be used in searches.
Downloads After you have subscri bed to a podcast, fr om directories, search, or by entering a web address, you can manage, download , and play episodes in Podcasts.
To mute the radio, select . Select Options and from the following: Stations — View saved radio stations. Tune stations — Search for radio stations. Save — Save the radio station. Activate loudspe aker or Deactivate loud speaker — Turn the loudspeaker on or off.
Activate the camera To activate the camera, press t he capture key. Image capture Still image controls a nd indicators The still image viewfinder displays the following: 1 Mode indicator 2 Zoom slider. To activate or deactiva te the zoom slider, tap the screen.
The capture and recording sett ings return to the default sett ings after you close th e camera. Select from the following: — Select the scene. or — Switch between video and image mode. or — Show or hide the viewfinder grid (images only). — Activate the self-timer (ima ges only).
If you select a new scene, the capture se ttings are replaced by the selected scene. You can chang e the capture settin gs after selecting a scene if needed. Saving the captured image may take long er if you change the zoom, lighting, or colour settings.
— Upload the image to a compat ible online album. Delete — Delete the image. To use the image as wallpaper in the home screen, select Options > Use image > Set as wallpaper . To set the image as a default call image to be used for every ca ll situation, select Options > Use image > Set as call image .
To set the self-timer delay, select > , and the delay needed before the image is captured. To activate the self-timer, select Acti vate . The stopwatch icon on the screen blinks and the remaining time is di splayed when the timer is running. The camera captures the image after the se lected delay elapses.
2 To start recording, press the capture key or tap . A red record icon is displayed, and a tone sounds. 3 To pause recor ding at any time, select Pause . To resume, select Continue . If you pause recording and do not press an y key within one minute, the recording stops.
After recording a video clip After you record a video clip, select from th e following options (available only if you have selected Optio ns > Settings > Show last captured video > Yes ): Play — Play the video clip you just recorded. — Upload the image to a compat ible online album.
To open a file, select a file from the li st. Video clips and file s with the .ram file extension open and play in Video centre, and music and so und clips in Music player. View images and video s Select Menu > Gallery and Images & v ideos . The images, video clips, and folders are or dered by date and time.
Delete — Delete the selected image or video c lip. Organise images and videos Select Menu > Gallery and Images & v ideos > Options and from the following: Folder options — To move files to folders, select Move to folder . To create a new folder, select New folder .
1 To activate a service, open the Share onli ne application in your device, select a service and Options > Acti vate . 2 Allow the device to create a network connection. If you are prompted for an internet access point, select one from the list. 3 Sign in to your account as instruct ed on the service provider’s website.
Enter a title or description for the post, if available. To add tags to the post, sel ect Tags: . To enable the posting of location information cont ained in the file, select Location: . To send the post to the service, select Options > Uplo ad . Post files from Galle ry You can post your files from Galle ry to an online sharing service.
View and downlo ad video clips Connect to video services 1 Select Menu > Applic ations > Video centre . 2 To connect to a service to install video services, select Add new services and the desired video service from the service catalogue. View a video clip To browse the content of inst alled video services, select Video feeds .
Cancel download — Canc el a download. Preview — Preview a video clip. This option is available if supported by the service. Feed details — View information about a video clip. Refresh list — Refresh the list of video clips. Open link in browser — Open a link in the web browser.
Manage account — Manage your account option s fo r a particular feed, if available. To view the videos available in a feed, select a feed from the list. My videos My videos is a storage place for all videos. You can list downloaded videos and video clips recorded with the device camera in separate views.
Video centre settings In the Video centre main view, select Options > Settin gs and from the following: Video servic e selection — Select the video services that you want to appear in Video centre. You can also add, remove, edit , and view the details of a video service.
To browse the web, select Go to web address from the toolbar, and enter a web address. By default, the browser is in full screen mode. To exit full screen mode, double-tap the arrow icon in the bottom righ t corner.
Tip: To minimi se the browser w ithout exitin g the application or connection, press the end key once. Browser toolbar The browser toolbar helps yo u select freq uently used functions of the browser. From the toolbar, sele ct from the following: Expand tool bar — Expand the toolbar to access more toolbar functions.
To see an overview of the current we b page, open the toolbar, and select > . Web feeds and blog s Web feeds are XML files on web pages that ar e used to share, for example, the latest news headlines or blogs. Blogs or weblogs are web diaries. It is common to find web feeds on web, blog, and wiki pages.
Content search Select Menu > Internet > Web . To search for text within the current web page, select Options > Find keyword . To go to the next match, from the toolba r, select Find next . To go to the previous match, from the toolbar, select Find previous .
Go to web address — Enter a new web address. Delete — Delete a bookmark. Empty the cache The information or services you have acce ssed are stored in the cache memory of the device. A cache is a memory location th at is used to store data te mporarily.

In the active data connections vi ew, you can see open data conne ctions: data calls packet data connections To end a connection, select Option s > Disconnect .

Bluetooth connectivity About Bluetooth connectivity With Bluetooth connecti vity, you can ma ke a wireless connection to other compatible devices, such as mobile devi ces, comput ers, headsets, and car kits.
Settings Select Menu > Settings and Connectivit y > Bluetooth . When you open the application for the fi rst time, you are asked to define a name for your device. You can chang e the name later. Select from the following: Bluetooth — Turn Bluetooth connectivity on or off.
1 Open the application where the item you want to send is stored. 2 Tap an item, and s elect Options > Send > Via Bluetooth . Devices with Bluetooth wireless technology that are w ithin range are displayed. Device icons are as follows: compute r phone audio or video device other de vice To interrupt the search, select Stop .
2 Select the device, and enter the passcode. The same passcode must be entere d on the other device, as well. 3 Some audio accessories connect automati cally to your device after pa iring. Otherwise, to connect to an access ory, select Options > Connect to audio device .
Tap a device you want to block, if it is not already highligh ted, and select Options > Block . To unblock a device, open the Blocked devices tab, tap a device, if it is not already highlighted, and select Op tions > Delete . To unblock all blocked devices, select Options > Delete all .
will not make any calls while in this mode, except to the emergency numbers programmed into your device. To make ca lls from your device, you must leave the remote SIM mode. If the device is lock ed, enter the lock code to unlock it. To leave the remote SIM mode, press the power key, and select Exit remote SIM mode .
Mass storage — Transfer data between your device and a compatible PC. Image transfer — Print images with a compatible printer. Media transfer — Synchronise music with Nokia Ovi Player or Windows Media Player.
